if we're talking about hbo shows don't forget Carnivale or Curb Your Enthusiasm. on the deadwood/foul language thing -- the creators of the show orignally planned on using foul language from the 1870's but they changed it to contemporary vulgarity because the characters all sounded like Yosemite Sam.

yeah I used to really dig Deadwood also..the characters were awesome..the great use of foul language..whores, whiskey, gambling..and the fact that it brought the western "era/genre" back for a minute (though 3:10 to Yuma was f'en great..movie though)

Not like Deadwood? Calamity Jane: “I'm calling on the widow and the little one in her care, and if I was you I wouldn't try to stop me." EB Farnum: "Be brief." Calamity Jane: "Be Fucked!" EB Farnum: "Her gutter mouth, and the widow in an opium stupor. A conversation for the ages.”
It's not John Wayne, but now that's a western.

The Wire never did it for me either...and I tried it a few times as well. Entourage is a great show, really exposes the greed and how self-centered hollywood elites can be. I used to like Six Feet Under A LOT too... was my favorite for a while. Big Love is a great show too...and I generally don't like "Dramas". We all know about The Sapranos. HBO originals kick ass. I have tries In Treatment... does seem slow...and I never really liked Deadwood either. Can't like 'em all I guess.

If you're reading this today Pickle...There are hotel rooms upstairs from Zeno's (Zeno's is located in the Hotel State College in the middle of downtown). They're rustic but nice and the price is right! If you're staying over, park in the Hamilton Street Garage, (to avoid ticketing)...it's only a two minute walk from the bar. If you care to drink, watch out...State College Police are everywhere at night. Have a blast!

IMHO Entourage is the only real good primetime eyecandy on Hbo now..and Curb..but that goes without saying..Jeremy Piven's character Ari is priceless. the Wire never caught my attention for some reason..gave it a day in court too..I got my eye on that In Treatment show..love the concept and the actors/actresses on it..but seems slow to me..to quote Jahwoody..YMMV

Just saw on the news that these "$600 rebate" checks that we are getting are actually a "advace" on your 2009 tax return, so next year, you can expect a lot less on your taxes. My god, what will GW do next...just think, one year from now we won't have asshole in office, unless we can get somebody to pick him off earlier, which would be such a godsend!

Friday is just a drive home day, and that can even happen on Saturday. Off at 4:30am tomorrow, so if you see this later then I will see it, make a post to JM and he will call me. I don't think you can measure being a true Creek freak by where you've seen them. I think it has to do with what important life events you've blown off for Creek shows... birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, college graduation (I skipped mine to go to Bucksteep), major Jewish holidays, funerals...

He was a wierdo/pompass f*ck, but I am glad I was able to catch a bunch of gigs there in spite of his proclamation. I guess that's like saying you are not a real Creek freak unless you saw then at the Agora..which is as equally as riduculous, but fun to chat about. How would you finsh that statement...your not a complete Creek freak unless youve seen them at.....

One day long ago I remember someone saying something that caught my attention. He said, "The 1st section of the newspaper I read is the sports because it tells of human achievements and success unlike most of the rest of the newspaper.” Sadly these days of steroids, gambling, spygate-like issues and on and on that is no longer true. Therefore the comics is now the best part of the newspaper I would have to say!

sweens .. I thought Clemens is under investigation for use after the Yankees won their last WS, maybe I am wrong. So which of the Yanks 26 WS would be in jeopardy, just the 1 or 2 when Clemens was on the team before his alleged use took place. Eric Gagne is in the Mitchell report. Does that put the Sox 2007 WS in jeopardy.

My first one there, I coudn't believe that I could charge drinks and food on my credit card at the bar while standing 15 feet away from the band. AAAHH!!! That F'N trumpet player!!! That guy ruined what started out to be a smokin' IYAM. I still remember standing there when x went into it and I was psyched because up to that point I thought the show had been kinda mellow. That is the perfect tune to pick a show up and kick it into high gear. It was cranking along and then out walked that trumpet played and BAM!!! Brick wall!!! Brutal. I was standing there in disbelief and some guy behind me summed it all up with a loud resounding "What the F*@K?!?!?!" That actually made me laugh. Ahhhhh..... good times, good times. (I'm sure someone will come along now and say that was the best IYAM ever)

"I was born Feb. 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. My parents were both born in Virginia, of undistinguished families--second families, perhaps I should say. My mother, who died in my tenth year, was of a family of the name of Hanks.... My father ... removed from Kentucky to ... Indiana, in my eighth year.... It was a wild region, with many bears and other wild animals still in the woods. There I grew up.... Of course when I came of age I did not know much. Still somehow, I could read, write, and cipher ... but that was all."

