my first car was a 71 mustang- dad bought it for me so we could spend some time working on it as a project car- bought the fancy rims, bf goodrich tires, had an appt to have it painted candy apple red and then it caught fire at my freind EJ's house and that was the end of that.. sucked big time..

morning y'all! My first car was a 78 peugeot my parents handed me down. It was dark blue, diesel and had an 8-track player. I never understood why they stopped importing peugeots... they are excellent cars. I did a report once in my early college years on Albert Hoffman. I still wonder what my professors must've been thinking about that...

Ahhh, memories. My 1st car was an 85 Dodge Charger. Not the cool model either. It was a hatchback, a real piece of junk. As I recall, it would break down all the time, and it was the worst color ever,BROWN.

First cah........ 1978 Toyota Corona. Loved that cah. No clutch for an entire summer. Had to push start it every time. Nothing like parking backwards on any kind of incline possible. By the end of the summer I could start it going up a hill.

And I'm a little concerned it's getting to politicky in here. Gas prices and their causes are one thing as it's current event driven and has a bearing on whether I'll go to the Burlington 3 show...but let's not get carried away and get the Forum shut down again. It's getting too close to election time.

my first car was a 1969 dodge mail truck , right hand drive and a 225 slant six power plant that never let me down , took off the rollup door in the back and installed a second hand wooden house door, a bed installed with plenty of storage under , could fit about 12 freaks and a half keg no problem, the waterbury rolling keg parties of 1976 - 1978 , the " fuba wuhba van" could go just about anywhere with 16 inch wheels and down and dirty tire chains .....and often did ...some of those places a few of us never returned from

I only owned my first car(a 76' Ford Gran Torino) for a week or so. I was living in Florida at the time, and bought the car to move back to Rochester....On the way back, in Fredrick, MD after sleeping in a McDonalds parking lot for the night, I noticed a plume of white smoke billowing from the hood whilst going through the drive thru...being quite groggy, I convinced myself it was no big deal...until the smoke got thick...and turned black...then, I thought it would be a good idea to get out...then a Mc D's worker rushed out with a fire extinguisher...then the fire department arrived...then my luck turned a bit...some guy heard about the fire on his cb radio...turns out he was a junkyard owner, and offered me $75 cash for my car (that was char broiled under the hood)and a ride to the bus station...it sure beat a tow bill, being busted for not having a valid liscense, and being stranded 8 hours from home and broke.....

I don't know what the big deal with the pig is. I saw the Waters show twice on the Darkside tour. Both times they let the pig go. You could watch it getting smaller and smaller and eventually it was out of sight. The first time I thought is was by accident, that members of the crowd had shaken the anti-American foreign policy, anti-Bush messaged pig from its "handlers". After the second show, it was obviously deliberately released. Why do they want THIS one back so bad?

Call me anything but late for supper... Not my first car, but my favorite was the Purple Passion: a faded maroonish '64 Ford Galaxy 500 I bought from a friend of Mmmark's at Hartt in 1973, for about $250 as I recall; it already had 100k on it (a big deal back then), had a big 8-banger in it, and at 75 mph, the blowback from the front end would clear anything airborne two lanes wide and ten feet high. When we all had a house in Rocky Hill, I regularly grazed the center post of the garage, much to the detriment of the structure, not so much to the Ford. I drove the Passion until upcoming repairs to the significant operational systems (motor, tranny, brakes, tires, etc) significantly outweighed the cost of the vehicle. The body is probably still in one piece in a junk yard in Hartford. R.I.P. PP!

My first car was a 1976 Datsun B210 Hatchback. Nothing good to say there. Speaking of cars, most now since I drive a full size truck that gets 12-14 per gallon, it pays for me to have a small beater car. Pays for itself withing months. My latest one is a 1990 Acura Legend, and it has the 2.7 V6, so not the best milage (about 22 mpg, so much better then the truck). Just cost me almost $60 to fill it, and I was thinking, 'hmmmm, 2 years ago I could fill up my big truck for this price". Not good.

