Since DBB still had their gear already on the truck they decided to move their Boston gig more local. My backyard! haha I can't help myself... had to make the few mile trek through the cold rain and snow... and sooooooooo worth it!!! A phenominal funk fest at its best! Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Safe travels. Favorite shows of 2007... Creek's Eastover, Gomez at Pearl Street, Ween at the Nokia, Wolfmother at the Webster and everything I saw at Bonnaroo & GOTV. Amongst a few others...

Mornin! It makes us western NY folk laugh to hear y'all whining about how far you have to drive to see Creek! ;-) I'd have to hop on the Sterling bandwagon for BSOTY. That junk was the shizzle.

A girl who had just gottten into her first Grateful Dead show, was stuck way in the back of the stadium, up in the nose bleed section. Just as the second set starts, she spots an empty seat in the front row. Using her Jedi mind tricks, she makes her way down to the front row. After a couple songs, she turns to the guy next to her and says "Wow, what a great seat! I can't believe someone gave it up!" The man answers "Actualy, that was supposed to be my wife's seat, but she passed away." "I'm so sorry," the woman answers, "Why didn't you bring a friend to be with you?" To this he replies "Oh, they're all at the funeral."

Two elderly couples are having dinner together. The women are in the kitchen preparing dinnner, whil the men are sitting in the living room talking. "You know, last night we went out to eat, and I had the best steak I've ever eaten," says the first old man. "Really? Where did you go?" asks the second old man. "Geez, my memory is shot," the first old man replies, "Let's see....what's the name of that flower that smells really nice?" he continues. "Rose?" his friend answers. "Yeah that's it! Hey Rose, what was the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

(am I wrong or did he have sort of a limp/back issues, always smilin, off the booze, pony tail, scruffy beard, etc.?)

Three old ladies are sitting in a diner, chatting about various things. One lady says, "You know, I'm getting really forgetful. This morning, I was standing at the top of the stairs, and I couldn't remember whether I had just come up or was about to go down."
The second lady says, "You think that's bad? The other day, I was sitting on the edge of my bed and I couldn't remember whether I was going to sleep or had just woken up!
The third lady smiles smugly, "Well, my memory is just as good as it's always been, knock on wood," she says as she raps on the table. Then with a startled look on her face, she asks, "Who's there

hey all, happy snow!!! as for me, my favorite creek show this year was both nights of the wheelhouse, but i had fun all that weekend... and we arent counting hyland right, cause that place and those shows are always my favorite... favorite folk, not that you care, had to be harvest fest in maine, and favorite non creek/folk show was harvest fest in new york... that weekend is always a great time, even if you miss most of the music...

Wait, I did forget a couple of really good non-Creek shows... Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen at the Horse in January... Natalie McMaster and Los Straightjackets (separately) at Rhythm & Roots... That's about all I can think of at the moment, but there may have been others. A year's a long time.

Feel like I've hardly seen Creek this year... I'm thinking Friday at Eastover might have been my favorite, although I seem to remember a really good acoustic/electric show at Hoops last February... Haven't seen all that many non-Creek shows either... Charlie Hunter Trio, Dumpstafunk, and King Wilkie, all at the Iron Horse... Danny Barnes at the Rodeo Bar... and Neil at the Orpheum... Of course, the year isn't quite over yet...

Two men in white coats and another guy carrying two buckets of sand are chasing her, and a little old man is bringing up the rear.
One of the golfers grabs the old man and says, " What's going on?"
The old guy says, "She's a nymphomaniac from the asylum, she keeps trying to escape, and us attendants are trying to catch her."

Hmmm who else. I have some inkling for a few. This will just scratch the surface. Id bet over half of em do. Ortiz? The Giles brothers...Troy Glaus. Both Zambranos (Carlos and Victor)...Wish I could bet on this somewhere...Papelbon? Obv Grimsley and the others who have already been named. Armando Benitez? (ya think?) Jorge Julio...stiffs, who've hung around will make up the majority I'd guess.

Assuming what Tina said about him was even partially true, Ike Turner was a pretty hideous human being, at least at that time... but what a musician. But then, plenty of great musicians and other artists have done lousy things to the people around them. I think we can celebrate the art even if we condemn the artist for the other aspects of his/her life.

