rainbows are a demonstration of all colours combining together into a wholeness, and illustrate that separateness is an illusion. a rainbow indicates that all paths that are harmonious are ways to wholeness, all races are part of a greater unity, and all paths that create ~beaUty~ are deserving of respect.

i'm irish and i don't drink...except the weird out-of-the-blue occasions like last nite at the laundromat, which is next door to a package store. i hadn't even a sip in months, but something made me go in, grab a guinness 4-pack and have at it in short order. it's out of my system now, which is a shame, because tomorrow i'll be in mexico.

Wow Stretch a bit of intolerance you have there. Stole is a tough word. I think assimilated would be the term. Kind of like Buddhism in Tibet assimilated the ancient Bon belief system into its own. Keep in mind you are judging by today’s standards what happened a thousand years ago. Plus the Catholics still have ritualized human sacrifice what could be cooler than that?

I feel the same way AMS. Not only did the Catholics completely crush the pagans, they stole a lot of the pagan rituals, and turned them into empty ceremonies without meaning. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner Catholicism is on its way out, the better. It seems only to benefit rich white old Italian men who wear funny hats.

of interest is the fact that nobody has ever got in unanimously, hmmm, hard to think someone might have felt aaron or mays didn't deserve to make it their 1st years of eligibility.....i don't see it as racial though, same thing with seaver & mantle too, my guess is that some writers feel that if ruth, gehrig, cobb and those folks never got in unanimously then it's their duty to preserve that record

killebrew was a slam dunk, when he retired he was prolly 5th or 6th in career homers, papi has only had 4 - 5 great seasons, it will take at least another 4 - 5 more for HOF consideration, manny? he should go in in his 1st year of eligibility, unless the writers don't like him and make him wait an addtional year

SK, the baseball bios are fun. Inspired me to look up one of my favorite players of all time, the Big Papi of his time, Harmon Killebrew on Wikipedia. Guess he got into the HOF pretty easily, but as you say, you never know...

an Irishman walks past a pub......
joke
- Friday, March 14, 2008 at 10:38:16 (EDT) [68.116.172.202]
An Irishman, an Englishman and a Scotsman go into a pub. Each orders a pint of Guinness. Just as the bartender hands them over, three flies buzz down and land- one, two, three- in each of the pints. The Englishman looks disgusted, pushes his pint away and demands another... the Scotsman picks out the fly, shrugs, and takes a long swallow. The Irishman reaches in to the glass, grabs the fly between his fingers and shakes him as hard as he can, shouting "Spit it out, ya bloody bastard! Spit it out!"

i once lived in abroad for a spell, and i was really struck by what a solemn holiday St. Patrick's day is throughout europe. I came to realize that this whole parade/drinking/corned beef & cabbage ritual is very much an american thing. Not that i mind. But truth is, i have some deeply mixed feelings about exaulting the man who supposedly "liberated" Ireland from the bondage of the big horrible slothful snake-like druids.

i like doing player profiles on really good ballplayers who have not made the HOF. the HOF is sooooo subjective, it took tony perez years and years to get in, same with orlando cepeda, i think it's really interesting how players like that are just barely in and players like rice, dawson and parker are just barely out. of course there are the HOf slam dunks, mays, mantle, williams, seaver, etc., why do profiles on them, everyone knows they were great.

I shot an arrow into the air, it fell to earth, I knew not where; For so swiftly it flew, the sight could not follow in its flight. I breathed a song into the air, it fell to earth, I knew not where; For who has sight so keen and strong that it can follow the flight of song? Long, long afterward, in an oak tree i found the arrow, still unbroken; And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

You know you're a taper when.... you buy a ticket, party in the parking lot, goto the door only to see signs "there is no audio/video taping tonight, being filmed for T.V., if caught you will be thrown out and equipment will be confiscated" so you proceed into the show, ask for your money back...and get it. huh. I know at least a couple of you have watched some or all of the updated Battlestar Galactica. I keep forgetting to discuss that it really seems to me someone (or everyone?) involved with that show must be "experienced" in a major way....Anyhow, I just came across this 8-minute clip that reviews the whole thing. Not sure whether it will make any sense to someone who hasn't watched, but it gave me a chuckle. http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/

This coming summer, once again the Allman Brothers Band will tour amphitheatres on a co-bill with Bob Weir and RatDog. While only one performance has been confirmed, additional shows will be announced over the coming days. The initial locked date is August 23 in Camden, NJ at Tweeter At The Waterfront. In the interim, RatDog will begin its spring tour on March 21 at the O'Shaughnessy Auditorium in St.Paul, MN, while next up for the Brothers is the Wanee Festival on April 11 and 12.

