Where the bouncers looking into stalls? at Lupos? was it an all age show? if so I am going to call and demand to speak the manager and rip him a new a**hole because my son was bothered by security perverts..that is unfuckinbelievable..if we dont do something about they will get worse..i remember I was a show there and the bar was still serving, I got my beer, literally just finished paying for it when some securtity douche was grabbing my arm and putting me out the door, when i demanded my money back around six of them surrounded me an escorted me out...~STAND UP TO DOUCHEBAGS

Similar feelings as Derek...I will always be there no doubt... as much as possible... given the time limitations that goes with the law, raising a 2 year old girl, and waiting on another girl in AUG...but I do worry about people who see them once this tour and say "not for me...too out there..." and bypass the next. Obviously, the band cannot exist solely for the crowd, but it would be nice to pack these places. NO reason why this lineup should not be... C U in NH, Boston, VT......

Hi. And thanks all. My .02... Same Things should only be played with 6 guitar strings and percussion... no more... no less (unless a string should happen to break). cant wait for july 16- a show we can all agree on. 3 is fun, but 4 (or five if both drummers are there) is gonna be happening on july 16. I think that the band will get better as they learn more about each other, and new songs. I thnk billy is one nasty mofo on the drums, and that alone is worth the price of admission.

I'll risk the wrath of the 'itsallgood' crowd and say I had (at Lupo's) a few similar thoughts, if just at points, to what vms is sayin. I thought the Pearl Street show was more.. for lack of a better term.. 'accessible' to the audience (and more dance-friendly), serving the songs and flow better than the burly, gnarly jam-for-jam's-sake explorations in Provi, where I sometimes got lost or overloaded or whatnot (check that manic Eyes). I realize this project is about some heavy experimentin', but when you bring it out live you gotta bring the audience along for the ride, at least a little, to feel a part of the thing and feed the energy loop. Of course with the newness of it all, I only expect it will continue to GEL.. I look forward to catching them again when they swing back this way

http://www.webmythology.com/VAXhistory.htm actually VMS was the first 32-bit operating system, to run on the VAX family, one of the best OS i ever worked with! it had an exceptionally rich library of lower-level OS functionality made available to the higher programming languages, ex the RMS (record management services) library, allowed me to process huge amounts of mapping data quickly... back in those days amazingly enough, the disk drives for large computers were still housed in washing machine-sized containers, and were only 300 to 500 MB! http://williambader.com/museum/vax/vax.html look at the bottom of the page for checking out pictures of the RL02 disk drives, there is one with a hammer so you can get a idea of the size of the drive and the platters -- you could basically eat your dinner off of these platters! actually have one of the old platters hanging up in my living room, ask anyone what they think it is, and they're always amazed when I tell them!

It's all good sweens...Having had the pleasure of listening to Scotty for the past 20+ years I realize I expressed my disappointment of his performance a bit harshly in that first post. I'm sorry that I ruffled some feathers but stand by my critiques. But on a positive note, the Tower Jam on their myspace page is great fun! And what Oteil did during his Yellow Moon solo at their 1st show in MA was pure genius! That solo alone put him light-years ahead of most other bass players in my book! It had an element of out-of-time real soul rather than just a flurry of babbling notes. I can't wait for tonight...there might be a great difference as they've had more time to feel each other out and find a groove. YES..LET THEM COOKIES BAKE so they can melt in my brain!

So some liked Brent some don't.My original comment was I don,t want to hear Brent play Dark Star W/out The Dead.I think people develope their musical loves and hates at a certain age 15-25 yrs old and then just stick with it. How many people start liking a new bad at age 45 or so. I beleive music means more to you when you are young for some reason.BTW my 1st dead show, Dillon Stadium Hartford CT 1974.Oh and thanks for sticking up for me Smiles!!