Great time to go to Costa Rica to catch a show or two. Jaco beach area is a surf haven during the winter. The people are great, providing you try to speak alittle espanol. I was there for a month long stint a long while back and in my broken spanish ordered what I thought was their national dish, however ended up ordering a whore over easy. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): A group of us decided to throw a party. The Sagittarian among us, Rosa, insisted on being in charge of supplying the desserts. She feared that if anyone else handled this task, there wouldn't be enough, and they wouldn't be sweet enough or rich enough
or decadent enough. To make sure the delectable treats were available in rapturous abundance, she felt she could only trust herself. In this spirit, I appoint you to be the sweet, rich, decadent dessert-provider for the entire world in the coming weeks. I'm using "desserts" in both the literal and metaphorical senses. ~rob brezsny

Thanks for the info/advice everyone. I'll be with 3 others, so it sounds like by getting there early we should be able to get parking fairly close...so we'll give that a shot rather than trying to hook-up and switch-off, etc (thanks for the offer, much appreciated).
Hopefully I won't fall down the stadium stairs and break my other damn leg. I have found that crutches can be quite interesting to use after a good round of drinking, lol.

Patriots fans of Creekland, a coupla questions....how early do you need to arrive at Gillette Stadium to get parking as close as possible? I am recovering from a broken foot, am still on crutches, supposed to go to the Jets game this Sunday. Am I nuts? Is this do-able? Or will I have to hobble 2 miles and climb 20 flights of stairs? Any input would be appreciated. Have never been to the new Stadium.

Strange coincidence, I was at that DSO show at Toad's Place on thursday. The wharf Rats had a food donation table set up, being from the area, I took a quick walk to buy them a few things. They were giving out CDR's for the donations, I picked out a Max Creek one, not noticing the date. Turns out it was Camp Creek 2002, the night w/Tina & Chris (Talking Heads) on "Life During Wartime", easily one of Max Creeks finest moments in my eyes. I've been seeing the band on & off since 1984, and that was one of the shows that always stuck in my mind. I'm really grateful to the Wharf Rats at that show thursday, it's really great to hear some things again. The disc said one of three, if anyone has the other 2/3's, I'd love to make a trade. I have about 400 or 500 hrs of stuff, I'm working on a new list, but what I have is pretty well memorized. Lastly, planing to make it to "Hoops & Hops" saturday, chances are I will. If anyone from the new haven area needs a ride to the early show, send an email. We'll see what we can work out, there's two seats left in the vehicle. Thanks to all involved for 20+ years of shows and good times, Patrick

Hi Richard,
I remember the horrible story about how you lost your parents and sister in the car accident, and how you were working some awful clerk job and living in a rented room in West Hatford.
It has been a long time, welcome back. I was very concerned for you and your safety. You seemed so young and lost the last time we heard from you, now your not, you have found a direction. Congratulations!
It is a little odd thinking that our conversations with you helped too lead you down the path of being an accomplished sniper. Although we need those people too.
It can be an awful and bloody world out there. I know, I served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Hi everyone,
I just got back on leave for Christmas, and I wanted to say hi. It's been a long time.
Life in the Army is very different than what I had grown accustmed to back here. I really do thrive on the discipline.
First there was boot camp, and then, thankfully, I did make it into, and complete sniper school. I am not allowed to talk about what I have done since that point however. Let's just say that I have traveled a lot and have done my job very well. Think of the number 4.
I am trying to model my life (somewhat) after the book, Point of Impact. That book was the inspiration for the movie Shooter.
It is sometimes difficult for me to reconcile inside myself what I have done, and what I know I must, and will do again.
I actually belong to a professionaly led support group for guys like me. Do to our travel, often the meetings are conducted online. It really helps, it really teaches us how to turn our job on and off. That is absolutly critical, both at the time of the event, and afterwards. As we say, "hey, it ain't no regular day job."
I still sometimes long for my former life of non-interference that I led while I was back here, and sometimes do wish that I went to college to become a teacher. However I am very satisfied with the direction of my career.
It was through the many conversations on this board that I was able to find the resolve within myself to face the challanges, risks, and uncertainty of the unknown. It was only through testing myself and honing my abilities that I am now able to be of greater service to our country.
I have all of you who were so kind in your encouragements to thank for it. Thank you!
Lastly, as was written in the American civil war, "I have no misgivings or lack of confidence in the cause in which I am engaged. And my courage does not halt of falter. I know how American civilization now leans upon the triumph of the government. And how great a debt we owe to those who went before us.... And I am willing - perfectly willing - to lay down all my joys in this life to help maintain that government, and pay that debt."
Thank you for making me who I am,
Richard

