I do think Ruth had the most impact on the game, did more to build up the sport than anyone else. Of course that may be because he played in NYC (most people don't even know about his pitching, which took place in Boston), or maybe because he wasn't an a$$hole like Ty Cobb was.

sweens, I fared quite well... too well - in fact I left half my bus grab for the maid when it was time to go... simply could.not.finish.it. Scariest part was two locals offering to take me and my lady over to Dunns Falls... about halfway there I was like... hmmm...this is a touristas go home remake, in the making.

Salty, check out this page: http://www.archive.org/details/mc1994-11-26_set2 it says he lost set 1. By coincidence, you loaned me that set 1, but set 2 is missing. (I'm recording your set 1 now, wish I could combine it with the other) It says he patched off Sennheisers, which is what you used. (I don't believe in coincidence :)

Tyrus Raymond "Ty" Cobb (December 18, 1886 – July 17, 1961), nicknamed "The Georgia Peach," was a Hall of Fame baseball player and is regarded by historians and journalists[1][2] as the best player of the dead-ball era and as one of the greatest players of all time. Cobb also received the most votes of any player on the 1936 inaugural Hall of Fame Ballot.[3]... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ty_Cobb

Hey ed, good pick... I was there and if memory serves me corectly, that was the show where Mike Gordon showed up after his phish gig at darien lake? Speaking of MG, I had my first MGB experience last night. I would echo the thoughts of Bob and Greg there. It was very fun and I enjoyed hearing new interpretations on old favorites. Very enthusiastic, albeit young crowd. Oh and a Josh and Puff sighting in western NY! Hope you both enjoy niagara falls! :-)

Suzuki at .308... mega yawn... yeah i know who cares?... but note: where's the Angels and Rays?... or even the White Sox... the White Sox' leadin' hitter is Dye at .303 (#13), LA's best hitter at present is Guerrero at .293 (#20), and Tampa's is Longoria at .278 (#38)... funny game baseball... but we love it so... oh and lastly, there is no such thing as a 1/2 game... Yankees sit 10 back in the loss column... 6 out of the wild card... but i'm sure you know that already...

Word......... to what Bosco said. Killer show by Mike's Creek!!!! It was waaaaaay more than I expected. I don't know what tune they opened with but X completely shredded during it. The 2 Phish tunes that Bosco refered to were Makisupa Policeman and Meat. MP was during the middle of the set and Meat was the encore. Gordon took the lead for MP which was cool since Trey usually does when Phish does it. I really enjoyed the show and would love to catch that lineup again. Oh yea...... and X got Bosco back for the 03' chicken wing incident. Never did find that bar X. Classic!!!!

I very much enjoyed X and the Gordon Band in Buffalo this evening. Scott really had room to play and to shine. Cruel World was the most elaborate rearrangement of that song I've heard yet...and it got a great crowd response. I've never been a Phish fan nor even really a Gordon fan but I enjoyed this act tremendously. They did 2 Phish tunes. I don't know what they were called and I'd never heard them before. But you could tell they were Phish tunes because all of the kids that had been largely docile for much of the show went apeshit when they broke into them. Musically speaking, I didn't think they were any better than Mike's solo stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed most every tune though. X was awesome. Contrary to an earlier post about Gordon and 3 not doing enough X songs...I very much enjoyed watching Scott bring his style and musical interpretation to someone elses music. That was really fun and really interesting. And he shredded at times. Glad I went.

Sarah - I think its wonderful that you never had a bad day, saw a bad band, heard a bad song. I am envious of your youthful optimism, no doubt. But for many, that kind of thinking is not a reality. Even people who obviously share the common interest that is the basis of this forum somethims do not care for certain things and express it. It seeems to me that people are getting on VMS beacause he said he did not dig one gig out of countless others. Its ok.

I vaguely remember the controversy that led to IPs being displayed. Wasn't someone constantly "impersonating" someone else, hence the solution to display IP addresses? So it was Buzz who was the culprit? Anyway, I am certainly not Buzz and until this year I probably posted a total of 3 times on this board. Oh and Buzz, sorry but I don't subscribe to your arbitrary forum rule of not "busting chops" unless I specifically know the person. Oh and Sarah, hugs back at ya! :~))

George Herman (Babe) Ruth - As a dazzling southpaw pitcher in his early 20's George proved to be a workhorse on the mound for the Red Sox. He pitched over 300 innings in consecutive seasons, winning 23 & 24 games respectively. George compiled a 94 - 46 (.671) record and had an ERA of 2.28. He also 3 - 0 in the world series tossing 31 innings and allowing just 19 hits with an ERA of 0.87. His record of consecutive scoreless innings pitched in the World Series was not broken until 1961 (43 years) by Whitey Ford. His pitching career was tragically cut short by management in an attempt to make him an everyday player. We'll never know just how great a pitcher George would have gone on to be. I hear he went on to become a pretty good hitter.