Thanks for the heads up Sarah. I have been using a couple of different burning programs. My computer came with a program called RecordNow which is serviceable. It burns without the gaps so thats why I keep it around. EAC works well also; although its not as easy to use. It didn't take long to figure it out, and that works too. Someone suggested Itunes on another forum and that also burns w/o the gaps. There must be many others too.

I've got a computer question: What downloadable CD-Burning programs do y'all recommend? I'm still trying to get the battered old Windows ME computer I use to bittorrent and burn CDs back on track. I found a promising CD/DVD-R drive, but it won't work with my old edition of Nero. And of course, Nero no longer has anything available that works with ME. So what should I try now? Thanks!

Today’s Player Profile – Tony Oliva: Tony was a great hitter, one of the best of his generation. He had power and could hit any pitch in any direction. Many people think, me included, that if Tony had better knees and less injuries he would have made the HOF. While the record shows he played 15 seasons, that equaled only 1,676 games. Only 7 seasons did he equal or exceed 146 games played. Tony ended up with 870 runs scored (2 seasons over 100) 1,917 hits, 329 doubles and 220 homers. He drove in 947 runs (2 times over 100), he didn’t walk or strike out much. He was a rookie of the year, an 8 time (all in a row) all-star and had 2 2nd place MVP finishes and a 4th & a 6th place finish. He ended his career with a .304 average. In his 1st year of HOF eligibility he rec’d 15.2% of the votes followed by 20.1 then jumping to 30.8, then he jumped to the high 30’s and peaked with 47.3% of the vote in 1988.

I bought a HP desktop 6 months ago and haven't had problems with vista at all but...I got one with 4, core2duo chips and 8mb ram and 8mb frontside bus...it smokes. I got it for looping live music for my 'one man band' act(which you'll get to see/hear soon enough...i'm gonna start gigging with it within' the year). I needed something that could handle the huge amount of processing. Trust me, i looked at mac's and REALLY wanted one but i dropped $1300 with a huge screen and the equivalent spec'd mac without a screen would have been $3000! So maybe that's the way to go if you need big power and don't wanna break the bank...or maybe if you're using vista, big power to keep up with it?! just thought i'd share my experince...and go see me when i gig! I promise i won't play during a creek show ; ) you know where I'll be!

Back in the early 80's, when I was responsible for the inventory and selling of Creek merch, This guy kept approaching me at creek shows to make a copy of "Rainbow" for him, which was already out of print, but copies were still floating around. I told him that I really didn't feel comfortable doing that, since my boyfriend at the time was a band member, and that was his livelyhood etc... Eventually (few years later) the guy ended up with 2 copies of Rainbow...mine....I married him ;)

what makes Apple computers so great is that it's one smaller company, starting from the ground up, with the hardware and the operating system all-in-one place. so all the drivers, the operating system, utilities, all come from the same company, all with the same philosophy. Microsoft is the exact opposite. I have found Dell computers to be completely satisfactory -- it is always Microsoft I have a problem with. We may have solved my new computer problem at work, it turns out my 3 1/2-year-old PCI express video card may be conflicting with the new computer... if I have no more crashes then that's the problem. thank goodness for the smart tech support people downstairs, they are worth their weight in gold, and I'm sure they need to be paid more than they are...

I am with you sal. I think a lot of us are. I would be happy with tapes made of the albums then digitized without any tweaking, just to hear and to have all the recorded output of my favorite band on the planet. But I will keep quiet if this is a taboo topic and respect the wishes of the creators.