goood morning peeps!!! my take on 3 is that its ~NEW~ and its not the dead or creek. (just think of how differently x got to experiment and expand w/depth quartet) 3 has coined themselves as a POWER TRIO (whatever that means to them). 2 of the originals x took with him are cruel world and chains of life. 2 of the harder, in-your-face tunes. (i don't think we're gonna be getting a willow tree anytime soon ; b) and the 3 boyz met for the first time altogether like a month ago???!!!! so we all gotta give it sum time to marinate! playing in a new band is probly alot like making love with a new partner...ya gotta figure out where to give and where to take, what they like, what i like from them...with only the occasional elbow 2 the face hahaha i sure am looking forward to seeing where this new path takes them ALL, and i defly plan on havin sum FUN along the way!!! : )

actually that's how I come to know a lot of people by meeting them first electronically, and when you're posting, there you are, so it's nice to refer to you as other than just '*', even if it's a one letter handle, I think, where not in ('b','x')... go for it, pick something :) I appreciate reading your review and your opinion, because the opinion is thoughtful and well stated, and respectful... pretty sure, not positive though, x reads everything, even while he's on the road...I remember one interview with weir, saying how he wished that the crowd would stop being so incredibly accepting, even appreciating a bad show when everyone knew it was one, in other words a more critical audience... if it's not good I think it's okay to say so, of course it is subjective, but most of us have seen improvisational music for most of our lives, so I know there's definite opinions!! so, keep it coming... checking out the show tomorrow, can't wait, will post something afterwards... now, back to sleep!

Sheesh! Some people just can't accept criticism. My oh my. I suppose the show is what it is...take it or leave it. I agree, for $20 it was still worth seeing. Jerry said not all people like licorice...but those who like licorice really like licorice. Last night's licorice was a bit stale to me although there were some very cool moments such as the end jam of Scarlet where they intentionally skewed the notes making different cool harmonies. That made my ears perk up! I appreciate that Scott is trying not to do the same ole same ole but at that particular show it too often didn't work for me but still I am looking forward to tomorrow because I still have faith that it could be the best show I've heard all year. Any problem with that?

Hey, some of us get tired of the jam band formula, and some of us like acid jazz. And some of us are skipping the shows to stay home and pound out practice language arts assessment tests to meet insane deadlines...!

Golly. I guess it's all about us then. Maybe artists of all sorts have had to learn to deal with people not digging their stuff. Does it just come with the territory of putting yourself out there? I simply don't understand how one becomes an expert on the creative process and enjoyment of others to the point of attempting to direct or control it. Take what you need and leave the rest. I am thankful that 20 bucks got me a ticket to sit in the room with some special musicians who were exploring, at play, and from the looks of it having a great time along with a bunch of us who were appreciative of the experience. Creek foot note: As I was leaving last night someone asked me if I knew the guitarists name. I told him and mentioned Creek. He was curious about the band etc and I tried to put into words what I think can only be experienced by listening to the band. It might be that new fans will be coming through these parts to learn about what I think is one of the best kept secrets on the planet (for better or worse), this band that we love. I for one would love to see the Legend of Max Creek shared with others. May we commence sharing? Ed thank you so much for all the shows you are posting with such care and thank you to all the tapers who are feeding the sweet recordings to him.

I reread my review and the resulting comments: - cfah, you're welcome - even though you were being sarcastic! - Sweens, of course that's your "lame ass wussy" opinion :P - toMMy, I hope they do get their shit together for the boat jam and that you have a great time! - Stretchy, I'm not sure why my name is important as I don't think I know any of you. - Kenny, yes I agree my review was a bit harshly stated...I wrote it just after I woke up and was still a bit grumpy from staying up till 4AM! I love hearing all styles including what the trio played, but not with every song. - Kenny, I also think a keyboard would be a nice addition to the band but I don't think it's gonna happen. - Smiles, I did go to the show very excited and with an open mind as I really love all 3 performers and I certainly appreciate and understand 2 players feeding off each other. But too much is too much. Everyone, Regarding the Trio, I heard that Bill liked the fact the Scott "plays outside the box." Well, he must have said that to Scott since that is now all he is doing. But, for me, this detracts dynamically from the music. IMO you need to spend some time inside the box and THEN go OUTSIDE THE BOX to then return back inside. That's pretty much the jamband formula and is present in countless Creek songs and I LOVE IT, but not when they STAY outside the box. IMO, Oteil is an waaaay more interesting to listen to than Mike Gordon but there are times when he should lay back and let Scott do his thing. It seemed like they were in a constant competition to see how fancily they could play "outside the box" and that got old quick. Another reason I like jambands so much is the constant change of style. I like Blues, I like Bluegrass and I like Reggae but usually don't like hearing those type bands live as I get bored hearing the same style after the 3rd song! Now last night with the Trio, the music style did change from song to song but the "outside the box/acid jazz" soloing did NOT change and so I quickly became bored although I did stay for the whole show unlike many others who left after the 1st set. I think Scott should stop playing like he's auditioning/competing with Oteil as he doesn't have to prove his ability to anyone! I want to hear some sweetness and not a constant barrage of notes. I'm actually hoping some of this feedback gets back to the Trio since I am really excited to hear them continue playing together. They just have to make the jams a bit more palatable and stop the constant outside the box musical masturbation, oh wait, that sounded harsh - I take it back, don't flame me ;)

