That JAR from the last Lupo's with Gordon Stone on the pedal was my favorite - I listen to that when I want to get pumped up. Lupo's turned the lights on in the middle of the jam and that did not deter X at all- he just kept on going.....

both shows were over the top......i remember a wetlands show X pulled out the eletric gone so long...one of the first tunes that got me hooked on creeks sound! I remember hearing that tune on tapes eletric and saw a bunch of accoustic ones....but i think that was the first live eletric gones so longs i heard......ssssssssk

there so much wrong with what's going on that sometimes it's even hard to speak about it. let's start with the worst administration we've ever had in my lifetime...liars, cheats, and thieves have taken over, an extraordinarily complacent congressional branch does nothing. the executive branch wants us always to be at war with someone, thereby feeding into the fear and paranoia, and fattening their already tremendously fat pockets at the same time. we are a nation of extraordinary wasteful people...only a small percentage recycle and/or practice conservation. the next wars will not be fought over oil, but water...and we waste that like gangbusters. the dollar has never been lower, threatening its stance with the world as the dollar standard declines in importance with the other financial markets. if other countries start switching from the dollar standard to the euro (some are ready considering this), it will accelerate the US's slide. meanwhile the lame-duck is attempting a Mideast peace accord, which is stillborn because it doesn't invite all the players (Hamas and Iran, Syria), completely ignoring the huge fiscal mess made by ill-conceived tax cuts, war with a country that will have repercussions for 20 years, social services breaking down in every state, etc., etc., etc. Thank (insert your favorite deity here) for incredibly positive music (PHIL, Creek), and positive people in my life...

On that topic, I caught a snippet of Tom Freidman discussing oil dependence in a documentary. His take was that the oil crunch of the '70s put the fear of God in us, and we made some real strides towards increasing fuel efficiency, started driving smaller cars, etc. And then, OPEC lowered oil prices. By a lot. Cheap gas led to super-popular SUVs and pickup trucks. Increasing fuel efficiency and developing alternate fuels suddenly weren't cost effective. And here we are, basically screwed. Another argument for long-range government planning, perhaps?

yeah bosco .. destroying all that wildlife for a 3 month supply of energy is a brilliant idea. it makes much more sense than taking the 25 years overdue steps of forcing auto manufacturers to make cars that use alternative fuels. you'd think we woulda learned our lesson in the 70's.

I don't know, sweens... gone are the days when OPEC set the price and the oil companies just paid it... now we have these oil speculators bidding the price up. Considering how profitable those high prices are to the oil companies, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they at least "encouraged" these speculators (men like T. Boone Pickens) to bid up the price. If it were up to me, I would nationalize our own oil reserves, because we shouldn't have to pay $95 a bbl for our own oil.

sweens, I'm afraid you suffer from the illusion that we pay less for our own American oil. Sorry to disappoint you, but if we are paying $95/bbl for imported oil, we are also paying $95 for the oil that comes out of our own ground. The oil companies pump it, and sell it back to us at the international price. That's where they make all their money, not from gasoline. They'd make a good profit at $30/bbl... when they get $95, they are making obscene profits at out expense.

Funny you say that about the Labor Day show Stretchy because I was going to put that one down at first because that too is one of my favorites. The Yellow Moon and You write the book are two of the best versions I have heard but somehow I always seem to put in that July 4th show when I need a good fix. many say the commodity traders are driving the oil cost up up and up. Last year the traders got 23 billion in bonuses and those bonuses are projected to be 5% higher this yr. Question is when will enough be enough? Still no real public outrage. Do we drill here in the USA? alternative energy is novel but it wont happen over night. thank god for global warming as another mild winter is predicted here in the northeast

Not so much a break down, more that a lot of maintenance happening all at once. Including the timing belt. I could swear something else major had to be replaced, but then, I could be thinking of my current rig. (Which turns 20 next year!) Anyway, given the mileage you mentioned, Murph, probably a good idea to check and see if all of the standard 120 K stuff was done.

I disagree with the 120k breakdown thing. We had a '96 wagon for the kids that had 148k on it when we sold it to friends last Feb. I don't know what they have for miles on it now, but still no problems at all. Yes, find out about timing belt. Needs to be done every 60k (except for the 6cyl motors). If good body, and price is right, I would go for it for sure

Wow what an absolutely awesome week of music. ThanX so much to all of you guys. Wed. really kicked off big and just kept going. Saturday really was chock full of Xtra specialness the whole night. What a fantastic show tonight!!! The first set was very good by any standard, while the second was perhaps the hottest Creek set I've ever seen! Thanks a lot, guys!