Ya know Rochguy...I had the same thing happen to me at Steely Dan in Buffalo years ago. Except my tact was a little different. I asked the two guys if they'd gotten their tickets for free. They said "no...why?" I said "because I paid such and such dollars (whatever it was back then..not cheap for Steely Dan) for my ticket and I couldn't imagine paying that kind of money only to talk through an entire performance. They stopped talking after that.

it can be disappointing, but i agree mob tends to rule at shows... have a right to have fun, but we also have an obligation not to ruin other peoples fun.. it cuts both ways. like most things in life...not BW, part of being a grownup
also agree... FAR BIGGER deal is talking during shows... we dont accept it anywhere else- movies, theater... if you want to chat go to a bar and listen to the juke box.. I was at a Steely Dan show at a casino .. volume wasnt extremely loud and these 2 guys in front of me wouldnt shut up the whole time.. talkign about absolutely nothing (I wonder if they were coked up).. I finally told em to shut the fuKc up.

mauriceman I hear you. I never saw the dead back in the day, only when the scene was loud and rowdy, although Jerry shows were much quieter comparatively speaking. It always annoys the crap out of me when people talk during music, not giving their focus to the band. The phil shows in New York City were different, I believe Phil attracts a more respectful fan, there for the music and not for a "scene". During the entire run but especially for one show, the fans were quiet and moving... other than in between songs the place was quiet, just like old-school smiles says...and the sit down factor was minimal (although after the third straight show I was sitting down more myself :P).

This one in upstate VT was sick though, huge dancin area labeled DANCING AREA, added so much energy to the fest, and to the musicians/music, the old folk loved it, and felt so much more open to come over and dosey doe, and do there little 2 steppin. The idea of sitting for a whole concert is ridiculous. Having gone to probably 1000's of shows, I've been TOLD to sit down more times than not. I almost got in a fight with an overzealous bump on a log at a Bob Dylan show. He kept saying "don't you understand who is on stage?!" Then there was the MMW show at the Landmark! The security guy was embarassed to even come over to ROKK and Me. We were jammin out up front and the security dude brought our attention to the very pertentious angry group of stiffs glued to their seats behind us. I remember trying to convince security to use their tactics of intimidation to get the 100's of artsy fartsy bumps on a log to get up and have some kind of fun. This, of course wasn't going to fly. People of this kind obviously don't understand what they are missing. Too bad for them, too bad for the rest of US.

majority rules? is that what you're saying bosco? i don't think so. when i go to a concert it's because i like the artist and the music he/she plays. i don't SIT at home and listen to it, so why SHOULD i sit at the show? ...of course, i never really was a follower anyway.

i agree, there are times when sitting and listening are appropriate..but, then there are times when you're so into the music and you're feelin' it that you HAVE to move with it. how can you do that sitting down? like i mentioned before, the first set was very mellow. neil, alone on stage with his guitar, playing soft tunes, we sat and listened. that was the vibe then. but when the rest of the band came out and they started rockin' then you just couldn't stay seated. we were respectful right up to the last song (before the encore) then he kicked it up a couple notches and that's when all hell broke loose, and it started in the front. so, we weren't the only ones standing. there were scatterings of people here and there getting into the music. i'm just sayin' that for $200 we should be able to "feel" it in our own way.

Seems to me concert-goers should try to be flexible. Say you go to a show and everyone's sitting down. You should be OK with sitting down too. If someone comes to a Creek show expecting everyone to be seated, hopefully they'd be flexible enough to go with the flow, too.