I just got Michelle's B'day present up and running. An Ipod nano. What a fabulous device, but what annoying software itunes is. I don't have the patience to reorganize our entire library so I ended up Googling the problem that being the ipod is not syncing Windows media player, and this free trial software popped up that made her life so easy. She loaded her music up after that, and much to my surprise, included that 20 minute Heartbeat from Crooked lake. My recording making it to her ipod made me feel proud to be a taper.

Long story short relatively without commentary: on Dec 31st, my year-old HighlyrecommendedbyITdept Dell Inspiron 1505 had the umpteenth hard-drive problem; talked to Dell customer service in Pakindiwhereverstan and they agreed maybe I had a bad apple. Three weeks later, the 1505 was replaced under warrantee with a brand spanky new 1520 with same software - and Vista. From all the reports, I assumed Vista would suck oblong pendejo pits, and I'd be replacing it with my XP old software momentarily. Well, so far (so far...) I'm six weeks into it and for my usage, I've had little problem with Vista's supposed oddities; for some reason, I find being able to see your window stacks in 3-d, and the transparent frames way cool. I may have issues though...

I know this has nothing to do with much but it's kinda interesting. Ween played in hawaii on monday and they broke out "Dark Star" as one of their encores. They actually went into it in the middle of one of their tunes called "Johnny On The Spot". Funny cause that is a fast paced tune. Apparently they jammed out of it into Dark Star then sang the Johnny On The Spot lyrics Garcia style. Can't wait to hear that shit. Of course I don't know one single taper that went....HA HAAA!!!

Brand new Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. When ordering, I selected for the optical drive "8X CD/DVD+RW Read and Burn CD and DVD". Laptop arrived today, I popped in a DVD and I get the message "DVD Region Error: unable to play this DVD because it does not match the region code of your disc player". The DVDs I tried are all region 1 DVD's that I've played numerous times in other players. When I investigate the region and setting, the dell says "Region(s) supported by this disc: US, Canada". Any suggestions? Obviously I'm no techie but it seems like I paid alot to not have one of the basic functions for which I bought the thing not functioning.

Right on John....see you there! Yeah sk, how could I ever forget that. I knew that anniversary was today or tomorrow. That was one hell of a night. It took us about 7 hours to get home. We had to detour around our normal "back way" route. We didn't do the George Washington Bridge. We took the Tappen Zee. We had to get on the Nj parkway to the NJ turnpike. I remember Peter was sleeping in the back Kel and I forged ahead. Then this dude in a black montey carlo flew past us. I said "see ya down the road in a ditch.....jackass"! Not 3 miles down the road the monty was face 1st in a ditch on the side of the gspw. The ass end standing straight up. The guy looking at it scratching his head. We laughed so hard we woke up Peter. So we cruised on. It getting worse and worse the further south we got. By the time we hit the PA turnpike the snow was really piling up. We made it home and turned on the news. They made the announcement "The PA turnpike is closed." We all looked at each other and said "wooooo hoooo we conquered the blizzard of 93"!!! HA HAAA!!! From what I remember the show was pretty good too...HA HAAAA!!!!

overall, positive experiences for me one way or another. Not tell you about the last time I tried it...toke, it's the only time I've ever felt at a circulatory level, you feel it spreading out from the lungs, until it inhabits your whole body to your fingertips...then *absolutely* immobile on the couch, couldn't move if your life depended on it... then the fun began... I felt like I was being sliced up like cake (obviously no blood or pain or anything like that but at a body/molecular level; perhaps measured disintegration is a better term for it), starting from the fingertips and working back to the torso and in the head, I had a panic, that if the slicing caught up to me, well, I would not exist anymore as me, and when I got back I would be somebody else... this feeling was intensely real...someone else termed it "chasing the ego", which is exactly correct, it was just my ego being chased... but I tell you, when I started to come back, I could start hearing, then I could start seeing (this world and this reality), and finally after years, seemingly, I could start moving my fingers and then later my whole body. I was pretty happy about that! I also found for the next few weeks that I was very calm about most things, probably due to the lessened ego. So there you have it, one experience.
Stretchy
- Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 13:18:37 (EDT) [64.252.28.196]
*very* intense, not a party drug, moreso than not, people i know who tried it don't like it...poses no threat to teenagers because of that...it's somewhat like plant deemmmmteee...to be done inside at your place with a friend, because if you toke a large enough does, you and your body part company...depending on where your ego is, it'll try to kill it, so be prepared. this is the 10x concentrate stuff...just the natural dried leaves produces much lesser effect...