If you are bias towards straight rock&roll, you might have an issue with the playing style. My buddy Scott, whose been seeing Creek fairly hard for 12 or so years looked at me during the first set at Lupo's and said " dont get me a ticker for the Roxy." He is a classic example of someone whi is intesereted in a limited style of playing. IMHO- if they played it more straight and got a hammond b-3 player, they may take it to the next level in popularity terms. Don't get me wrong, I dig a trio and especially this trio, but it seems thats was the kids did these days.

I thought that was a valid opinion, would be nice to leave a name to it though... I heard that from someone else who has seen both shows, they said the show needs a little more release, and less attack... I also got the feeling that x is trying not to play like he plays with crick, I don't know how that happens, that just shows what a versatile guitarist he is imho... probably I would think they're just trying to find a groove... all I know is that smiles and I are way excited to see the boat cruise on Sunday!

Let's see how many chromatic, dissonant, off-time notes we can stuff in a measure. That was the exercise last night at the Kreutzmann trio performance. Scott Murawski and Oteil Burbridge managed to make virtually every song's jam sound alike. It seemed like they were just trying to show off and impress one another rather than playing to the crowd. Now I love listening to Scott play with Max Creek…but it seemed at this show he was going out of his way to not play like he does with the Creek. It could be that his playing is more contrived than I realized and that this is how he sounds in a more improvised setting. Kreutzmann was the most stable player but did have a lack of overall energy but it certainly can't be easy for a 62 year old man to bang on the drums for 3 hours so it's understandable. The songs sounded thin and maybe that was one of the reasons for the note-stuffing...but not the constant "acid-jazz" take on every song...to compensate for their only being a 3-piece band. Anyhow, I'm going to check them out again tomorrow in MD and hopefully they'll be more rested and relaxed and put on a better show because I honestly expected to hear better music than I did last night!

The guy on this stage with the greenish-blue guitar, behind Bob Weir, is none other than Steve Grogan, AKA Clem & Scramblehead. He was convicted (life w/ possible parole) of killing Spahn Ranch-hand Shorty Shea under Manson's orders. He was paroled (the only Manson family member to be paroled) in the late 80's and is now with a band that plays with legends who join them on stage. Isn't life grand

It seemed to be a good amount of people for the first set, though there was a small balcony area that I think was very thin on people. Alot of people left after first set. Good morning! B, there was actually no effect used on that photo, other than to lighten it from its original state~ when i opened it it was pitch black! I was playing with the f-stop in the manual settings on the camera, just to se what would happen, that's the best of the few shots I took... Wish I'd taken a few more like that :) Bobby took a video but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I know that "3" was selling copies of the chicago show at the wormtown booth (not sure if they plan on selling the sbds of the whole tour), and dsbd.net was taping creek at wormtown .

Ed....that's right. Promising Traveler it was called. I really enjoyed their original stuff. They had a really good keyboardist as I remember. I actually recorded the show they did here in Rochester but it got lost along the way after several years. I did listen to it regularly for quite some time. Thanks for the offer on the disc. I'll dig it up on ebay or something if I really get a hankering to hear it again.

x , thanks for checking. ..If it is a yes, I'd love it if you guys were to review the material first and then select a portion that you're all happy with. I'd rather put up one song that you guys are like 'yeah, that was the shiat' , than three songs that leave the band feeling regrets......if the answer ends up being yes, it would be cool to get a house copy of the show, Toads stage shot from their editing suite upstairs, and then edit in my footage and close-ups over it. If that sounds cool, I'd be willing to contribute towards their fee.

