the deadhorse continues but really the political talk i read was tame but someone has to always bring up shutting down the forum. no one threatened anyone. Non one got hurt no one was personally attacked. Politics can be like music. There are choices what to believe or listen to. if politics were here 24/7 yeh that would be as dull as baseball or hey idle nothing chat. its one day periodically and ive read some great posts that make you think but to post politics are gonna get the board shut down again is as dead a horse as the political posts themselves. if you cant read a few political posts use your mouse and page down............sheesh---On a music note the Mayocks in Avon last nite with Dennis F on guitar were super sweet. the doubledown (now Frescas i think) is back with live music.

Why is politics bad, but football, baseball etc ad nauseam is ok? i realize this is the creek forum, but didnt they arise during political turburlent times? yes, we, or at least I know, every politician is a cocksucker, but a little healthy outrage is necessary for the soul....besides theres only so much you can talk about a band that plays about a dozen shows a year, no?

I agree with JARdale. All this talk just causes angst and a pissing contest that never ever ends until WE the people end it. Or until you piss off the powers that be and the forum gets shut down. Rise above it and please don't let it get to that point. So let us do it....and move on. You have the power...use it.

I give Clinton credit for handing the House and Senate to the Republicans who under John Kasich's CBO balanced the budget and strengthened the U.S. dollar and the economy stayed strong in spite of Clinton's tax increases. There's the prosperity part. But let's not forget, he handed the next admin a recession. The peace part? Well, when you react to the bombing of the Cole, the embassies in Africa, and the WTC with attornies and criminal proceedings, yes things may stay peaceful. But we see how are enemies view such weakness now.

Really, if you look at it objectively, Clinton betrayed the democratic platform on many fronts. Welfare reform betrayed the poor and downtrodden, don't ask don't tell was a slap in the face to America's gay population, NAFTA betrayed organized labor which (all combined, including the teacher's unions) is the largest contributer to the party, and let's not even go into his respect for women.

...well, people give FDR the credit for ending the Great Depression, but in fact it was the military buildup forced by the rise of Nazi Germany. Ironically, if any single person was responsible for the end of the depression, it would have to be Adolf Hitler.

when the day comes when we figure out a viable energy alternative to oil/coal/nuclear, whether it be a solar panel that is so efficent that one the size of whats on a calculator can power a house or splitting water efficiently to burn the oxygen and hydrogen.. whatever .. we will see economic expansion that makes the internet age look small. Imagine what not having energy bills will do to your household budget and the budget of every business in the world. The reduced strain on infrastructure from not having to move oil and coal around.. let alone the environmental benefits. I'm dreaming I know... but that would be an economic expansion that will blow out minds.

just my opinion... but I believe the growth of the economy in the 90s was simply due to the advent of the internet. Think about how slow business ran at the start of the decade vs how they operate today. There was no way to communicate with other businesses, or plants within the same business - we made phone calls, sent letters thru the mail. Amazingly slow. The internet brought about MASSIVE productivity gains that the world never saw before. Businesses could conduct business around the country and around the world in realtime... supply chain management used to be forms filled out on paper and took weeks to update, now everythign is on the internet and adjustments are made instantly. These productivity gains fueled HUGE expansion and created greater personal wealth (more tax revenue) huge corporate growth (more tax revenue) and huge capital gains tax revenue from all the stock sales.

Remember, Bill didn't really balance the budget... he borrowed a ton of money from the Social Security trust fund, like every President before and since. The Government decided not to count that borrowing against the budget deficit, so they declare that a budget deficit is really a balanced budget.