In about 5 or 6 seconds I experienced hours/days/years worth of... life?... something... kinda too serious to do often, well, depending on what strength you get, but I think I might try it again... Today’s Player Profile: Lyman Bostock – We’ll never kow how great a player Lyman was to become. He was tragically gunned down after his 4th season in the majors. Lyman looked to be the 2nd coming of the great Rod Carew, a line drive hitter who sprayed the ball all over the park. He hardly ever walked or struck out. He averaged about 15 steals a year and was considered to be a great defensive outfielder. Lyman ended his 4 year career with a .311 batting average.

I'm really wishing I got my Eastover tickets earlier. I called for a room for two today and they were pretty much sold out. There are really only rooms available for 3 - 5 people. I had to stay in the rooms across the street from the main grounds. It's really only a five minute walk from the mansion, but I like to be in the center of things. Oh well. Lesson learned for next year. One should never procrastinate when it comes to Eastover. Any one who plans to go and has not made reservations yet, it is time to get on it. The place sells out every year.

I went to school at UMASS amherst. It is definitely the college kids that account for the arrests. It is far from a criminal area. As Derek said, there is alot more going on in Northampton, however, the outskirts of Amherst and the surrounding towns are more rural. It is really beautiful around there. I think it would be a great place to live.

Chiming in with the Amherst boosting... I think Derek's on the money about UMass's crime situation. The campus itself gets pretty rowdy, and as far as I know has a long history of rowdiness. But if you stay off campus and out of a handful of bars that cater to the frat boy crowd, you can pretty much safely ignore it... As for Spitzer, he didn't launder money to pay for it. He made some maneuvers with his own money that were entirely legal, but raised red flags. He did stuff that LOOKED like money laundering, but wasn't money laundering. That said, the guy has hubris written all over him in tell-foot day-glo letters. He was elected with a huge mandate, managed to squander a lot of it by picking needless & needlessly dirty fights with powerful people in Albany, and just threw the rest of it out the window with this idiotic stunt. Hopefully, Lt. Gov. Patterson will pursue the same reform agenda more calmly, quietly, and effectively.

I'm willing to bet that 95% of the "crimes" are minors w/alcohol, drunk driving, parties/noise disturbances, unlicensed kegs, low level possesion charges.. and the occasional brawl, which rarely involve random victims. I've never heard that "highest in the nation" bit either. In actuality its a button-down, uptight, beautiful little town with a giant university and a small college dominating its center

The problem isn't that he paid for hookers (c'mon, who doesn't)... the problem is that he laundered the money to do it. (That's the big no-no) If only he paid by check it would have been a simple misdemeanor... but rather now he's facing felony charges instead. Dumb ass!!!

there's a humongous concentration of zany kids and a really zealous police force (town AND college) who like to lock 'em up. But Amherst and the area as a whole is really a very very nice place to live. I spent yesterday afternoon flyering around Amherst and it was pleasant as ever. This is one case where the stats don't tell the story.. visit, you'll see. Its not a "crime area" as you'd ever think of one, but they ring up DUIs by the dozen and on weekends get some bar fights (= more arrests). All told though, its a great area, total college town

Amherst question: So thinking about relocating to the Amherst area but have a question. For those of you in the area, do you have any input on why UMASS Amherst has one of the highest crime rates in the nation? Is this a reflection on the area or just the campus? Much abliged for any info.

SALTY & KEL………….today is the 15th anniversary of the legendary 3/12/93 show at buster’s in east hartford. It was a Friday night show, and the weather was calling for a huge NorEaster to hit on Saturday morning. And huge it was, a monster snow storm blanketing the northeast. I think you guys shoved off at like 3 in the morn and hit the storm around NY and drove into the teeth of it…………how many hours did it take you to get home from the GW Bridge? Tommy, were you at that show? In fact, was there anybody out here who was at that show?