Saturday was incredible. Pretty much loved all the bands. Creek gave an impassioned performance, imo one of their best festival shows in years. Second set was super slow, lots of space, solid groove. The crowd was nicer than in recent years (too many wookies), really nice vibe, which definitely added to the performance. the only downside for me was the first group, DogStar Blue, digital soundboard messed up their recording...seems like they didn't test their equipment beforehand?

In fact, New Potato Caboose had a lot to do with my becoming a Creek Freak... I saw Creek 4 times in late 1989, but got thrown out of the Living Room during intermission of that fourth show, and probably would never have gone back. My landlady's college-age son got me to go to that 2-28-90 show, a New Potato Caboose/Creek twin billing, because he said I'd really like New Potato Caboose. I did like them, but Creek's show blew me away ( http://www.archive.org/details/mc1990-02-28.flac16 ) and I was hooked.

I also see that there's an opener at the State Theater. Based on sk's review of the Lee Brothers, I think I'd prefer "Radio Mosaic" be opening the show in Balt. instead of the State. RM is the remnants of New Potato Caboose (who I VERY much enjoyed when they did a stint in Rochester MANY years back). They had a CD of original material that I very much enjoyed as well....until I smoked it.

most likely Toads will be the 3 for me...a second car can't come soon enough...I'd like to tape the show , in my way...this isn't a MGB show...and with the obvious caveat that I want to share something from it publicly...please let me know in some fashion if yes. I'm easy to get ahold of. No is also easy to read these days.

Bob, don't do anything with Norton -- I tried to uninstall Norton in a very specific way they told me to do so, from their website, and it mangled my registry so badly my computer never booted again. I had to start over from scratch. never again. Just disable the program(s) and leave the folders alone -- if you can't delete them, reboot, make sure no symantec services running, and try to rename the folders. Then reboot, and then you should be able to remove the folders. That's about as much as you dare do. If you buy a top-rated registry cleaner, that may work -- but be very careful a backup of the registry first. time for bed.

this machine is the one I use to share Creek content, as I keep my workstation internet free.I've used the ad aware before, worked good..I do recall having problems removing that though,or zone alarm said it was a threat...its like choose your master. No one wants to help you without owning you.My keyboard misses keystrokes that I have to repeat... space bar still works though : )

rochguy, I was talking about AAC, which is superior to mp3's. Does your iTunes/iPod allow AAC? If so, then that is the way to go. If you're stuck with mp3's then the vbr mp3's on Internet Archive should be close to what you can do at home, and you wouldn't really benefit much by downloading the flac's.

after my kids managed to get my laptop turned into a battle of the pop ups, I ran the free version of Ad-Aware and it found a mere 3456 "infections" after they were cleaned up the pop ups went away. I use the free AVG too... all runs well primarily now. Have a great show tomorrow x and everyone have fun and be kind.

get rid of IE, don't use it. use firefox mozilla.com it does it FOR you. also get the java script blocker add-on (noScript), and i like the keyscrambler add-on. then you'll be in the good. trust me on this.

I am getting pop ups constantly a day afer removing 'low level' adware cookies..all of my blockers are turned on, and highest security settings...Norton used to be good, now it seems like a seive....I tried Zone Alarm some time ago, but it was so needy, I like the program to do the work.Any help?..and yes, I need to ditch IE.

Hey Rochguy, yeah that is how I do it. You can't hear a difference through your computer speakers but through a good stereo system you can definitely tell a difference. It's an extra step but I think it's worth it.

ED - are you saying that if I downloaded the FLAC files, burned to a CD, imported back into iTunes at the "highest quality" MP3 setting in iTunes preferences - the resulting MP3s would sound better than downloading MP3s right from Archive? Is it noticeable? I have a good system....thanks man.

HmmM about that Max Creek, absolutely on fire both nights this weekend super solid very nice great big stuff. I don't know if it will hold me until July, but mix in some BOX shows and a X &Mmm it might. All the music was top notch at Strange Creek. That "Chick" band is Angeline an Emily project and I thought it was smoking, they will also be at Camp. Some other good stuff for me was RMB, Fungus, DT, and Tor. All very good.