Ok so I'll bite....who are you vms? What is your real name? You say we've had several nice conversations in the past. That statement means little because I have several nice conversations with lots of people all over the country. So kick down, who are you? Are you Frank Messina aka: the Poet? Which by the way was Warren for a while too. Or are you some random dude or chick that is just trying to get a rise out of everyone? So bare all dude. Also vms, just so you know. The reason the show from Falls Church is not available for download is because I was the only taper at that show and have not had a chance to track it yet. I also thought out of all the KBM shows I saw that one had the best version of Sugaree. I really enjoyed that show. Some of the others I saw were better over all but that Sugaree was really something special. So now, you've inspired me to go through and track it to cd. Also, if PZen would be so kind (once again) to put it up on etree for the rest of the people here to formulate their own opinion. Most of the people from this forum were not at that show and have no opinion of the music. Sound good? Then we'll see if YOU are smarter than an 8th grader....HA HA HAAA!!! Sorry, a little Howard Stern reference. I thought you might enjoy that!

some of you may be too young, but back in the days when we all played nice with each other out here there was no need for ip numbers..........until such time as when BUZZ began posting as a homeless, wayward, insane person named WARREN hell-bent on wreaking havoc on the max creek crowd the next time they played at the webster. he had the max creek community in a frenzy and this quickly lead to ip numbers being posted on the forum, at which time the seemingly mild mannered everyone's favorite uncle (or grandfather) type of guy, BUZZ was exposed as the forum's terrorist. the world nor the forum has been the same since. knowing these cold hard facts, is it such a stretch to think that BUZZ is also vms?

Yup Kenny I criticized early 3 because in my opinion it wasn't that good a show. I also think it's the only show that hasn't been shared on etree. Hmmm. But later I said I thought 3 at Camp was the best music I heard that weekend. They totally blew me away! I always give my honest opinion and endeavor to explain it with as much insight as I can muster. Having read this forum for a while now there is a lot of dissension that has nothing to do with me. People just love to bicker back and forth about anything and everything and I don't take it personally but others obviously do. Everything X does is not gold (just most) and I will not be a kiss ass. If anyone feels constructive criticism is negative then I say that's your problem. There's a certain clique here that will always be on the lookout to gang up on someone and attempt to silence or sway their opinion. If they want to take out their frustrations on me, I can handle it. But can they? So far the answer is no. They insult, cry, taunt and use whatever angle they can in an attempt to cajole others into conforming to their narrow view when it would be much easier to accept that others may have a different opinion. Heck, I was able to acknowledged and accept sweens point of expressing his opinion of my opinion which I agree he should be fully free to do. And of course some already forgot my very positive review of MGB. HB just pretty much echoed my earlier comments. Here's another comment: It was fun watching Mike and X jump up and down onstage during one song (not sure what it was)! MGB is very fun stuff that everyone should go and experience, especially if they didn't care much for Phish. Apples and Oranges.

When I post the show here on the forum, only the flac files are available immediately, the site has to derive the other formats. It's being a little slow today, but the files for listening will be there soon (I hope). Some of the older shows are only available in flac or shn formats, because back then people wanted to maintain the shows in "lossless" formats. Things have changed now, and pretty much all newly-posted shows are available in all formats. If the people who put up their older shows wanted to, they could go back to them and instruct the site to derive the other formats. If they can't be bothered, I am willing to download them, and put them up again in all formats for them. Hope that answers your question.

sk seeing Les Paul on Labor Day is a no go, it's the start of the semester and nobody is supposed to be taking days off during this time... but yes I would like to see him... maybe one of the Mondays in November -- we will be there anyway, a little crusty around the edges after three days of Phil, but it's a sitdown joint so we can snore

salty...how bout ya can't have dark without light? there is no ~Source~ of darkness, there is only a Source of light, and dark is just light obstructed. u could also interchange dark/evil, light/love. So yeah, I went to New York last night and check out MGB. Best show so far in my opinion (for what it's worth...ha haa!) good stuff! They even did and acoustic bluegrass jam with some special guests. They all gathered around one mic (Del McCoury style) they had an older guy playing banjo (whom I've met before but his name escapes me) The keyboard player played the acordian. Mike on acoustic bass (not an upright but a martin like Jshep's) Scott on acoustic guitar and harmonies. Another random dude on guitar. Their drummer played a small drum and the percussionist bounced a huge ball (very cool to watch but didn't add anything musically) . Very very cool! Then they came back electric and had 2 chicks play saxophone. It was awesome! Very entertaining visually and musically amazing. I took a shit load of pictures which I will post later. They keep getting better as the shows go on. I think one of the highlights for me was seeing Eric not working and just enjoying himself and rocking out. Good times had by all. I'm feeling a little crusty around the edges today but man was it worth it. Wish I could go to VT. I would be going but SpiTune has a gig in Saratoga Springs. So I'm kinda committed....HA HAA!! Have fun to anyone who does venture to Vermont. You KNOW that's gonna kick! And always remember and don't ever forget...I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

