Tim O’Brien gave a very nice acoustic solo performance last night at the Iron Horse. The first set was 43 minutes long and the 2nd was 58 minutes. He played 2 acoustic guitars, a fiddle and a banjo. He mixed in some jokes and some stories and had the rapt attention of the approx. 100 people who attended.

I just would like to thank everyone for coming out Sunday night. It was great to have all my friends there. I had a great time! I can't express how much I love my Max Creek family. Thank you all so much for your support. Josh, Amy, Wilson, Sherri and JCMC helped so much putting this together. So many others came and showed their love and support. Thank you all so much and I'll see you tonight. Derek, thank you and your wife for the butter. It is really good! Also, Kel, I got your card and I appreciate your support and good vibes! Alright, I'll pass out hugs later. Love y'all.

Bet you didn't know that John McCain is really a Muslim. He was born in Iraq, and has trained extensively to become a terrorist. His middle name is really bin Laden. He is really black, but covers himself in white paint every day. He has seven wives, and 38 children. He had to leave Iraq after sexually molesting his youngest son, 5. When he becomes President he plans to celebrate by nuking Israel, and selling our entire submarine force to Iran. :)

well wilkes actually won 4 championships (in the history of basketball, if you're not a celtic, or magic, or kareem puff or his airness, you can prolly count on 1 hand how many players won 4 championships) and averaged 17.7 points and 6.2 rebounds for his career, averging over 20 points a game 3 straight years once and was a 4 time all star and all defensive team twice..........guess he didn't just ride the great jabbers coattails the way sideshow bob road the great gar's coattails

hey x, whaddaya think of wes montgomery? he could play a little, huh? remember the basketball player keith wilkes? he played at UCLA in their dynasty with either walton or jabbar (or both?) and then in the NBA he won a title in milwaukee with kareem puff and another in LA (i think?), well point being, his nickname was silk, cuz he was smooth as silk on the basketball court, well that should be wes montgomery's nickname, cuz as a guitar player he's as silky smooth as they come

I have posted my opinion on Obama, and so forth mainly because I think it's that important, it goes beyond politics. I'm trying to shed a little light, not to control. Otherwise,or most of the time I concerned with the bueaty in things and go down the road and not to have to give a damb.

Many large chain pickerel reside in Bigelow Hollow. Strikes may be induced using a short retrieve and stop technique with surface lures, or by drifting live bait. Fall can be an excellent time to fish there following an extended period of high barometric pressure. Advise caution when weather is inclement, as access / egress can be treacherous.

Here's a pull from his note back to me asking if he was familiar with Scott before the KBM gig. "...I'm pretty new to Murawski, heard him over the summer with Mike Gordon's new band and was really impressed but was completely blown away at MagFest. He's amazing, and the level of communication, intuition, and musicianship on stage that night was like nothing I've ever heard in this kind of music. I walked out of there amazed and inspired...."

Voter registration fraud is small potatoes next to the larger issue of redistricting and disenranchisement. While Tom DeLay might stand as a Jack Abramoff crony and scumbag, the republicans shall be forever indebted to him, since he sigle-handedly turned Texas into the "Bacon-Strip" state- long slivery congressional districts deigned to favor a republican majority. And what the state of Florida did in 2000 should be considered criminal- if your name came anywhere CLOSE to a felon's name in a national database your vote was disallowed- OBVIOUSLY done in a fashion to screw minorities. Ironically, probably nobody named Washington, Jefferson or Lincoln got their vote counted...

I will preface what I am about to write by saying I am a democrat and have never voted for a replublican presidential candidate in my life. That being said there have been only three republican presidents since the 1930s ( Regan, Bush 1, and ugh Bush 2) if they are so intent on stealing the elections you think they might have had a bit more success than that! I do believe technology can malfunction or people can use it improperly casting an unintended vote. There should absolutely be some way of auditing the results so we do not end up arguing over them. Shakespear said "the truth often lies in the middle", I suspect it is in the middle where we might find the blame for this mess as well. In the end it is the republican polocies that have cost them the house and the senate on tuesday of next week it will likely cost them the WH. Give em enough rope and they will hang themselves, I hope the democrats learn from their rivals and govern from the middle or our stay will be short. On wednesday we will all be back to work paying for the mistakes they have ALL made. Spacey, I agree what we all need now is creek sweet creek.... and a break from these ugly realities. see ya all tomorrow!! Peace, Dale

You're not a bad guy Roch. You just have to consider the mindset of many of the folks that post here. It's generally much different than yours. It is rarely open to reasoned arguments from the other side and often lashes back with offenses. Ed, rent "And So Goes the Nation," a documentary about the 2004 election that focuses on Ohio. I wondered the same thing you did, until I saw that movie. There was some vote suppression, sure, but that election was not stolen. The Republicans ran a much more effective campaign (the kind Obama's running this year) and that's all.