Apparently Stretch’s dark side still rears it’s ugly head on occasion. I remember about a year ago we went to the grocery store for something, and when we got back to the car an old man accidently let go of the shopping cart and it hit stretch’s car. I’ve never seen anybodies mood change so quickly. He confronted this old, frail man, grabbed him by the collar and practically lifted him up and said, I know it was an accident, because if it wasn’t you’d be dead now, you better be more careful next time. I was stunned by this, and that’s when stretchy told me the story about his incarceration.

You would not know to look at him, but our mild-mannered, hippie, all around nice guy Stretchy used to be a short-haired red neck in a powerful car, tooling around just looking for some action. The turning point of course came when someone gave him a key job and Stretch just went ballistic on the dude, he beat him to a pulp and put him in the hospital for months. When the cops arrived he said, you want a piece of me too, pig? And he proceeded to go after 4 cops. Stretch spent 11 months in jail for this, getting off a month early for good behaviour, and in that time he mellowed out and soon after he moved to Rochester and he’s been on his best behaviour ever since. Thought you folks should know the truth though.

So I say what would you like to hear honey, thinking she would just say "I wanna hear Max Creek" again. She actually said "I wanna hear Uncle Mark sing Big Boat for me". Good morning... About Cheney meeting with the oil/energy execs... It's pretty well established that Cheney's energy task force met almost exclusively with industry executives, and barely consulted environmentalists, alternate energy proponents, etc. I don't think that could have led directly to $100+ a barrel oil. But it's reasonable to see a connection between who Cheney met with and an energy policy with huge tax breaks and subsidies for oil companies, negligible spending on researching new energy sources, and little or no emphasis on energy conservation. I think Bosco's right, the biggest single cause of high oil prices is increased demand while production has plateaued. But no conservation, miniscule fuel efficiency increases, etc., etc. surely do not help.

ok last political comment for the day... but Grimey define "other policies". too many in this country decide what political side they are on and then everything the other side is evil and only their side is right... without even lookign at facts. Happens on both sides.. Bill Maher, Sean Hannity, etc.ED - Bush had the Red Sox at the White House, does that mean he was responsible for the WS win? So he had energy chiefs over... he has had plenty of business leaders over. So what, is there anything specific that occurred that we should be concerned about? Again, I'm NOT defendign Biush, if somethign happened Id be more thn happy to speak against him...but give facts not gossip.

Tips to save at the pumps: Fill up first thing in the morning. Fill tank when it gets down to 1/2 full/empty. Never use the fastest setting at the pump, pump slow as possible. If you see the tanker filling up the pumps, do not get gas there. QUESTION: Does anybody use any fuel additives that work? (example: Lucas)

And I'm not so sure that's why oil prices are so high ed. I think supply and demand are the greater forces at work here. Huge increases in demand from India and China and our own continued over consumption combined with limited refinery capacity are the bigger issues it seems to me. Some pundits have been saying that big oil has no interest in building new refineries (not that the environmentalists would let them anyways) because a limited capacity to refine decreases accessible supplies driving up prices and profits. I'm changing my ways though. I'm going from a 4.3 litre 6-cylinder hog to a 3.4 litre slighty smaller hog. Still refusing to give up the cargo and tow capacity.

And a large part of why the dollar is worth so little abroad is because of our huge national debt....which is carried largely by China. Our debt transcends administrations. Heaven help us on the day when China decides to cash in its notes.
Bosco
- Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 05:50:49 (EDT) [74.74.162.145]
The biggest reason oil prices are so high is that our dollar is worth so little abroad. President Bush indeed does have control over this, especially since he recently chose the new Federal Reserve chief, Ben Bernanke, and almost certainly would have made sure he would do what the President wanted. Remember also how the Bush administration formulated its energy policy: Cheney met with the CEO's of the major oil companies, and they set the policy. This is what we should have expected when we elected two major players in the oil industry to run the country.

we should have been developing alternative technologies for the last 30+ years instead of just delaying the inevitable. there's really no reason we shouldn't be getting 115+ mpg, if not using something besides oil to power cars. if a car gets 40 miles a gallon they consider that to be great mileage when there are cars overseas that get 3 times that much.

