Can't blame the subprime mess all on Bush, much as I'd like to... The deregulatory fervor goes back to Reagan, and all that talk about "Government isn't the solution; government is the problem." I'm sure there were aspects of the old regulatory structure that were excessive, but come on! You can't strike all the rules and just hope people play fair. Anyway, that started under Reagan, continued under H.W. Bush and Clinton (see, I'm bipartisan here) and it's gotten more extreme under W. Bush. So I think this crisis has been building for a long time, and has the same kind of roots the S&L crisis of the 80s had. What can we do to solve it? Regulate again -- make it illegal for financial firms to sell questionable instruments, and prosecute them for fraud when they do... Sure, that may send SK to jail, but it's a small price to pay, right?

Depression : According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

The Dow is up over 200 points this morning... yesterday, stocks fell badly after the bell... I thought then it was a deliberate attempt by some traders to lower the Dow, in order to force their way on getting that Government bailout. This rise today only confirms my suspicions. This bailout is not needed, and is just another example of Bush declaring an emergency just so he can throw taxpayers' money at the super-rich.

to be honest I heard someone else mention part of that and didn't bother thinking past the concept, which had merit...so now what about the part about brokers and investors being forced to replace arm mortgages with lowered fixed ones?...the bummer about the stock market is that people benefit from the losses of others. So there is zero motivation to change the way of things. But thanks for keeping me on my toes. I've leave the math to pest, the trigonometry wiz.

If the govt took the 700 B and dispersed it among the 200 B or so adults in the US 18 and over, we'd all receive around 400,000.00 , paying off our debts and mortgages. We'd then have our free and clear income to live on...even if that money was taxed at 30 percent giving the govt 25 B back, we'd still be doing pretty good. Even forcing the subprime hoods to drop everyones mortgages down to 7 percent from the 13-18 percent currently gouged would free folks to spend again and cover their mortgage. Then again I'm thinking about the citizens. Crazy me .

I like to think I was a pretty good live sound engineer for a longgggg time...and I understood about a third of what you just posted. I'm not even sure how many people would really hear the difference - if we had a good live show on dat, or even reel to reel, all you needed was a UREI compressor! At least you'd be able to listen to the damn thing without scratching your head for three days!

The higher quality dv recordings have a much higher bit ceiling, so they can handle the larger quantity of data. When it is restricted to 44.1khz , it can no longer handle the data that the file contained, since the ceiling has been lowered below the peak.. For real audiophile quality, dvd audio is the way to go. But no one wants it. Like I have one source left to use that is an aud source , but it was recorded in HD , so the audio is even higher than my 48000, and he was in the pit recording, so his track is just bursting with dynamic range. But I cannot use it for the archive files....I am going to put up my videos up for those 3-4 songs, so you get what I got, and just patch the archive seed with the board , since that's all that I am left with. I won't get the archive patch done till the end of the week , so if anyone has a problem with allowing me to use the sbd for this , stop me before I begin working on it please. If not for DSBD, I wouldn't even ask , but there it is.

First off the bill should not have passed. But lets not blame the Dem's Pelosi vowed to get at least 50% support and the GOP did the same but just couldn't deliver. This bill would have lined the pockets of the same lobbyists who created this mess. Why are we bailing out these fools. Will this bill change anything for the average person? No. Will anyone who is losing their home now be protected? No. Bail out the billionaires bill. Remember the Republicans could has delayed the vote to muster up the votes they said they would gather if they wanted to, but they chose to let the vote go on. All the GOP needed was 77 votes out of 199. So spare me. I give you credit I expected this to be Hillary's fault.

The GOP is blaming Pelosi's speech that turned the Republican votes that the Republican leadership vowed to deliver. So now the Republicans all listen to Pelosi? Man if that's the best excuse you got I guess use it. Like the GOP is claiming this is all Clinton's fault. The man must be the most powerful person in the world since everything bad during his term was his fault and everything in the 7.5 years since he left office has also his fault. Face it McCain spent the last 20 years stripping regulations from the banking industry and now he is the champion of the lil person. Not saying Obama isn't cut from the same cloth he has just less time to have been corrupted. John Edwards gets a $500 haircut it's front page news McCain spends 5k on a makeup artist to attempt to make him look under 1000 and no one says a thing.

there is plenty of blame for our situation to go around. It is ridiculous to pick the side you are not on and blame em. Comment on a previous post... we would not just be handing money over, we would be picking up an ownership position in these debts at a discount. Many will fail, for which we will get nothing.. some will be good, for which we will be paid a premium for what we paid. We will get something back - maybe a little, maybe more, maybe all of it - how much we don't know. Something will have to pass this week as some liquidity must be provided to the credit markets or we are in for some real, real pain.