On the voter-fraud thing -- seriously, do a little mainstream research. There is virtually no evidence of voter fraud in this country anymore. (JFK in Chicago was nearly 50 years ago, folks.) The Acorn incident -- which is about tainted registration forms that Acorn itself found and brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities -- is the closest thing, and like PZen said, it's not voter fraud, it's just some bad registration forms that didn't result in anyone getting falsely registered. There is evidence that restricting access to the polls prevents legally registered voters from casting ballots. That's really all there is to say about the issue.

it wouldn't surprise me at all. Testing has shown that electronic machines can have vote totals tampered with remotely, and they conveniently don't produce any paper trail. The owner of the diebold corporation that makes the electronic machines guaranteed a victory for bush in ohio before the election. connect the dots... no way to prove it of course since they designed the systems to not be able to be audited.

Just a comment on ACORN. I heard a story on NPR where an independent non-partisan group did a study of registration fraud and voter discrimination over the past 20 years. There was VERY LITTLE instance of a fake reistration card turning into a vote(ie. Mickey Mouse is registered to vote, but never goes to the voting booth) So that does not inerfere with the election. On the other hand, there was a high instance of people who were legal registered to vote being turned away at the polls for unfair reasons (ie. Minorities asked to show more I.D. than others.) In the 70's, republicans were actually making "certain demoraphics" recite portions of the constitution or they could not vote. Maybe such blatent discimination is not as prevelant today, or maybe they just found better ways of disguising it. (ie. having the media focus all it's attention on ACORN and ignore the more widespread epidemic of voter discrimination)

On the other hand, it has been shown beyond the shadow of a doubt that voting machines can be rigged to change votes. I'm far more worried about the wealthy people who run voting machine manufacturers rigging their machines to favor those candidates who cater to the wealthy.

What's that all about? you can go to a place where it's legal on vacation, then get pulled over a few weeks later by someone that feels like giving you a hard time and they get to fine you for not even doing anything illegal. They should just cut the charade and legalize it with no fines at all.

My first Creek show was July '91(21st b-day) I had just gotten into Grateful Dead and convinced my friend Bill to go. What I remember was they really did sound that much like the dead. The songs I remember were "Twist And Shout", and "Just A Rose". A couple years later I met Mark in Collinsville, I asked what he did for a living he responded "I play organ at churches". So for two weeks I talked to him got to know him a little and one night at the the bar a kid said to me "hey that's the keyboard guy from Max Creek." I identified Mark to himself and went to Woodys and the rest was my future. Mark is humble and our friendship was based not on "to be impressive"...... Anyway 6 days to the landslide victory for Obama, if he does loose the republicans will be caught cheating. Obama will not only win he will wine and dine the world to the end of time.e.g., sitting down with Iran and swaying them his way, others countries too. By spring the world will more than love him.

How about the cost of getting a college education? We all know that the best jobs go to those with a college degree. As the cost of college rises, only the wealthy can afford it. Thus the best jobs go to the children of the wealthy, and we are left with a permanent aristocracy. "Land of the Free" my ass!

Carl, That looks like it! By the end my head was spinnin' and all I remember was that evil sounding "Why Don't You Ever Call Me!" It seemed a little out of place because I wasn't used to the x style yet. Freaked me out a little. Then those wierd things they have on the roofs in providence that make noise to scare birds away had my heart racing on the way back to the car. CRAZY NIGHT!!! And they only got crazier from there. Thank you Max Creek! You deffinately changed my life for the better. I love you all!