I do not know VMS, but it seems he lost favor after he criticized 3. People seemed to freak out over that. I'm sure X does not have a problem with criticism of his music on this site as long as it is done with some kind of insight. Then yesterday, Tommy made an innocuous joke and the forum was threatened to be shut down. It seems people are being a bit uptight lately.

Got back into it in the late 90's again but most of my old crowd from my hometown has left the scene. I've met so many people because of the forum that I consider great friends with now. I think I met Shake first from the forum crowd. Ate a brownie, had a few beers and then lost my mind for the second set

Personally, the last thing i check out when discovering a new band is their forum. I'll check out their music on the archive and go see a show before wanting to get involved with the community/family. It's more of a tool to keep current fans connected than drawing in new ones.

While I agree that the forum could certainly promote the band, it seems to me that Max Creek has created an intimate following which many of us refer to as the "family" and the forum keeps us connected. I think that newcomers are welcomed and after coming to shows and actually meeting people, the forum becomes another connection. I agree that we could do without the negativity, but alot of the sarcasm comes from the fact that most of the people here know each other and can joke around in a different way than strangers can. Sometimes people get out of line though and that should stop.

ok not new here agree with boris, spacey, skeets, not sk. insults aside (always a couple odd apples, thats life) not real sure the rest of the posts on this forum promote the band a real lot. we get some baseball stuff, loves, hugs & shout outs, lots of links to shows to listen to (creek and others), lots of birthday wishes, lots of old stories/reminiscences, some jokes and when the band plays--reviews from the gigs (my favorite). but when the band aint playing its often the time the posts go south. i know eric and X would have shut this site down long ago but yeh they keep it open in its free forming flow and I still like it for the most part. if not for the forum i would have no one to vicarously live thru i know that:). thanks MAX CREEK for keeping the site up. The GOOD posts still far outweigh the bad if you really look at the majority of the posts!

I think Spacey was dead-on right this morning. No matter what anyone thinks of its efficacy as a promotional tool, the Forum is paid for by the band to promote the band. When we spend all day throwing around schoolyard insults, what kind of image are we putting out there? If someone saw X playing at one of the MGB shows, or one of the 3 shows, and wanted to check out Creek, what would they see here? A bunch of stupid taunts. Would they know or care that no offense was intended? Probably not. They'd just move on. And when that happens, we're shooting the band in the foot and wasting the money they invest in keeping this Forum up and running.

Sp@ce, I think the music speaks for itself and the forum doesn't have that much of an impact. I could be wrong but I think it would be foolish to judge a band by its forum. Just about everyone I have ever turned onto X and Max Creek has been blown away. In fact, at Camp this year I came with 5 people who never saw them before (my 19 year old nephew and a few of his friends). They all of course loved it and said they want to go again next year and will be telling more of their friends how great it is so I expect next year there will be even more newbies. 15 years ago I brought another friend to Camp and even after he later moved to Arizona, he still flies in each year just to experience the magic once again. Okay, it's time to work now so I won't have time to respond to insults until later tonight!

Heck, even the masterful, ultra-talented X had to get one although I hope the projects he's now involved in become rewarding enough for him to play full-time again.

good morning all! just imagine for a moment, that u are in the band, and you pay the bill for this forum every month, and you're thinking that alot of new people are going to be drawn here right now because of scott's national gigs, which is putting creek in a sort of spot light, and they'll want to check out our "scene" and maybe make a decision whether they'd like to go to a max creek show... do you think YOU would want to keep it going as the marketing tool that it is, when so much negativity is being posted?

The Realm of Music Festival took place this past weekend in New Castle, CO. One of the highlights was a Saturday evening performance by a trio comprised of new bandmates Bill Kreutzmann and Oteil Burbridge (KBM) and Burbridge's longtime collaborator Col. Bruce Hampton (ret.). Kreutzmann arrived at the festival on Friday evening and he also sat in throughout the performance by Great American Taxi, which focused on material from the Taxi catalogue. The Realm of Music Festival, now in its third year, benefits the Realm of Caring charity, which is designed to support arts programs in public schools.