The vote tally I saw showed 40% of House dems voted no. Hardly overwhelming. About 2/3rds of republicans voted no. It failed by 13 votes so it's hard to pin the outcome on republicans. If you want to say that the white house and house republicans are responsible for the mess in the first place.....you probably have more than one leg to stand on but I took the comment in the context that it was republicans fault the bill failed. Were it not an election year, I'm sure enough votes could've been squeezed from both parties for it to pass. But then I've been known to be a bit clueless about politics...and by a bit, I mean completely.

right on wavy...if the dems could pass bills without republican help, they would have a lot more bills passed! also the majority of reps voted against the bill. personally i think it's great. it's only a quick fix and not what is really needed -- therefore, the quadrillion dollar bill the taxpayers have to foot, will be good only for a little while. meanwhile, the "free market" free-for-all the white house has wholly embraced for the last 8 years...are we hearing a different tune now, or just the last gasp of the lamest-duck to ever inhabit the office?

The last 55 minutes of the show is peaked out.I'm surprised at how well some of it plays on the streamer. I tried to use the disc I gave Ed to reload the set to work with, and I lost Truckin and US Blues completely in the extraction.I'm going to have to redo the entire second set from scratch , patches and all...My program Audition allows me to manually pull down peaks in the waveform, but realistically, there is no joy in editing 3300 seconds of wav by hand....miles to go before I rest....

i've had good luck with a plugin for sound forge called clipped peak restoration. it can take away some of the harshness and distortion of clipping. sometimes i'll use it if there's a drum hit that peaks out. if it's too far gone though it might not help that much.

Yea..... I really had a blast last night (as Carl mentioned). During the 1st set Carl, HB, myself, Kelly, AMS, MC, FW, and a bunch of other "front row" people were holding down the fort right up front in the first 4 rows.............. WHICH WAS 25 YARDS AWAY FROM THE STAGE!!!! It was beyond weird. Picture a big slab of cement on posts over a small pond of water.... then there is like 20 yards of water..... then a 15 foot stone wall.... at the top of the wall is another big slab of cement (which would make a fine stage itself) with a wooden stage on it. Oh yea..... and it's in the middle of no where. Regardless of the weirdness and remoteness, I had a great time. The band ripped the 2nd set and the 1st set was no slouch either. The Wartime sent me over the edge into "ToMmY dancing mode" as HB & Carl described it. I gotta give it up to HB for driving.... thanks again man. Great to see everyone last night and thanks Max Creek for a great show.

nah,I think I have a handle on it....just had alot of probs..2 hard drives failed..my pc shutting off without notice...some track files were corrupted...I was doing my file cleanup in 48000..not my forte , but I'll finish what I've started. The patch work was easy. Fixing digital hot spots, not so easy. There are some great Creek shows that will never see the light of day on account of it. One year at the Hartford Brewfest , Rob led Creek in a debut one-offer of Big Bottom from Spinal Tap. There were no aud tapers, and the sbd was tweaked out. I'm working on it now..I really want to maintain as much audience as possible. I only used dsbd for the intros to each set that no one captured on aud. I do have a second source to use for the segment of songs, but it is the weaker aud. If I go with the weaker aud, and boost the levels for John etc, this will not make it out for this week.

B, I don't thinks any problems before Evening..thanks a lot for the show, really enjoyed myself...great atmosphere! I've emailed DBSD twice about the board but no answer, and still not there..I think the Evening ,truckin and US blues should be patched in from the DBSD....maybe do a charlie miller on it and just remove the bad spots...?

Pickle, is the streaming box missing still? I announce the show immediately, before the streaming formats are derived. You should be able to download it by now. (if you try the new format player, it makes the songs available as it derives them, instead of all-at-once after it finishes the whole show)

Mass. Conn., and Rhode Island seem have such good vibes!, where as places like this weekend don't have that special feeling. For the first time in my life i was disapointed by MAX CREEK. Oh yeh some ass dosed me! My dose'n days are over, well at least i thought so. They did play emerald eyes, which kicked some tail. They usually play places w/better vibe, more class. I love Max Creek and I am by no means blaming them for he soggy, tripped out weekend. Love and Respect, no harm done.

the venue itself was super bizzare. The best way to describe it is to imagine a moat (complete with a fire-breathing dragon) seperating the stage from the audience, who stood on some sort of cement viewing platform. The "Deliverance" jokes were at times strangely fitting...

to those who had trouble at lupo's and i'm sure there are more of you than have written in. Why dont you press charges? You should. I got thrown (and I mean thrown) out of that shithole like 6 or 7 years ago and really screwed up my knee (after freefalling 4 feet off the steps because some little steroid freak jacked me in the back because i complained about being thrown out) You people know who you are (the ones who have been ripped out of the bathroom stall or had some fuckhead jump up in the stall next to you to peak and see what you're doing while sitting on the shitter) Those security guards need to be jumped just like they do to others. Or at least some formal complaints need to be made. If nobody says something then they will continue to prey on the weak. I have not been back since being jumped but beating the snot out of one of those punks is always in the back of my mind. I'll get mine, you should get yours! file a complaint!