There may not be any out of shape hockey players, what’s your point? Baseball is a different sport, the hardest thing to do in all of sports is to hit a baseball coming at you at 90+ MPH. The greatest basketball player ever, and an extraordinary athlete, Michael Jordan couldn’t do it. In his stint in Double A Baseball (we’re not even talking Triple A here), in 127 games and 436 at bats he hit a weak .202 with just 3 homers and 51 RBI. When he did manage to get on base he stole 30 bases. He also made 11 errors in the field.

4/28/08 - Today’s Player Profile – Greg Luzinski: The big palooka made his hits count. He played 15 seasons and was an All Star 4 times. He had 2 second place finishes in the MVP Voting along with a 7th & 8th. He batted .276, has 880 Runs, 1,128 RBI (4 times over 100), had 1795 hits: 344 doubles, 24 triples and 307 homers, finishing with 2nd in the league, two 3rds, two 5ths and a 6th, Greg could hit the long ball. He was equally as proficient in striking out, in an average 162 game season he would strike out 133 times (1,3,3,4 & 6)and walk 75 times. He had a .363 on –base percentage (4,6,6) while the leagues was .334. He slugged .478 (2,2 & 6), the league average was .394. He led the league in total bases once and also had a 3rd and 6th finish. He finished 2nd twice in Etra Base Hits and had a 4th place finish. In post season play in 82 at bats his numbers were 5 homers, 12 RBI and .244. While not a HOF Player, Greg was very good and probably should have faired better in the balloting, in his first and only year of eligibility he received less than 1% of the vote.

With the NHL playoffs in full swing, I thought it appropriate to change things up a bit, put the cerebral baseball boredom down for a bit, and do a player profile on the most exciting player in pro hockey today. Sidney Crosby and his Pittsburgh Penguins are riding a 6-0 playoff streak easily dismantling the Ottawa Senators in a four games in the process and are halfway to doing the same to the New York Rangers (sorry all you fans of Trumball, CT native Chris Drury). The left shooting, 5' 11", 200lb. centerman from Halifax, Nova Scotia became the #1 overall pick of the Pens in 2005 and quickly established himself as the next great one following in the footsteps of Gretzky and Lemieux being the youngest player ever to score 100 points in his rookie season. Now he wears the "C" on his sweater and appears to be on the brink of spearheading a new Penguins dynasty. His production this season was down due to missing 29 games most absences coming from a severe ankle injury. Still, he boasted 24 goals and 48 assists and he has 10 playoff points this post season (2 fewer than playoff points leader Daniel Briere of the Flyers...but noting Philly's played 3 fewer games), including a 4 point game against the Sens on April 11. He appears to be in peak condition and poised to move the Penguins to their first conference final since the 92-93 season.

JShep...we did see each other briefly late Sat night (the only night I was there) out in the bar, but I will forgive you for not remembering. I don't know how much we "stimulated" the economy since we bought the car private sale, but we did get a "deal of the century" on a really nice 1994 Subaru LSI sedan for Shaylah. This car is in such perfect shape for the year and having the AWD for her is just what I wanted.

ok, try to think back... i know it's hard... :) it's a wednesday night inmid-july, back in 1993, 15 long years ago, and creek hasn't played regular wednesday night shows in oh so long (sorta like now :) but wait! Rich Lupo has opened his new version of Lupo's, and creek is playing there for the first time tonight! So we go, all full of excitement, and Creek doesn't disappoint! Set 1 had Double Dare - Six Days on the Road, Mystery Train, x's poll :), Willow Tree, Wild Side - See Things My Way - Louisiana Sun. Set 2 was more to my personal liking: Emerald Eyes - Big Boat, I Will Always See Your Face - Outside of Home - Well Alright - Sugar Magnolia - Life During Wartime. The encores were I Shall Be Released and Not Fade Away... well now you can relive that evening, thanks to the magic of computers! Where is everyone getting these confirmed WSP dates from? Rochester, Boston, I'm hearing free show in Buffalo, among others. Nothing on their website. Tickets for a supposed Rochester show go on sale today at ticketmaster and there's still nothing even on their website.