Just for perspective... I remember (well, sort of...) Dead shows in the early Seventies were relatively quiet. Yes, really. No, not all the time; depended on the show... But many of the Aud and Board tapes I have from then seem to confirm it. At the end of tunes, of course there was lots of applause (what a concept), crowd noise, etc; but once they were into a tune - there was a focus; if you were down on the floor in the pudding, yes, you moved (or had to). If you were in the stands, it was because you wanted to sit (or had to) and listen. Either way when the band went out there - very little hooting, howling, no fucking shouts of "JERRY!" or what tune they should do next... (I personally think that only became popular after that guy yelled "Whipping Post!" on the Allmans Fillmore albums); either way, folks were absorbed in their own way by where the music was going because it was soooo right. By the '80's, that special moment seemed to have morphed into a bathroom break/hootfest. So much the pity.

f the people in front of me are standing and my view is obstructed, I stand too and if people behind me are sitting and hollaring I'll sit for a bit and see if they can get the folks in front of me to sit down to. If not, I say "sorry but...." and stand for the performance. If people in front of me are sitting, out of respect I sit too. I don't care how crazy the music is...unless the people behind me are up and I'm not blocking them. Simple. But...if the people in front of you are sitting and the people behind you are sitting and you're standing and dancing...well then...you're a dick.

thanks for the wishes...very thankful to have you all as friends...I remember my first taste of that was at a Steely Dan show at SPAC...
the entire front part of the lawn on the hill(the only area anywhere near the stage) was sitting down on the grass with their little picnic baskets!...Steely Dan had just reunited(93'?)...then I saw them in Buffalo a few months later...same thing...THEN, I had front row at a little Feat show in Canandaigua around the same time period...they tried to keep the whole shell sitting down for a LITTLE FEAT CONCERT!!...people kept popping up and dancing like jack in the boxes, and by the 4th song or so, the entire place was on their feet....I think in that situation, it has to be majority rules...if most people want to dance, people stand up and the sitters are out of luck...if it's mostly old farts with wine and cheese that want to sit down, the dancers are screwed...life's a bitch..

We've been told to sit down at Paul Simon, where we were told, "this is not a dancing song" and most recently at Ratdog. Told to sit at Bobby, cmon now!!

yeah, i hear ya murph...i'd say 80% of the crowd was over 55/60..and the people around us were sayin shit like "i hope he plays 'rockin in the free world' and 'harvest moon' etc...like they haven't heard any of neil's music past 1992! it was sad really.

Im with you Tammy... just make a dancing area is all we ask. They can sit and try not to fall asleep cause its past 8, and we can get ripped and dance like we got hot coals in our drawers. Shit Ive been told to sit the fuck down at the following: Willie Nelson, Bela Fleck, David Grisman, David Burne, AOD, and TOOL! But Ive also been personally thanks by peeps for adding to the energy at the following: Willie Nelson, Bela Fleck, David Burne, and Tool!!

i should have the mill street gig up soon. i've been using a different editing program since my old one doesn't work on vista and my trial ran out of the new sound forge. lumped a couple of songs together that should be seperate tracks but i've been kinda busy to work on it.

i musta missed the announcement to sit. i didn't mind sitting thru the soft acoustic portion of the show, but when he's up there rockin out i just can't contain myself! regardless of ticket price...the way i see it, if i'm payin $200 to see him i should be able to stand up if i choose to. but that's just me.

Internet Archive's search engine is spotty at best right now, but the feature "find items from year: ****" seems to be working. try that to find your shows.

Hey Carl. Interesting. One of the gang might remember better, but I seem to recall two issues of the vinyl DTS: the original pressing with the photo insert, "Keep This Card" etc, and then a reissue (later in the '80s?) without the inserts. Each time, the factory issued test pressings to check for quality before it went to final vinyl; no way to know where they came from, but these look to be from the second issue. The caveat. They could be the approved version or a version with flaws in the recording/vinyl. Either way - $99? Damn.

Neil's deal this tour seems to be that he wants people to sit. I saw one of the Boston shows, and before Neil came on, there was an announcement that he wanted everyone to be quiet during the songs, especially in the acoustic set, and only to make noise in between. The staff had orders not to seat anyone when Neil was actually playing, only between songs. Neil's a bit of a control freak... still, everyone at the Orpheum stood through the encores, and that seemed to be appreciated.

saw neil young last night at the chevrolet theatre ....very low key acoustic first set then the band came out and rocked the house! great show all around. too bad the audience couldn't get out of their chairs to enjoy it...that part sucked. we stood for the last few songs cuz we couldn't hold it in any longer. got alot of feedback from the folks behind us tho. whatever.