Bill gets the credit for this reason by raising taxes and cutting some spending he balanced the budget wich enabled the fed to cut interest rates without the inflation spiral we are now experiencing. And I don't think he can be blamed for the .com bubble this is created by our market system and the monkey see monkey do human mentality. This bubble is still around too it has just shifted to housing and now Oil. I would take the .com econ over the oil and war econ any day

Ed - re: your question... the economy drove the growth in 90s, but I don't give credit to Clinton, just think he happened to be in office during the time. I think he was lucky. Also, think during that time, we sat idle on a few things mentioned before. Energy investment, Extremism, Cancer research. (which we still are lacking). Honestly, I don't think history will be kind to Bill when we fast forward 20 years. Second part... Iraq is a costly mess, we have a Congress that spends too much and we have a slow economy that doesn't provide the tax revenue. It's liberating when you don't take sides and just call em as you see em.

ok, this may kickoff a firestorm and understand I truly am independent... but I find it interesting that liberals hate government so much, yet want taxes to be higher and as a result govt will be larger. Seems like a paradox to me. Govt will ALWAYS be corrupt because they dont have competition. Businesses stay competitive because market forces require it to. Govt doesnt face the same competition and elections are way off on the horizon, people have short memeories and it is way difficult to evaluate a single politicion, so corruption and incompetence will always persist. So for me... I want as small a govt as needed. I do NOT want govt to provide administrative services because when they administer, they do it wastefully. Military is the only agency that should be large because it has to be. I believe govt should be involved in financing of crucial programs - I think we dropped the ball on alternative energy. How can we blame oil companies? they are like any other business and their job is to make money not solve world problems. This is one area where the govt should have financed scientific exploration decades ago. Shame on George 1 and shame on Bill Clinton.. all that prosperity and relative peace in the 90s and this country accomplished NOTHING. The country was moved forward by business, not govt in the 90s and govt sat idle. I also believe we spend way too little on medical research. Only $5 billion a year on cancer research when it is a disease that affects EVERY family in the world at some point. We should be spendign more on this. BUT I do NOT want the govt to conduct the research.. only finance, because if they conducted it nothing would get accomplished. Small govt that finances key problem solving inititives. Sorry.

... I heard a study recently about American news, two decades ago, candidates ( or the president) were given, on average, a 40 second sound bite...today, on average, that soundbite is down to seven seconds!!! you don't get context... because they don't want you to get it... I refuse to watch any American news anymore, local or national, they suck (where is Walter Cronkite when we need him!) watch the BBC news at 7 p.m. -- an hour of news around the globe and in this country, very refreshing, just the news.

unfortunately we need the high prices to get our butts in gear, we've had 30 years of doing not much of anything, Christ we put a man on the moon in 12 years after being embarrassed by Sputnik... the budget is a joke...85 to 90% of it goes directly to the military-industrial complex, and we get the crumbs... pure greed and corruption people, that's all it is, there aren't enough conscious people in power to do anything, and the greedy people do not care, they want us to be stupid and non-thinkers (why do you think certain things are illegal when they clearly are not harmful? just think, not one single death in recorded history from the green... but take 20 aspirin, and you'll kill yourself...). we're fucked. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile... and listen to the music play... can't wait until Lupos!

I just exposed myself to Pandora.com, put in Max Creek for the station, it's given me a bunch of old hippie groups to listen to :) but I want to give the nod to the production values of the Windows album, it's played a couple tracks off there, and the production is stellar, pretty much better than everything else I've heard so far, even compared to some of the dead albums...!!

cars could have solar panels on their roofs to charge themselves, and put a couple on your house to capture some of that energy that way. the rich folk could deal with some windmills being 20-30 miles off shore. nuclear wouldn't be bad either if they made it safe with little to no waste to deal with. i dunno, i have no doubts at all that we'll overcome this issue. Crisis will motivate invention.