I see they play bluegrass... A tree who's hungry mouth is pressed, Against the earth's sweet flowing breast. A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray. A tree that may in summer wear, A nest of robins in her hair. Upon whose bosom snow has lain, Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

4/28/08 - Today’s Player Profile – Tommy John: He pitched for 26 seasons! Tommy compiled a 288 – 231 (.555) record. He had 46 shutouts and averaged 9.1 hits allowed and 2.4 walks for every 9 innings pitched, very good numbers. He ended up with a 3.34 ERA while the league’s average was 3.69. He was a 4 time all-star and finished 2,2, & 4th in Cy Young balloting. It was said at the end of his career that Tommy could still pitch, but he couldn’t field his position anymore. He wanted desperately to get to 300 career wins which has always meant inclusion in the HOF. He’s still on the ballot and receives b/t 20% - 30% of the vote. Should it be 12 more wins and he’s automatic? Tough call, Tommy was a fine pitcher for a really long time and was one of the better pitchers in the league for a handful of seasons. Still, he’s no better than Blylevin or Jim Katt, neither who are in the HOF. Tommy was a little snack-bitten in post season play, ending up only 4 – 5 despite a 2.65 ERA.

Here's a li'l tidbit to lighten your slow Friday afternoon... Now available at Internet Archive: Set 1 (the acoustic set) only of Saturday June 12, 1993 at Woody's Roadhouse, from my own collection of 1st-gen. tapes. Set list: She's Here, Stagger Lee, Gypsy Blue, Back Street Woman, Fire & Brimstone, Trail to Odeo (sung by John), Jones, Blood Red Roses, Hard Love, I Shall Be Released. I didn't really listen to this (I don't much like acoustic), but from what I did hear, it seems that some of these songs were treated a little differently that night. There were no pauses on the cassette, so I left it unedited for you. Go to http://www.archive.org/details/mc1993-06-12.aud.1st-gen.flac16

Tom Tom Club, the group founded by the Talking Heads' Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz will return to the road (and the air) for a series of shows in June. This line-up features the current incarnation of the band (which performed at the 2002 Jammys) with Victoria Clamp and Mystic Bowie on vocals and Bruce Martin adding keys. In addition, Deep Banana Blackout co-founder Fuzz will contribute guitar while the enigmatic Kid Ginseng will appear on turntables. The first performance will take place at the Fairfield Theater Company Stage One on June 17. This will be followed by a show in London on June 20 at Massive Attack's Meltdown Festival and then two dates with DEVO on June 26 (McCarren Park Pool, Brooklyn, NY) and June 27 (Bank Of America Boston Pavilion).

So I'm a little bent out of shape, but I don't know why. I saw that Mule and Ratdog announced a date in Danbury on the Saturday of Camp. No question I know where I'll be that weekend. I am all done seeing Ratdog since the last few shows I have seen were a bit to mellow for my taste. It seems like they could have gone to the northeast some other weekend of the year rather than drawing potentially new campers away, you know? We all know that it's such a great festival and I often wish for others to experience it. Friends don't let friends

you'll know it when you hear it, ranges from merely annoying to obliterating the signal...and sometimes when there are dropouts in the signal, surrounding each drop out will be a big spike (so named because if you have the show turned up at a moderate volume, that's what it will feel like your ears). For many DAT tapes, however, it's a clean signal throughout the show, which is a beautiful thing!

Oh, and that is what I would do to them, though I no longer make cd's of them, unless the donor wants them. I create the flac files directly from the aiff (wav) files. My whole thing is to get them up on Internet Archive so others can enjoy them. Sure beats making copies for everyone! :)

SK..sorry about not calling you back. The bigger question is are you planning on Phil. Would love to have you in my neck on the woods..Eastover rocked. Wish I could have made both nights.. the friday show sounds great. After Gov't mule I made the 4 hour trek and still arrived in time to catch some guitarness...Where else can you arrive at 4:30 in the am and still have kick ass music playin'.

looks like i'm going to make it to hornings hideout and the NWSS in july, the w/e before camp actually, the lineup looks great this year, beautiful venue too, picture camp creek squeezed in (not nearly as wide), surrounded by trees, with a lake in back of the stage, makes it a really intimate setting, and then up to seattle until weds before camp............to see the red sox on mon & tues nites, so who here likes ymsb & the red sox and wants to share costs?
