We need more Creek shows! Sorry to be blunt about it. I know, life can get in the way. Not that its a bad thing, just me wishing for MORE!

...its kinda like that company that made $100 million last year, and only made 75 this year. They say they lost $25 million. But did they lose 25, or did they actually make $75. I look at it as they made $75, be happy for that!...

On a Creek topic I notice a big change in the amount of shows and location. In 1999 we had over 70 shows covering 10 states and in ’97 we had 90 shows. This year including Nov and Dec you have about 30 shows in 4 states. Is this reflective of the NE Music scene as a whole or has the idea of opening into new areas gone. If you look back through the last 5 years we lose about 3-5 shows a year. So where do you think the train is heading?

On the Post-Rob discussion: I think that the music has jumped to a different direction since Rob passed (not better or worse, just different). I think the rest of the band has been trying to fill that gap with more intense jams that seem to lead in all sorts of directions. It may be concious or unconcious on their part, but I can diffinately hear a big difference in the instrumental parts since Rob's departure.

nice ax's...WAYYYYYY overpriced. I have watched Musicians on ebay for years...and sold/bought a bunch as well. It's amazing...prices are up 100% in like THREE YEARS. In 2002 I sold a '79 MC500 Carved top and back for $1200...NOW that axe would fetch $2500 easily. SCARY!

Telepathy... I like the magical connotation of that, but really it comes down to experience and listening. The guys know each other so well, yes, but I still watch them try to surprise each other, playfully or even aggressively sometimes...
The Stone Church show, it took a few tunes to get their heavy groove on, but when it came together, there was Rider - right up near Scott - Mark watching them both intently while his hands just danced - their riff exchanges are always so much fun to listen to, but when you see their focused intensity on the building of a tune... no words, you know?

I think the telepathy of the whole band has increased over the years. The textures are so wonderful. Its something I hear in the earlier stuff, but has come so far in that time that it shows up in practically every song. Also, everyone's individual instrumental proficiencies has improved, leading to longer and better jams, interesting segues, and just a whole pile of good stuff. I am jazzed to get home and listen to some Creek! I have many thoughts about Creek and various other famous jam bands but I won't bore you all with that stuff.

I agree Derek. I saw the two of them at Sully's a couple years ago and I was AMAZED. It was as if they could read each other's minds. And if you ever feel like Mark's keys aren't always overly defined in the overall mix of a Max Creek show, then this is an opportunity to really listen to him out front and showcased.

HB ya oughta! I was just marveling at their chemistry the other night, I found it much more intense in a club than outdoors at Hyland (maybe a daylight/distraction factor for me, I dunno).. the way they KNOW each other like hand and glove, and all that space to fill with just the two instruments, it goes OFF!

MM said someone had mentioned to him that Creek's style from years past was maybe more "earthy" than their later style, which was described as more "slick" - not sure if that means "post Rob Fried", or if just reflects their changing approach to tunes or even sets... I do recall the way the band's sound had more space in it and funked more often than recent years (some shows anyway), yet I like the jazzier element that seems to be their way lately...

Hey Ed... It's worth going to the afternoon show because of what they play for the folks who go to it... especially w/kids in tow... special stuff!
it's great fun with the carols and creekchristmas type tunes and holiday jamstrangenesss... then it's a break long enough to either stay and eat a hearty meal and hang with the folks who stay... or go out for a couple/three hours for dinner or exploring, etc... not that long of a break... and the 2nd show starts by 10pm - so go for it... C-ya there...!

Listening to the Stone Church show, and I love the choice of YLMDA for the opener. Everybody gets to jam hard right from the get go, and I love the jam leaving the song, something that doesn't always seem to happen. When did the song last open a show? Its been awhile, I think. Whoo, and funking into Thank You! Thanks guys. I hope to catch another show before New Years.

When I had my nephew in travel hockey a few years back we'd always get stuck with 4 or 5 hours between games in these out of town tournaments. We'd go to the mall, do some Christmas shopping, see a movie, all kinds of stuff. But as a historian, it's also a good opportunity to take in some of the local history.

