you might want to check amtrak too, springfield - rochester works but gets you there at 11 on friday night, how far away is the gig from the train station? also, albany - rochester, you can do that in plenty of time and it's $76 r/t, it takes about 4 hours from there

No one's mentioned this yet but that Rochester weekend also happens to have a Monday Holiday attached to it. MLK/Civil Rights Day is the 19th. Makes things a bit easier travel wise and recovery wise for us 5 to 7 hour travelers.

mapquest says it's 326 miles and 5 hours and 20 minutes, add 70 minutes onto that with starchy & smiles accompanying me and who will need to make: 1. a stop for vitamin water, 2. a stop for gas, 3. 3 stops on the way there.......is it worth the trouble and money? i think so, i always loved the vibe in that place and i totally dig the syracuse/rochester creekers, especially on their home court

i remember one of those rachacha weekends, walking back to the hotel with cookie monster & krispie jack, we saw a car going in reverse like 30 miles an hour and it side swipes this dude of color, the white chick jumps out of the car and says to us, "he's faking i didn't hit him", meanwhile the guy is in some serious pain and his hip bone is ajar from the rest of his body and he's limping away screaming in agony and the chick reinterates how she didn't hit him, then he jumps into a snow bank and she starts kicking him, then she looks at us and says it's her boyfriend and he cheated on her, then, amazingly a cop drives by and misses the entire scene, i wanted to call a cop, but cooler heads prevailed, i was told, do you really want to sit in a cop car while you're out of your mind and holding and i said no, so then some more heads appeared on the scene and someone called the cops, just the same, i noted her license plate, then when i got back to the room i wrote it down and on monday i made an anonymous phone call from a pay phone to the police department and sescribed what had happened and gave the license plate #, i did not want to see that guy maimed for the rest of his life while the chick got away with it. civic minded? yeah, somewhat, to the extent that i didn't get in trouble either

if you look at satellite view on Google maps, I believe the entrance to Clarion is on East Main. The diff in distance is not much, go with the hotel you wanna stay at...been a long time since been to either, but I think the Plaza is the nicer hotel.

weird.. if you go to their website.. Clarion publishing $110 a night, Plaza $119, but Plaza has "special" rates of $99. Plaza will be nicer and a bit closer to Water St. Unless there is an event at the Blue Cross Arena those nights, these hotels WILL have PLENTY of vacancies, so negotiating with them for cheaper rates can be done.

Clarion will be cheaper, but a touch farther... not too far to walk, but well it will be January so likely damn cold.... but then again you could stay anywhere thats a lot cheaper and pay for a cab if need be. You can get pretty much anywhere in the greater Rochester area for about $35. Put a few people in a cab and for $10-$15 each you have a safe/warm ride home, so you partake all you want. Im definitely getting older and more responsible in that area. dont be that guy going the wrong way that Bosco saw.

PZ...the downtown Clarion is a reasonable walking distance along the river. That's where the band stays. The WaterStreet website has a link to it on it's home page with a WaterStreet discount. waterstreetmusic.com If you're looking for cheaper, let me know and I'll dig for some of the smaller places. Prolly nothing else less expensive that's decent downtown though. Carl and Shakey have stayed at the Microtel by the airport. 10 minute drive tops. Email me if you'd like a REALLY cheap place to stay that's a 15 minute drive tops.

Holy "while I was working" chatter Batman!! Eh...ya win some and ya lose some. I'm resolved to missing Saturday night Creek. There's an outside chance things could still change but I'm not pushing it because I do enjoy the bands I play in. I told the folks to take my personal wishes out of it as I'll stand by my committment. If they agree that the crowd will suffer and want to change it for that reason....then so be it. Anyways, my own NYE gig is still listed as "venue TBA" and our booking agent asked me last Saturday if we'd be disappointed if we didn't throw something together for NYE. I said "absolutely not" knowing that I could hit Mill Street. So...that could almost kinda sorta make up for the lost Rochester show. But I know how these things go. I'll miss the hottest Saturday night Rochester show in years. Murphy's Law ya know. But thanks for the suggestions and the encouragement folks. There's some real true blue friends and acquaintances here. As far as our band opening? Little chance of that happening (this project doesn't really have the contacts) although I think we'd be a great, and very different opener. My real concern now is that the Family Dawgz (another band I'm in) will get an opening slot (which is not at all unlikely) and that I'll have to miss that as well. That would REALLY add insult to injury. No worry for them though. There's enough Dead bassists in the area to cover that position no problem. At any rate...I know I'll be seeing bunches of you one way or another at one show or another so.....smell ya later!!