Everybody's talking about history and stuff - I have a significant thing happening for me this coming Sunday: I'm going to do an opening set for one of my major folk/blues infulences - Odetta - at the church in Simsbury at 3 in the afternoon - on the grand piano. This woman has seen it all - from marching with Rosa Parks and MLK Jr. and playing with Leadbelly and Seeger and all the old folkies, up to appearing with quite a few notables at the present. She is he real deal - A kind, conscious, cosmic lady with a (still) incredible deep resonant voice that Janis used to try to copy, and a repertoire that made Dylan into an acoustic player at the beginning. It will definitely be one of the geat honors of my life to appear with this Woman. If you're interested - First Church of Christ, Simsbury, on Hopmeadow Street - starts right at 3 in the afternoon. 20 bucks - students at 15.

first Creek show was more than likely at The Cell Block 11 1981 or 82 what a wild place! The partying that went on inside the bar was unreal, my friend tipped the waittress with lines off the table! The band actually had a large fold out photograph of the scene outside CB 11 inside the album they recorded there(drink the stars I believe)and the friends I went with are clearly pictured in it, not me tho...there were so many good times. I have made and maintained some great friendships through my travels to seek the sound, and I have MC to thank for them. Whether we know each other or not we all share the common bond of the music, the celebration, and the feeling that we are family I see most of you more than my own sister, where else do you find that? LRR I remenber the Agora as well, saw the boys open for Garcia there, and it is was there that I hooked up with my wife 25 years ago at a Creek show. Max Creek is for most of us not just a band but a centerpiece for our lifestlye. I can accept and understand winding down, I certainly have, but I hope there is always the occasional creek show to bring us all back together to celebrate life with some of the best music and people anywhere on earth. Thanks John, Mark, Scott, and all the drummers I cannot imagine the past thirty years without you!

first show, Lupo's November of '95. My friend said "Hey my sister told me about this realy cool band..." So we packed about 8 people into my 1990 ford areostar minivan (complete w/ T.V and VCR) and drove up to providence. I was 16. It was only my 3rd day with a lisence. We stopped on Thayer st. first since we were about 2 hours early. I locked my keys in the car and had to borrow a broom from the Avon to stick through the sliding window and hit the unlock button. Finnaly made it to the show (didn't even miss one song!) I met a 2 kids, one named Justin, AKA Dirt, and one named John, AKA Scratch (anyone remember them?)They gave me some little pieces of paper with cool artwork on them. Then the music started. All I remember is "Can't Always Get What You Want" and encore was "Sugar Mags". And this crazy guitar player screaming like satan about not getting phone calls.

Yup, Dead Guy on the kit at Drums Around the World, as Creek had no drummer at the time. Two days earlier, there had been a Living Room show with DG on drums, but when the second set started, some kid from Winsted took over for a couple tunes. Creek had been auditioning drummers for a couple months by that point, but we'd never seen this Scott Allshouse guy before.

Yes, Drums Around the World was one of the worst Creek shows I've seen, but it wasn't all Creek's fault. Before them, there was a mariachi band that WOULD NOT leave the stage when their time was up, and took up a good chunk of Creek's set. There were no stage lights and Creek played a portion of the show as best they could in the dark.

My first Creek sighting / listening was the Pharm Party encore 96. Showed up after visiting Baldwinsville, getting drunk at some bar called Old City?? and then jumping in a van with a bunch of people I just met to go to a party on a farm. I had a conversation recently with Carl about my bizarre brief memory of the show and he told me the stage was in a different spot there. That pieced together a bit of the puzzle that was that night, I do recall seeing a mic stand there which lead to my first taping on 10-3-97 at the Waterstreet Music Hall.

First time consciously attending a Creek show , spring '88 at Agora . Looking for recent funny pages . Didn't go in first 2 times . 2nd time tried to get in , but even with an all ages show they wanted ID I didn't have . 3rd time dropped while there and 'was guided inside by the energies ' ... and had a passport and library card to ID myself with . First Dead show just prior . Creekers taught me what the dancing was all about , which had overloaded my senses at my first Dead show . That and chewing on the corner of a sheet..:O

Carl- I never thought how people might find it odd to see people sitting on the ground or floor indian style at a show. That made me chuckle. It was just such a natural thing to do. I rocked out at the Brewfest in 93 right in front of the stacks. Spent a lot of time there, thankful I can still hear. First show was at the Agora in 86. Took me a few years before I really was able to let go and lose myself in the music. One thing I realized is that no matter how freaky you are at a creek show there are always other freaks there with you, losing it. Thanks to creek for all the joy. Making the 6 hour road trip for Friday and can't wait!!!

...So even if TB comes back from the dead and wins the series, you don't win $$$ if you bet on them. I saw a guy on the news before the series started who placed a pre-season wager in LV for the Rays to win it all, and would have stood to win $25000 if they made good. Imagine how pist HE would be...