There were only three songs played last Saturday that I could actualy see myself requesting: I Will Always See Your Face (mostly for the incredible jam that follows), Twist & Shout, and Life During Wartime. Nevertheless, I thought it was a real good show because of the intense jamming, which is what I enjoy most anyway :)

The Stone Church may not have sold out, but the place was packed!! And there were more people dancing than not, and the crowd energy was great, lots of hootin and hoolerin for our boys, which helps pick up the band - inspired some beautiful heavy Jamming during both sets. I particularly loved the extended "face" and the tightness of LDW...

Can anyone give me some info on the afternoon portion of the Holiday Office Party? I think we are gonna bring our kids 11,14 and 16(girl,boy,girl).I took them to Hyland for Mark and Scott a few times and would like them to experience the full whole band! We live 15 min. from Hoops so we can take them to the show bring them home and come back for the 2nd show..just wondering what the typical afternoon set might be like and do we need advance tickets? I would not like to get them pumped up to go only to be turned away...I think the last Office Party for me was, like, Husky blues near Uconn years ago! Thanks for any input anyone has to offer:)

I got a box of Rich Petlock's master cassettes from Pickle last night - thanks, Pickle... it covers late 1996 and early 1997. I've already started! The first show I'm doing is 2-15-97 at The Suds Factory - Rich gave me a copy of Set 2, it was spectacular, so I put my 1st gen cassette online... but not that many people came since it was just one set, without encores, and it was 1st generation. So soon you will be able to throw away your old copy, and get the whole show from masters. Yay! :)

Hmmmnn... I can't remember the first song, but my first show was at the original Lupo's, during summer '87. I'd been into the Dead for about a year, seen several shows and traveled a bit, and my friend Travis Benson told me about this band that played 'a lot like the Dead' every wednesday nnight in providence. I was just getting into the whole tripping scene and thought I knew what was up - boy was I wrong. We drove like maniacs from Westwood, Mass after I got out of work at 10pm and they were playing when we got to the show. I remember the crush of people dancing, no room to move, tons of water on the floor, people splashing each other, the crazy dark hole in the wall of a club, and the insane and beautiful lights (Sweet Linda E) that flashed to match the musical mood exactly. I was not actually on any drugs (we had smoked on the way down) but before I knew it I felt like I was tripping intensely and had lost all track of time. They played some dead tunes I recognized but then they did a bunch of songs blending one into the next without stopping - until I had to ask my friend if this was what it was like every time. He just smiled and never stopped whirling. I remember the encore - it was the fastest, most intense guitar playing - and so many changes! - and the TRIPPY-est song I'd ever heard and I was hooked forever. I think it was if you ask me... anyway, I floated home that night knowing that the dead were not the most amazing band out there, and since Providence was close enough to see them every week, I did. For many, many years... it's nice to be back and see them again, but I do miss the (2x a week) old Lupo's and LR...

Last year's Chruch gig was my favorite of the year. Intimate, rustic joint that reminded me of a shrunken Woody's. I can't make it tonight as my daughter's 2nd Birthday is tomorrow and I need to be in tip top shape for the big party. How things change as we grow older. Have a blast tonight!! I think the first song that did it for me was Scarlet Begonias. Not sure where, might have been Wizards or Mad Murphys, possibly. 79'or 80. I could not get enough of them for the next 5 years after that. And tonite I have to take my daughter and a friend to see "fall out boy" in Bridgeport! Have I let myself go or what? I'm gonna wait in my van and listen to some Creek!

My first Creek show was a Wednesday night at the original Lupo's, September or October of 1987. I kind of think the first song was Emotional Railroad, but I'm not sure at all. I do remember that the second set opened with Truckin', dedicated to DeGugs who was celebrating his 2nd anniversary with the band. And the rest is history, so to speak . . .