Is really okay now a days to make fun of the name Coco Crisp. "light-hearted"???? F*#K YOU !!!!! Just kidding dude. BUT, I do have to disagree with you on the "taking up space here" part. The discussion/debate derives directly from an upcoming Creek gig and therefore has every right, if not more, than some of the other posts here in this forum. It's not like were talking about politics or sports or other non-Creek related stuff. The discussion has bearing on a Creek gig. If Bosco's gig doesn't get rescheduled than he will miss the show. That's one less person in the venue. One less person that I consider to be important to Rochester Creek gigs. I have seen Bosco make huge saves at Creek shows before. One time, the band was going into a Rider tune and the jam was sounding like it was going to go into Only One (Carl can confirm this for all you non-believers)Bosco went up to the front of the stage and put his hands up to his head like devil horns and the jam went into Devil's Heart. It saved the set. Everyone was in agreement that Bosco helped save the set in terms of setlist quality and energy. That's the kind of person you want at a show. Plus, anyone going to see his band might go see Creek instead if his show gets rescheduled. Anway..... this "debate" belongs here waaaaaaay more than half of the other things that get posted here.

The one drawback of playing music in a steadily gigging project is not getting to see your favorite bands..but it makes it even more special when you do! I didn't get to see Creek for almost a full year a couple years back just because of scheduling issues. It sucks, but it's the price you pay- there are only so many Friday and Saturday nights in a month or a year.

You're going about it all wrong Bosco...... don't deal with the people in the band, call the venue directly. Explain the competition factor and how you won't pull people in. It would be in the venue's best interest (and your's but you don't have to mention that) to reschedule the gig. Then call Waterstreet about opening for Creek. Me on the other hand......... I might be in Cleveland for a hockey tournament. Not really sure I can call the venue for that problem.

I emailed the whole band suggesting we move the date. I haven't heard back yet. I'm the only real Creek fan in the band so I think they'll probably say tough luck. As much as I hate to in this case, I have to honor my committment. And it sucks because I've been yammering as loud as anyone for Creek to return to 2 nights in Rochester. It'll be weird to go out and get all set up, then drop my wife off at WaterStreet, then do the gig and break down, and then go pick my wife up from WaterStreet.

since i live next to Southbridge, all these places you are naming are more like Motels - Motor Inns.. most will have rooms since there is nothing going on. There is more hotel like places with indoor pools etc in Sturbridge

If any of you cats from Western MA or central CT are stuck on the indo' side tonite I see that WGBY is doing a SRV dealie, which includes clips from Montreaux '82...I 'memba seeing him @ the Kool Jazz fest in '85 in Saratoga an' all the 'purists' yelling boo hiss...I knew I was watching something great even tho i wuz just a kid...of course just 3 nites earlier, at the same venue I saw the GD for the 1st time...whatta week!

I finally heard the rockin' trio with Scott and Bill. Excellent. Must be nice to work with top quality sound boards, speakers,ect. Scott good cadence on your part like I really never heard before. I was not aware that Hunter is writing again. I had written boasting that I was that type of writer, in reality the closest I ever came was when "Jamo" from the Bros. heard my tunes at a open mike he told me to have my stuff copywritten and give him a call. I never did that and I am no Robert Hunter. Did you do the music to "Fly Away All"? Anyway once again many fortunes to come for you. I will say adding Mark to that trio would be the deal. Shit you two and the Dead would really hit the mark, nevertheless something good no doubt is truly forming in this universe. Would like to me old Hunter someday.
