3 weekday shows on consecutive nights, thanks again derek, just like when kel and sarah and poz were seeing del mccoury band, they turned me on to del, now i love him and see him as often as i can, it will be the same thing with steve earle, front row center last night, this guy is a song writing legend and one of the most honest, sincere performers i've ever seen. his songs really touched me, it's like he's reaching into your very soul. and a long show too, 2:16, that's a huge set for acoustic, solo music.

sk bittorrent is a form of file sharing where you download the show, and then share it back out to others who are also downloading the show. etree.org should have info on how to do it, and what programs you would need.

a faster and cheaper way of course, is to transfer the contents of your DAT tape to your stand-alone CD burner... indexing as you go. Or you can burn a single WAV file onto CD ( if it's a long set which it usually is, you have to burn two CDs, and then merge them on the computer)... and then start the software as below
Stretchy
- Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 13:54:12 (EST) [129.133.22.97]
Translating your shows on DAT to CD is more involved. In order to get a clean digital signal from your digital output on the DAT into your computer, you first need some hardware which will take a digital signal and place it on your computer. This hardware may either be a separate computer card ( you open up your computer case and insert this card into an empty slot, and then the optical or coaxial line from your DAT goes into the card inputs on the back of your computer), or a USB2 device ( optical or co-axel from the DAT to the USB-2 device which plugs into a USB port on your computer). Additionally, you will need software which will capture the digital information coming from either device. There are several programs out there, some cheap, some pricey, some incredibly expensive. Often, the same software which captures the output from your DAT is also used to edit the show. Once all of the data from the DAT is transferred to your computer, it's usually in a single large WAV file, for the entire set. Now you must break up that WAV file into individual tracks... but before that, you may do several things, for example normalize the entire set to make it louder ( because it's OK to record at low levels with DAT), etc... also you must be on the lookout for technical glitches, pops, crackles, equipment plug-ins, balloons popping, digital noise (the scourge)... or not, depending on how much time you want to invest. After all of this you name the tracks and decide how many CDs it fits on. Then you can burn it! oh, and then you need to make CD labels. If you're a perfectionist like I am, it is a long and arduous process... which is one of the reasons my output has slowed by 99%. Check the archive to make sure no one else has already uploaded that show.

one of the most fascinating players and engaging personalities in the history of the game was Luis Tiant. the cigar chomping el tiante posted a career record of 229 - 172, a winning percentage of .571. Luis completed what he finished, he had 187 complete games, 49 shut outs. here's a great stat: approx. 3500 innings pitched and only 3,075 hits allowed, career ERA = 3.30.

sk, that's a loaded question. First, archive.org has well over 30,000 shows a different artists... for each artist you can sort by date of the show, or date added... I prefer date of the show. then, for each show you are shown a little summary, and it's there it will say whether it's a soundboard or an audience...and a rating by stars. Sometimes it pays to check by looking into each show and checking out what people say. Lots of times for dead shows there are multiple copies with different microphones, so you can take your pick. A lot of the shows you can do what is called streaming which is located at the upper left of the screen, whereupon you can just play the show to your computer right now and there's no downloading. If you want to download you can download the entire show in a compressed format, usually zipped, to your hard drive. When the download is finished you can unzip the show into individual tracks. These tracks are further compressed, usually by FLAC (file lossless audio codec)... then you need the FLAC tool to uncompress them into what you and I listen to, the WAV files. Then you can listen to them on your computer. If you want to burn the WAV files to a CD, you need a CD burning program. There are several, I love Feurio, it's simple and quick. There are some that are horrible, avoid Roxio like the plague, for example.

No real idea about that, SK. I'm guessing, though, that you'd have to encode your music in either FLAC or SHN formats, then upload it to the archive... but I could be totally off base on that one. Ask Stretchy, FriBri, or PZen.

yeah, basically you'd get a sound card/interface that takes a s/pdif in, then you can do a digital transfer in real time by recording it on the computer. then you need to break it in to tracks. it's not hard, just time consuming.

i'm a novice, what is stream only? as far as download, where do i download it to, like on my hard drive? then i make it into a CD? i guess i should read the directions or have stretch or bri over to help me. are these shows sbd's or aud's, if aud's do they tend to be high quality? i have a friend who uses etree.org, are they similar? it was so much easier getting a casette that simply said, 2nd gen sbd no dolby, or 1st gen aud dolby........gone are the days