..and further more the united states is facing a grim financial future..we're stuck in a $53 trillion fiscal hole that gets deeper by $2 or $3 trillion a year, we're on an unsustainable path..plus economists say that by 2040, we'll be unable to adequately fund education, the arts, health care or any other program that we rely on every day..the opportunity for kids to have a public school education will be nonexistent if congress doesn't address the budget issues now..the problem will only get worse in the next three years, as the first wave of the 78 million baby boomers reach retirement..simply put, there are not enough working americans in younger generations to foot the health care bill of the baby boomers..so u see we're pretty much screwed..h*ll my folks retired and now they're working on the road so they don't use up all there retirement before they need physical help

Electric power from a power plant is very ineficient; half the power generated is lost to resistance in the power lines. Until we develop superconductors capable of transmitting all that electricity, we will continue to get only 1 kwh for every 2 generated, green or not.

we're long overdue to get ourselves off oil based fuels. these high prices are the much needed kick in the ass for america to actually develop alternative technologies. We could all have a car that gets us back and forth to work that we plug in, has zero emissions and gets 250-300mpg equivilant to current gas prices if we really wanted to. society in general hasn't focused on it because it wasn't a problem at the time.

I don't think oil prices will ever really come back down. This isn't like the 70s. Supplies are stretched close to the limit, and demand is growing exponentially. My guess is that $5 a gallon is the new reality.

I'm not absolving and the flip side is I won't give too much credit in good times either. But many think they are like kings who decide the fate absolutely. They can influence, but don't control. No one person has that kind of power over a $13 trillion dollar economy.

This isn't like the kind of recession you mean. This recession is caused by the price of commodities, not by the natural cycle of business activity. We had a taste of it late in Jimmy Carter's administration, when the price of oil went way up. The Federal Reserve tried to treat the problem by raising interest rates, but that only made things worse. We came out of that one ok, but the problems weren't anywhere near as severe as they are now. By the way rochguy, I haven't mentioned politics at all in this diatribe.

Recession is part of the natural ebb and flow of an economy. Markets will adapt and come back stronger... it's the best time to load up on stocks for the next bull run, so keep funding those 401k's. Always amazes me how much credit/blame any President gets regarding the economy - good or bad. In either situation, they have much less power than the public gives them credit for.

I want to make a prediction. (Well, who cares, Ed?) I did predict the housing market problems long before anyone else, but only told one friend at work, so I can't really take credit for that one. (By the way, despite the reassurances of the "experts," that's going to continue to worsen for at least another year... the number of mortgages whose rates are about to go way up won't peak for another year.) Anyway, I predict the worst recession since the Great Depression of my father's youth... Obviously the price of energy is one reason - our economy isn't predicated on $4-5 gas, and it won't support those prices. The other problem is ethanol; we are putting so much of our food into our gas tanks that the price of food for the table is going way up. Employees are feeling the pinch already, and business can't afford to pay them enough more to make up the difference. The experts say we are going to escape this recession, since the numbers are still ok... what they are missing is that credit card debt is rising fast; people can't make ends meet now, so they are making up for it by using their credit cards for the difference. That can't continue for long... soon they won't have that option, and they won't have the ability to pay for their necessities. What happens then is anybody's guess, but it won't be pretty. By the way, CAMP CAMP CAMP CAMP CREEK CREEK CREEK CREEK!!!!

Right on about the puppy mills, Smiles. Back in the 70's and 80's my dad worked hard to promote the idea "buy puppies from a breeder." These puppy mills breed any two dogs without regard to what the results will be, keep them in very poor conditions, often sick and malnourished, and then sell them to the pet stores (or anyone else). If you want to buy a breed dog, go to a couple of dog shows, check out the breed you want, ask questions, find out who's reputable, and then buy your dog.

from ROLLING STONE 08/23/69: "My way is music. Music is me being me and trying to get higher. I've been into music so long that I'm dripping with it; it's all I ever expect to do. I can't do anything else. Music is a yoga, something you really do when you're doing it. Thinking about what it means comes after the fact and isn't very interesting. Truth is something you stumble into when you think you're going someplace else, like those moments when your playing and the whole room becomes one being -- precious moments, man. But you can't look for them, and they can't be repeated. Being alive means to continue to change, never to be where I was before. Music is the timeless experience of constant change." -- Jerry Garcia

That is an idea Sweens! I wouldn't mind that at all. My boyfriend on the other hand probably would not like the idea. He is a HUGE Black Crowes fan and likes the looks of Fridays lineup. Maybe I'll play it by ear and see what the finances look like when it comes around. If I really feel I shouldn't spend the $$, Saturday is the best day and I could do $70.

