I'm listening to the show now... I'm up to "You're the Only One" now, and it sounds good, but I bet a more discerning ear than mine might have a problem, especially on the upcoming JAR finale

a good recording will contain clips, but should be so brief that they aren't noticable. post processing introduces word rounding errors across the entire section of the recording thats processed

...and the way I raise the levels doesn't mess with the overall sound at all... I find the loudest sample in the whole show, and how far I can raise it to be exactly 0.0, and then raise every sample in the show that same amount.
ed
- Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 14:52:24 (EDT) [66.189.78.86]
clipping the waveform messes with the overall sound too...
ed
- Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 14:48:26 (EDT) [66.189.78.86]
any processing of a recording (eq, levels, hiss removal, etc) after it's made messes with the overall sound. recording with lower levels will cause a loss of detail. best to get it right at the start.

I have the "people pics" I took last Saturday online... these were mostly taken before Creek, as it soon got too crowded to take them... some during DQ, some during the band that played between DQ and Creek (what was their name?)... go to http://scoogy.com/people_pics/

right off the bat, I find that Rob Clarke's recording of last Saturday is pretty badly clipped... it's mostly on the drum beats, but on JAR it may be more noticeable. Please, tapers, try recording at a lower level and then boosting the signal afterwards. If you don't have the means to raise the levels, I would be very happy to do it for you; I can boost the levels to exactly 0.0 with Bias' Peak.

Excellent show tonite at Ballard Park in Ridgefield, CT. It’s outdoors, the weather is great, and it’s free. I saw the act Saturday Night in NYC – Elana James and The Continental Duo. Elana plays violin and sings and there’s an electric guitar player and a stand-up bass player, both of whom do some lead vocals. Elana is a big-time talent and extremely attractive too. I introduced myself after the show and asked if I could tape tonites gig and she said to tape away. Hope to see some of you there. The concerts are called CHIRP, not sure what that means, Concert Happinings in Ridgefield Parks? But you should be able to find directions on some website easy enough. Show starts at 7:00, no opening act.

form is created in ur concious, spin oh baby, spin around.Without a physical personality in high school i woulda got a wedgie that my dad woulda felt,.......the matter that makes us up daily, open ur eyes 2 see ,see it is beyond our reach 2 prepare 4 thus thee wedgie that the seniors will enlighten my azz wiff if i don't heighten my personality, and it is then,AND THEN only i say that my underware will remain in my pants.....!........AMEN...

Consciousness creates form. It is not the other way around. All personalities are not physical. It is only because you are so busily concerned with daily matters that you do not realise that there is a portion of you who knows that its own powers are far superior to those shown by the ordinary self.

AND I WONDER IF ANYONE HAS EVER TOLD U THAT LIFE IS AMAzzING. It took me a while 2 chose the appropriate words 2 start this with but I feel this is absolutely the way 2 do it. Now this is a disclaimer that here in follows actual real feelings & life stuff so read at your own discretion. In the beging( circa 91 for me) I used to believe that Max Creek was the sickest thing ever. Some time afer that my mmmother passed (4 /)6 /96)and I was convinced that Max Creek was 1 of the most super special things around and that every moment was and is fleeting and priceless. Some time after that I realised it was the truth. I am eXtremely lucky and so are U 2 have this part of our lives together you all have given me far more than I could ever possibly have deserved. Many times in my life I could not have seen my self making it or surviving and making it with out you or the people you have brought into my life. There are many and most will remain nameless, but Max Creek clearly and distinctly brought me in touch with Epps at a pure moment in time and he is truely a remarkable human being and has kept my life a float for the last couple of days, (this gets more personal now if you want 2 stop) On thursday planets aligned and life started and stopped as the universe remained in harmony. On thurs. @ 2 : 00 I left my father at work like always do and he was fine other than the fact that he snapped a tooth and was haveing an emergency dental procedure. During this he had what they called a fatal cardiac event but it did not kill him , this is where the miracles start and then the other patient in the dental office just happened 2 be a cardio man and kept him going until the emt got there, less than 2 min. then they gave him a stint, and his heart looked good so after that his brain was in severe jeopardy. Apparently HH is one of 2 hospitals in the US where they are lower brain temps and then gradually bringing them up to reduce shock.Any way to keep it shorter Dad is doing as best as could be eXpected and while I was writing this they moved him out of cardiac ICU. Max Creek has always bee a fundamental part of my life and for the last few years been the most instrumental part of my life. In the light of the situation I feel it is awesome that you chose this weekend to bring back the percussion and to have 2 at the same time and for one them to be Ian on the cowbell on stage in that shirt and then for b 2 put it up instantly so I could see it is soo special it transends words. (sorry it's long) But it doesn't end here I had started doing the primal scream therapy thurs. night and was ripping them for a day when I saw Epps and told him I was using the primal scream therapy. We looked at each other and instantly knew that would be the closer. I love you all so much every moment in time everything you ever gave it is infinately priceless to me and those around me I can never thank you enough for all we have shared. Sometimes in life you just need both of your families and then you realize you were lucky enough to have one let alone 2. Hold the ones you have Xtra close all the time and hug a stranger. I will see you soon. May the circle be unbroken... MORE COWBELL