Jardale knows who this is. Ive assisted him in many walks of life, including making him the greatest teacher on earth and pissing him off by constantly yelling "let the drummer play!" at various shows. I am making a triumphant return to Rochester tomorrow and I and a couple Jesuit friends will be disappointed if we don't see him at the show.

when you say check it out on the archive, where exactly is that? i just had installed my first evah home computer last sunday and i haven't checked out anything but porn since then. 1978 had some brilliant shows but overall was weak, this was a band in transition about ready to fire 2 members, same in 1979 but with some renewed energy when brent joined but lots of the same tunes were being played. 1980 - 1981 was good, and i loved the rest of the 80's except for 1988 (lackluster spring shows, great summer shows, okay fall shows)

Sk thats alot of Dead shows. I was talking to someone last month about the dead and he had a few stories and one of them was some kid backstage for the first time and the kid saw Jerry backstage. So he is all excited and goes up to Jerry and tells him I love the Grateful Dead so much I've been to over 200 shows!!! Jerry looks at him and says kid I've been to all of them and turns around and walks away. I laughed my ass off at that. Classic Garcia comment.

beating a dead horse, the east coast is way more intense than the west coast, and the GD generally played better up here b/c the fans pushed harder, 3 nights at the greek, then 3 nights at shoreline then 3 nights at palo alto, ho hum, more perfect weather and it's nice to hear the GD play everything is beautiful it doesn't matter how well they play, as to up here, a so-so night was usually followed up with a killer show b/c the fans pushed them harder, believe it or not i have a stat sheet starting from 1980, all the GD shows i went to and the letter grade I gave them (no minuses or plusses) and some years were juct incredible, 1983 for example, 20 out of 26 shows i saw were A shows, the last year i was over 50% A's was 1991, 12 out of 21, their record after that was pretty much like Kei Igawa's record with the yankees last year!

Was listening to my AUD recording of Ween the other day from that Mountain Aire show. Just incredible quality. My deck had died, so I bought sk's D8 and Beyers mics with me. Wasn't around much for recording (Chris Kuroda even let me do lights for Trey so he could take a break...WOW!!), so I ended up letting this great guy run the deck off his mics. I wanna say they were Alpine's??? not sure at all. Was only one "box" on top of his stands, may have been two mics in that box, dont know, but just the most incredible quailty of a AUD recording I have ever done (coming out of Cookie Monster Jack's mics for CPR at Camp 2000 is a very close 2nd). You almost swear it is a board tape. Everything from John Prine to Les sounds just sooooo sweet!!!

Ahhhh... I LOVED Mountain Aire! It was 2001 I believe. What a GREAT but smaller festival than High Sierra. That was a craaaazy weekend. Claypool put on one hell of a party, I'll tell you what! haha The difference I found there was that WestCoasters are SOOOOOO much more quiet than EastCoasters. We seem to rage harder. We party harder, sing louder, stay up later, play music longer. Hell yeah! Everyone at that show was asleep while standing up... Even during WEEN?!?. I just couldn't understand it. I never knew 1000's of people could make so little noise. During the late night bonfire, I was amazed at all the sleepwalkers. Thank god Sufi busted out the kazoo... someone had to wake those people up before they fell into the fire. hee hee hee. Just then Enor showed up with his musical troup and brought some life back to the party. She's to blame for starting that jam. haha We even tried to get them to burn the giant Phoenix, but they refused. Fire hazard my arse. Good times. Makes me JONES for Camp Creek and the summer sun. ohboy ohboy ohboy...

pz, here's a good one for ya if you like ymsb: http://www.stringsummit.com/, the venue is beautiful, picture camp creek's stage, but much less wide, same kind of hill in back and surrounded by trees, it makes it much more intimate, the weather is never hot & humid in oregon and you can fly into either portland, or, under an hour away, or seattle, was about 2.5 hours away, whichever is cheaper. go a day or two earlier and check out the oregon shoreline, especially cannon beach.