1st Creek tune.. who the fuck knows! I was 15, at the STING in New Britain, and they were serving me (lots)!!! The door swung wide open for me that night, but as far as specific tunes go, that would come with years of creekin. For some reason however, I do recall Dark Water as my first connection to a creek tune. And speakin of Scotty bein late, anyone go to the Gathering on the Mountain in the Poconos maybe 95? Wow! Look what I started! Thanks for a great birthday! All I want to do is enjoy my day & I see this. I went to a dermatoligist today to get something biopsied to find out if I have skin cancer. Then I was at the doctor's office with my 1 yr old kid & now he's on an antibiotic. I can't call Jay at work & that is a quick easy way of communication. It's truly a shame that your life is so pathetic that you get shits & giggles out of making fun of someone you don't even know. I am done with the forum & your sick sense of humor so don't bother posting a response.

OK, I have to admit the Nocturnals (the boys in the band) are pretty talented. It's Grace's screaming at live shows that is like fingernails on a chalkboard. The studio stuff sounds fine, but wait til you see her live to decide. I heard that the headliner band laughed at her screaming tyrade as she tried to sing above everyone else at one show where they all came out together at the end.

Grace Potter rocks, my new favorite band I haven't seen yet. I can't imagine that the members of government Mule wouldn't like their music or their musicianship, since both play their asses off. I personally don't care what grace's sexuality is as long as she puts it out on stage, just like I could care less what anyone's sexuality is, or is not. I barely care what my sexuality is...as far as I'm concerned, sexuality can be a giant weight on ascension to a perfected body...the balancing is not being either male or female, aligning one's thoughts and desires in order to build a perfect human form, which is sexless, and has no digestive or elimination systems, everything needed is obtained from the four elementals (air, earth, water, fire). how's that for waste of bandwidth?

Remembered almost all families are dysfunctional in some manor. My brother is the comedian, my sis is religist, im the party animal, my other bro is the college genius---but my family in real life does all love music (not the same kind unfortunatley). variety is the spice of life. also didnt we figure that the bandwidth is really pretty cheap or is the band still shelling out some huge bucks for this site. all said its the bands site and they can do what they want with and im sure they dont care about most of this crap and why they have dumped it off on some one else. I am not sure if it is stupidity or just plain old being an asshole that makes you post the things you do, but when you work and don't have access to the phone and your 1 year old son is sick you find ways to keep in touch. As for posting about a show the same night as x+m If you read the post instead of just bitching about it you would have read that the show is from 6 to 8 pm and 45 min from sully's which means 2 good shows in 1 night. I would now tell you to go f yourself but since you have nothing better to do but sit at the computer and analyze the forum, you probably already are. Get a f'n life, loser.

I have a '97 5 Speed Subaru Legacy Wagon and it's great...I'm actually selling it right now because I need something bigger to fit my keyboards ;-) But, besides that, it's perfect- great in the snow, runs smooth, under 90k. Def. the best car I've ever owned- well, tied with my old Camry...

ShanN, I totally disagree with creekhed. If he is talking about the late 80's/early 90's, those were the "Loyle" models, and those guttless wonders were a peice of shit. Once the "Legacy" models came out, things changed and I swear by them. I had a 92' Legacy sedan that was totally awesome and was still going strong with over 150k when I traded in for my truck. We now have a 2001 Outback LL Bean with 110k and all is good. The biggest thing about them is changing the timing belt when scheduled. Most imports with belts suggest every 60k. With a Subaru, do it right then! At 120k, do the belt and water pump since it is right there also. Our 2001 has that H-6 motor, that actually has a chain, so not as important. Email me off-site if you want more info or input.

Sp@cey, I saw Across The Universe several weeks ago and I've been raving about it since. It's edgy, entertaining and pretty far out. I've been a BIG Dana Fuchs (Sadie) fan for a while now, saw her a few times w/ her band at BB Kings. You'll love the movie. I even purchased the soundtrack on Itunes. Julie Taymor did an excellent Directing job as did the cast with rearrangements those Beatles' tunes. I've always wanted to do something similar... perhaps we can do it with Creek songs. hmmmmm... now there's an idea!!! (((mental }:{ note)))

having quite the slice of life on this visit to muskogee... yesterday i was coming out of the double doors into the main wing of the hospital and was quickly halted by an orderly, stopped just in time to have a dead body pass by with about 6 family members trailing behind on their way to the chapel. then today twin girls were born & one of our core team brought us into the maternity ward to see their pink little faces... & last night at the