I was just listening to the Angeline set from StrangeCreek. I really did enjoy that set. I am glad Emily is getting more opportunities to play. She is great! I love her band. Great harmonies and good song writing. They remind me of a richer version of the Indigo Girls at times. It's good to get the feminine touch.

Camp definitely comes first. I would never consider missing it to go to the Vibes, I am just thinking about whether to add the Vibes to my plans. Creek is where my heart lies. Usually I am rarely even tempted by the Vibes. This year, however, the lineup is tempting. Still, I doubt I can swing it.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgement, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life, not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are times of fast food and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete. Remember: spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember to give a warm hug to the one nest to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember to say 'I Love You' to your partner and your loved ones but, most of all, mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER ... Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I dont recall Park Street area ever being that great after the 70's. Decline of the neighborhood eventually put the old White Swan out of business. Was once a neat folky kind of club, and Creek actually squeezed in there...once. Among other issues, might have been our buddy Kenny lying on the stage dissecting a speaker dome with a buckknife and laughing hysterically...

not the best of 'hoods these days, the west end, but by hartford's standards, one of the better 'hoods in the city, an ex senator was just walking to breakfast a few weeks ago down by capital ave behind the hartford courant and had the crap beaten out of him by 3 youths, he's okay now, but it was touch and go for awhile, and there was a hit and run on park street that left the victim in a wheel chair for life, neither the 3 youths or the driver of the car have been arrested yet, both happened about 3 - 4 weeks ago

Franklin Giant is classic. While the ‘hood has gone to hell, this venerable institution still remains and has the best grinders, subs, whatever you want to call them. I would put their grinder up against anyone. There are a couple more in Hartford almost as good, The Corner Grinder Shop, same street, and Maple Giant Grinder, Maple Ave. I actually prefer Maple Giants Pepper & Egg (they cook it fresh to order) and Eggplant over Franklin’s.

Ha Sk, my calander still says its June :) :) Ok, wsp hmmmmm i had a fun night for sure. The venue was great, in and out's to boot. This venue is for plays not jam bands. The secruity was so lax, and the beers where only $5. The first song and jam was strated by the drummers, and then the boys joined in. I feel the second set was much better. The main dudes voice is something to get used to, but i have heared that about our boy many times before. I really want to see Jimmy H with x / warren, so he could take off and fly over the top. That Bell dude clearly can not keep up. Over all, solid B+++ show. Those spread necks are classic (the golden road to unlimited devoation, to say the least!) If they farted into the mics they would all still bow down to there gods. The ladies are quite the treat however, the most quality i have seen at a jam band gig, fer sher!

Puff, unfortunately, Justin & I aren't gonna make it to Plymouth this weekend. I forgot that my cousin is turning 4 and his birthday party is saturday. I have to go and my dad is travelling down here for it. I am available Sunday but I know Josh is supposed to have band practice. If we can't do it this weekend, we will do it as soon as possible. Love you guys and see you soon.

hopefully house prices continue to go down. they're way overpriced. there was no reason for values to go from the low to mid 100's to 250-300k in a matter of a few years. two people making decent money can't even afford a mortgage and everything that goes with it for those kinds of prices.

certainly no expert here cfah, but i dont think were anywhere near the bottom of this real estate fall out. Wait uitl this winter when people have to start heating there houses. My litte spread is gonna generate an oil bill of around $1400 for each fill up. OUCH!! I was told yesterday that one law firm in CT here is handling 250 foreclosures per week right now. They only have one other law firm doing this so its a monopoly of sorts and reported in the courant over the weekend.