A sleeping dog if I ever heard of one.Personally I prefer a full Creek show to a truncated 'half-of-a-story' festy set.Vibes is it's own beast. And Max Creek is a headliner IMO.ERIC and Ken have worked well together in the past, and Creek has a history with Vibes that goes back to the beginning at SUNY,when they headlined saturday night.I would presume to say it's not our buisness. If it were personal, and not buisness, terrapin wouldn't still have a section on their boards for Camp Creek.Speaking of which...59 days.:)

Well, Strangecreek was cool today. X sat in for all of Entrain's set. mark played for all of Tor's set as well as Fuzz sitting in for the last tune. DQ was fun as always. They did Buena Buena, Mas y Mas, 10 to 1, hey Kid, some James Brown tune and a few other cool things like a jam based on "Algebra on Acid" the Bridge were really good as well. ( I am not positive on the Creek list but here goes) Creek opened with In Harmony, Wild Side, Can't let go, Just a Rose, Blood Red Roses, Mysterey Train?, Something is Forming( I think that was the whole first set) Set 2: Thank you Falletinme Be Mice Elf, and I am not sure after this but there was a July Woman, Green River and You're the only one. Allshouse and Vasso played Drums and the drummer from Entrain sat in for a good chunk of the set for some three Drummer fun. I t was a beautiful day. Our 7 month old had a blast at his first Creek show.

hey tapeworm, remembah when we were all on our way to camp, and we stopped at the local mcD's before hitting the highway, and this lady pulls in next to us, and her young son goes, "Hey mom, look! so... today i'm standin' in line at the pizza shop gettin' lunch when i hear from behind me: "Hey, they're still doin' Camp Creek?!"... i'm wearin' a '01 Camp tee... so this oldah blond lady steps up an' asks me when was the last one... i chuckle an' say the next one's comin' up at the end of july... "really? is john rider still with the band?"... "yeah."... "what about murawski an' the rest? is camp still up in maine?"... "nah, it's in mariaville, just past albany."... "cool. is it on their website?"... "absolutely. maxcreek.com,"... apparently she used to catch the band back in the '80's... she mentioned lupo's... the agora... office parties in a warehouse?... she was clearly amazed that the Creek still play... she said she'd check out the website... said she has to "see the boys" again... (maybe groupies are like love... nevah fade away)... granted it's not a ticket sold... but with any luck she'll make the return trek to that peak of the summer... CAMP CREEK!...

congrats Bobby T. and Stiney..in other news..just got back from a 4 night stint in sunny Orlando to take the old lady for a lttle r&r with the mouse and company..learned quite a bit while visiting the corporate vacation mecca...not the least being to appreciate my beloved Mother even more..I have no idea how she (or any average family) can pack up the kiddies and fly out and trip the light fantastic at WDW..you turn to take a piss and plan on dropping a 50 dollar bill..dont get me wrong..I had a blast and would do it again next week if Vegas wasn't on the agenda..but I'm not in the same situation a lot of families are..I wondered how many go home in so much debt that maybe..it just wasn't worth it..I actually found myself a bit depressed for some of the fathers I saw there...trying to drowned the little tykes cries in a mango daiqueri..which had no booze in at 9.50 a pop..they're aweful good but after a half dozen or so you wake up and ask yourself where the hell is the whiskey..oh yeah..english is not the primary language but on the upside..every kid at the fast pass lane can be bribed a five spot so your crew can get on any ride first