The Lupo's staff were terrible last nite. The put Kevin in a choke hold and forced him out of the bar last nite. Becuase he got sick and not because he was drinking to much and belingerant. The staff guy lied and told me kevin swung at him and that was why he needed to go. Kevin is a quiet and good hearted man and would never do that and .didn't. He is sick and they make it seem like he was out of hand and drunk. Bull shit and I tried to reason with them and explain but that just ended up getting me kicked out as well. I just thought you should know how they treated your fans and how inappropriate they were. We should have pressed charges

I was not there last night but I love that setlist. I always judge a show by what tunes X decides to play (sue me!). I am old school when it comes to his selections. One of my favorite shows EVER was a nondescript show at the Wheelhouse a couple years back in the Summer when X did Trippin, Windows and Double Dare in the same night ( I dont recall the date). To me, that was sick, but many people thought the next night was "better." To have X do JAR!!, Outside of Home!!!, Leaves!!!! and Cities! in the same set is, for me, what it is all about. Has X ever did Outside of Home and Leaves in the same set????????? Wow!! That is it!! Plain and simple- awesome selections - I love a rocker as much as the next guy, but I would take those 2 tunes anyday. I cant wait to hear the stream!!!!!!!!!!!

What an interesting show last night! The setlist wasn't the best from my viewpoint, but there were enough upbeat tunes to keep me happy. x's playing was different, I thought... perhaps it's evolving further as he plays with other people. More spacey dissonance than usual. While I don't like either Leaves or Outside of Home, it was obvious to me that both performances were special. The Just a Rose was awesome, even though he didn't end it. The show was more x-centered than usual, not as much jamming from MMMMark as I like. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks, guys!

I hate doing a fade-out/fade-in when the band plays for a long time without stopping, like last night. It destroys what is already there, just so people can have nice-sounding cd's. I'd almost like to keep it as-is, and tell the cd people to live with it, or do a fade-out/fade-in themselves. But then I tend to favor the listeners anyway.

And as far as it being rare....it's not that very few were pressed, it's the fact that most of them aren't in circulation. The majority are probably long forgotten in basements and attics all over the Farmington Valley.

The ebay seller with that first album is a little optimistic. He is asking $1200 for Buy It Now. A realistic price would be 10-20% of that figure.

Just got this in my email: PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the Republicans knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes. I know -- it's only a poll. But it will be reported on PBS, picked up by mainstream media and can influence undecided voters in swing states. Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds. 1) Click on link and vote yourself. Here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html - 2) Then send this to every single voter you know, irregardless of party affiliation, and urge them to vote and pass it on... The last thing we need is PBS having to say our viewers think Sarah Palin is qualified unless we ALL vote... Thanks.

That's the only show tommy remembers him sitting in, so it's likely. The DAT deck is doing fine... I've been doing Old Folk's cassettes recently to finish up the tray of 100 cassettes he gave me - I'm uploading a show now, only one left after that, the night before Thanksgiving 1993. Then it's back to the DATs, I already have 4 shows sitting on my desktop waiting to do - plus a few of Rich's cassettes that I have waiting to do.

I got the following email 5 days ago, while the forum was down. I wanted to post it for comments, help, etc. - "Hey Ed, my name is Brody and I live in Montana. I heard Max Creek for the first time on Sirius radio when I was in Jersey last week and they played this KILLER song but I didn't write down what show it was nor did they provide the song name... I know for a fact that Derek Trucks was TEARING it up with them though. His slide guitar in undeniable! Anyway, I've been going through archive.org shows kind of one by one trying to find a show with Derek playing with them. I found one (only because it had the most reviews so showed up at the top) and I downloaded it and it is awesome but I'm not sure if it's got the same song... anyway, I was just wondering if you knew of any other shows that Derek sat in with them on... if you do thats awesome, if not... thanks for putting shows up. I got your email from one of the notes on a show you put up. What an AWESOME band Max Creek is! I'm amazed I never heard of them until now, and I'm glad that i found them. Thanks for your time man. Brody."

lots of free parking at night. You just got to get lucky. I haven't paid for night parking in years. No joke. Y0u mite have to walk a block or two though. Just head the tow zone signs. Loading zones, meters, and 1 hour parking ends at 6pm. Don't park in handicap or near hydrants.

Yes Ed, that is me. Zappa, I know who you are now and I know Linda also - for a long time. My 2 twin daughters used to come to the Creek with me and my wife (ex now though still great friends), they are around asia's age. I've lurked here forever but never knew that Zappa was you. Most people just know me as the guy with the laser engraved magnets.
I was a very good friend of Rich's (He was my college roomate and long time friend - many Dead shows together). I'm originally from Ludlow, MA. First saw the Creek in '78 and me and my Ludlow friends used to go everywhere to see them. Back then, we used to try to get Rich to go but he would only come once in a while. Anyways, see ed's pic and I'm sure you'll recognize me.