EPA GIVES FACTORY FARMS RIGHT TO IGNORE POLLUTION LAWS
The EPA is accepting public comments until March 27, 2008 on an outrageous proposal to eliminate clean air standards for factory farms. Federal laws currently require industry of any type to report hazardous substances they are spewing into the atmosphere, but according to the EPA, factory farms should be exempt so as to "to reduce the burden on the regulated community." It's time to tell the EPA to stop allowing factory farms to poison the air in our rural communities.

just looking up some stats on some really good players who ended their careers in the 70's, rico carty ended up with a .299 career averabe, one more hit and one less at bat and he's a .300 career hitter, tony oliva, ended up at .304, bad knees derailed him from a HOF career, then there's al kaline, a truly great player and a HOF who sits for eternity on 399 career homers. he remarked just a couple of years ago that if he knew now how much it would bother him he would have played the next season until he hit 1 more homer

red stick ramblers are a great zydeco band (among other things). Saw them last sat night in Cranston (before the livingroom) and last year they hosted rhythym & roots in Charleston. It would be nice to have a little zydeco at camp.

I've been listening to one of Neil Young's Old Princeton Landing shows from 1996. This particular show has a fantastic acoustic Crazy Horse rendition of "Look Out For My Love." That might be a good song for the Creek to try out...

well i saw the red stick ramblers last night and liked them a lot. short show, 84 minutes, but only 8 dollah. 2 fiddle players, upright bass, drums and electric guitar, interesting combo. they would make for a nice fit at camp, those boys can't be making a lot of money.

HA HAA!!! Good point Carl. I don't tape and come to every show anymore. That's what happens when you live in PA and start a band. It's not like every gig is 4 plus hours away. Oh wait....it is like that. My bad...HA HAAA!!! Why does this all seem so familiar? Hmmmmmmm.....;) So Carl, tell me...will YOU be at Eastover? And if you are will you catch the afternoon jams this year? Or will you be painting your toe nails again? If so, don't worry I'll keep track of the Creek's setlist.

i guess they are known for playing great cumberlands in springfield, can't remember, but it was either the 1972 or 1974 cumberland in springfield in june which i rate as the best ever, it's explosive and it's rock n roll, blues, jazz and bluegrass all in one song! they were a pretty good band the grateful dead.

Yeah Wavy, Johnny pubes can be the moderator...HA HAAA!!! That'd work great! Thing is you really can't compare the GOTV page to this one. Waaaay more people on that site. Like 10 times the amount but whatever I ain't looking to argue over this because it's pointless and not up to us. Just giving my opinion. I go and hang on the Ween forum all the time. It's a threaded site. Much more freedom on there. A lot of jackasses too. You get to learn who they are real fast. You'll have that anywhere. It's just way more in your face on here because you have to scroll past ever post. Let's face it, if you scroll past it you're gonna read it. The only thing that bothers me the most on this forum is when people start trashing individual band members or get all snotty about tapers not showing up at shows. Stating your opinion is one thing but I believe that can be done without being a jackass. nowhati'msayin'?

ok, i gotta throw in my .02...i totally disagree with the threaded board. i've gone to the GOTV boards before and it's waaaaaaay too time consuming to read the posts. and the headlines are very deceiving sometimes. this forum is great just the way it is. if you don't like what someone has to say you can simply scroll by and ignore it. of course, that's prolly cuz i know i'd be one of the ones banned

Salty moderator? I can only imagine where that will end up. I think we need to find the guy w his pants hanging off w tuffits showing from Salty's gig a few years back to run the forum. But on a serious note i decided to sell my body. I just learned that my company will give me $50 for 100ml of blood. Much like an Acura I am worth more in parts than as a whole.

ffsteve, imo, it's a great idea, and you should run with it. I do think that an open 'town meetin' concept has some flaws, namely inappropriate questions, and controlling subject matter the band/crew may not wish to tread on. But with the right moderator, such as Salty or Lee or even ERIC, ya never know, the band could go for it. Coordinate a compromised idea that meets your goal of a Creek interview with an accumulation of fan based input, and you have your hands full with a project due in 3 months. :) . I would email ERIC in private and get real feedback. Seriously. And good luck.

Hey no offense taken here. I just disagree. I enjoy threaded web sites. You can post pictures on them, use html, put videos up. Remember how cool the Camp Creek website was? I really miss that. It just takes a little getting used to. Plus, the best part. You can ban individual people without shutting down the whole site. Just my opinion for what it's worth. All I know is the "jackass" factor has been up lately and it's getting really old! nowhati'msayin?