My 1st Tune In, Turn On: (the old smaller) Lupo’s Walk on the Wild Side Wednesday, December 23rd, 1987. I was a progressive rock snob at the time & had only just begun getting turned onto the more “in depth” sounds of the Dead/Creek. As a 17 year old, I fancied the harder rock so the Dead wasn’t fully my cup of tea. That is why my friend insisted we drive 2 hours (which seemed NUTS to me at the time) to see this local band, Max Creek: so I could see a more ROCKIN’ jamband. I, like many ran into some folks who were selling their artwork on small pieces of paper that enhanced my evening. I can’t tell you much about the show except they played Eyes of the World which was one of the few tunes I knew. I was really taken by DeGugs & especially Rob with the Battery of Equipment creating all kind of colors & textures. I had never paid any “percussionists” much mind until I started seeing him. This was also the beginning of my journey away from “chops” & into “groove” from what I was hearing from DeGug. It was a fun time & while I can’t say I was immediately blown away by the band at first site/hear, I KNEW I’d be coming back for more. And apparently that inclination was correct as... that was 20 years ago!! :P (Where DOES the feeekin' time go???) Good Times. And… that “artwork” I mentioned? I drove home with 100 of them sitting in plain site on my dashboard as I proceeded to do no less than 90 Mph all the way from Providence to New Haven CT, at which point my car overheated about 3 miles away form my house. Ahhh yes… “Young & Foolish” Fer sher!! LOL; C U all on Saturday!!

In fairness, Tirebiter may not be everyone's cup of tea, but won the Advocate awards as a "best classic rock" about the same time Creek won their accolades; they always had good stuff to say about Creek. Original member Jeff Ladd is an old UHA classmate of mmmark and Kid Wabs. Lighten up on the old guys!

Hi, folks! First...congrats to Bobby T & Stiney. Happy b-day, Carl. Safe travels, Skeets. sk...I've seen Jerry Joseph and I'm afraid he doesn't quite do it for me. He's certainly a competent guitarist, but I find his vocals to be too obnoxious for my taste. YMWV...for example, I know Gillian Welch does nothing for you, sk, but she & David Rawlings have rocked my world for almost (gulp!) a decade. Just a case of different strokes here.

My first show was in November of '95 @ the old Lupo's. Didn't know much about the band at all. My friends older sister told me about them, she described them as Rolling stones meet Grateful Dead with a touch of the Allman Bros. Ironically they played Can't Always Get What You Want and encored with Sugar Mags. It was also the first time I met Dirt (anyone remember him?). He had this realy cool artwork on tiny pieces of paper, totaly blew my mind! I wandered around Providence all night after the show wondering what the hell the loud screahing noise coming from the rooftops was. I ended up in some rundown apartment on Federal Hill with some crazy chick crying about her boyfriend Manny. Crazy times!! The beiginning of a LONG STRANGE TRIP....Still hasn't ended!!!

my first was a steamy hot late August night 1990 at the Paradise. At one point I walked (seriously dazed) through a door into a disco, couldn't get out fast enough. I remember being floored by the monster segue from Lousisana Sun to Big Boat.. and a Loose Lucy encore sent me home. Greeted the dawn floating on a misty lake.. with ~ducks~ coasting by on the glassy water

First show was outside at a fest called the Shaboo-All Stars(?) it was near a golf course out in Windham spring/summer of ‘92’. I think it was a reunion of bands that had played at the Shaboo Inn, with Creek headlining. Sorry no setlist, there may have been more liquid in the air besides the rain. It was a vivid awakening though. I recall sitting on the hill at the back of the field with a buddy as Louisiana Sun gathered momentum and burst into full force. I turned to my buddy over the thundering sounds and said damn these guys are good. I stood up walked down into the field and I don’t think I’ve sat down at a creek show since.

Before I ever went to a gig, I attended a couple of rehearsals in Bob Gosselin's basement. either 73' or 74'. First gig i *think* was the rockinghorse, must have been 74'. Set list extremely unknown. I do remember the PA columns were lined with exquisitely padded Corinthian pleather. How's that for disclosure ?

My 1st ever show- 7/15-16 1977...Mountainside Inn (Old Rosewood restaurant) Simsbury Ct. I think the cops tried (or maybe they did) to shut it down because of a lack of a permit or something...remember Sue Gosselin hiding from them ....;)

4/13/84 - E. M. Loew's Plymouth Theatre in Worcester. My only show with Bob Gosselin. All I can remember were all these drums - there must have been a thousand. A crazy bassist with a bass that had flashing lights on it and an amp with oscillators on it (straight out of a monster movie). Then came JONES and I was done....

One of the shows in January or February 1978 at Mad Murphy's, Union Place, Hartford. It was always such a joy to see Big Orange parked out front. Still my favorite venue. The Inn Place follows close behind. The "special event" gigs at the Lit Hall and Trinity were always big fun, too. Crystals hanging from the mikes, saddle bags, a Travis Bean, a homemade bass with blinking red and green lights, a box marked "Human Blood" . . .