No surprise there, Ed. What I meant is that collectors today don't know that, at the time, seems there was rarely a consensus what kind of show it was. There were shows that by all counts, the band was having an utterly crap night: sick, pissed at each other, seemingly not synched, or whatever, but then listening to the night later, the playing was just over the top. Or out front, we'd think it was a great set, and then go back at the break and "Hey, great show, eh?" and they'd look at me like I was insane. No way to know. Go figure...

A guy goes to the supermarket and notices an attractive woman waving at him. He's rather taken aback because he can't place where he knows her from. So he says, "Do you know me?" To which she replies, "I think you're the father of one of my kids." Now his mind travels back to the only time he has ever been unfaithful to his wife and says, "My God, are you the stripper from my bachelor party that I made love to on the pool table with all my buddies watching while your partner whipped my butt with wet celery???" She looks into his eyes and says calmly," No, I'm your son's teacher."

not sure how else I could have asked that question without sounding unappreciative - open to ideas. I AM thankful and in no way am criticizing anyones efforts. I am absolutely certain that the tapers spend a crazy amount of time and crazy amount of their own money to do what they do. I did not expect the tapers (ed?) to pull that cash out of his pocket to get that done, but only wondered what something like that costs and if there was a way for a community of fans to support such an effort; if it was feasible and reasonable or even possible. I would consider myself part of that community and would help. But, please Stretchy, don't make me out to be some a$$hole.

mm, I think everybody hated the Campus Club. My point is that, despite that, the shows were really hot there. And rochguy, these shows were recorded onto audio cassettes. There's only so much that can be done (and I can't even do that much lol). just be thankful there were tapers willing to record them at all.

A couple, no, wait - three - things: 1) Happy birthday Mr Costa. You guppy. 2) for the record, I edumicated same in audio basics, "monitor world", and how to ignore band member's wishes politely in the name of a good show; DJ used to watch me mix the band at that place in New Britain (what was that...?) and I explained how to him how I politely ignored the wishes of the band in the name of good show; DJ eventually passed his aggregated wisdom to Costa about Creek Front of House, creating the true mutant you see today out front; and, C) all these stellar Campus Club show recordings? What is up with that!? Are we talking the same band/venue? As I recall (and I have been known to be wrong, however infrequently...), the band and crew - how shall I put this delicately - pretty much HATED that room. Just goes to show ya whatever it goes to show ya. And thanks for doing what you do Ed.

cant get over how hot Signature is on that 11/27/91 show. WOW. I have seen some back and forth about tapers and such. PLEASE understand... I am grateful for what they do and understand it is a labor of love and there is real work involved that may go underappreciated by some. So this question is NOT in regard to the effort by those invididuals that I reap the rewards and I dont even know who they are.. Thank You all. So.. question... does aanyone have any idea what it would cost to get some of these tapes remastered so they sound even better. When I listen to that 11/27/91 show in my car it sounds fine enough... but when played on my higher end home system.. still incredibly enjoyable... but tthe better system does expose the imperfections inherent in this type of situation. Can only imagine how Signature would sound "cleaned up" or whatever the terminology is... Is this the subject of some Maxology questions?... Love to have a definitive boxed set of all-time tunes digitally remastered... ahh... to dream

I'm just an average man with an average life.
I work from 9 to 5, hey hell, I pay the price.
All I want is to be left alone, in my average home.
But why do I always feel.
Like I'm in the Twilight Zone? and...
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy, whoa-oa-oa.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Tell me, is it just a dream.

Re: Guitar question...
When I was younger I would have said EVH. Still like Eddie, but as I got older shifted to SRV. Honestly, Scott has moved way up my list of faves as well. So.. I'm gonna create my own favorite sound by blending 3 guitar players that I think are complementary, but bring their own uniqueness. I don't think you can automatically combine your faves and expect a great sound, but throw these 3 in a blender and give me a drink of it so I can play like that and I'd be the happy forever...
SRV - greatest blues player ever. As Clapton once said... the music just flowed thru him as if he wasnt even consciously thinking of it.. he was just a conduit of it.
Scott - we all know what we like here... great combination of jamminess, soul, intensity, beauty w/ a side of bluegrass/country.
David Gilmour - so lyrical.
