Can anyone help me out? I'd like to try to get rid of a couple of pieces of Rock memorabilia (without using e-Bay). Perhaps there is a delaer, like a baseball card shop or coin shop, that deals in old records/memorobilia. I've got one of those Danny Clinch photog books signed by Phish (after the Coventry thing); Unripped Coventry ticket, unused "Betty Ford Clinic" backstage pass, unused VIP parking placard, etc. I know most of you think the stuff is worthless, and I would probably would as well, but a couple of years ago some guy (who is obviously unattainable) offered me $500 for just the Coventry stuff, so I know its worth something to some people. Anyone know of any dealers/stores, etc. Bust my balls if you need to, but I could use the $$. Thanks

I don't use the "normalize" function (to be honest, I don't know how :) Peak can also just raise the overall level by x so that the peak goes to exactly 0.0, and everything gets raised the same amount, . Of course, that doesn't increase the dynamic range, as normalize would, but I'm just trying to help out those of you who like to play your Creek ***REAL LOUD*** (I know at least one of you who does :) My editing doesn't extend to changing the music itself - who am I to change what Creek has created and an experienced taper has recorded? - just to the dead spaces between music.

and, ed, just mho, but I disagree with setting normalize at a maximum of 100%. on some systems the music will sound slightly distorted, and again in my opinion the dynamic range is compromised. my preference is to set around 86 to 94% -- if someone wants it louder, they can turn up the volume. that being said, thanks for your work, it's appreciated.

hey ed, if the clipping's that harsh you can try to send me over the files. Sound Forge has a clipped peak restoration plugin that can help to clean that up.

At the Shoreline Amphitheater on September 1, 1990, this concert showed off the talents of the Jerry Garcia Band. While this concert date was originally booked for the Grateful Dead, the group opted to not perform because of keyboardist Brent Mydland's recent death from a drug overdose. Stepping in to fill the Grateful Dead's shoes, the Jerry Garcia Band performed a 14-song set featuring such classics as "Dear Prudence," "Stop That Train," and "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You."....@ now we can all get it on dvd...Hmm..maybe Creek can put out a dvd someday, that would be way co0ol!!!!

If any of you saw kung foo hustle you will appreciate this: just now, while we were eating dinner, I saw a very thin girl running by my window, a man was chasing her and he caught her and threw her up against the wall. I started banging on the window and yelling at him but he kept on, so I opened the window. It was like my very soul opened up and I screamed, moth** fuc**er get your hands of her now!!! I felt like a dragon. He dropped her and ran away! She was looking all around and whispered thank you. I defly want to learn more about that...

...and yes, the sound quality is a little primitive, but it contains some interesting stuff, like a very early version of The Field which has a different order to the verses and chorus.

That 7-27-78 Shaboo show came from me originally. It was sent to me by an older fan who now lives in Arizona. He taped it on an unknown reel-to-reel and years later when he made the CDs he clipped out the dead space between songs but didn't do much else. From the chatter on the recording, it appears it was the band's first show at the Shaboo and getting booked there was a big deal.

Fully agreed 100%, sk. wavy, I've known that from the get go: When you lose the fulcrum to what *made* Grateful Dead, it is simply irreplaceable. That said, the closest to take me THERE in the post-GD world is Phil because of his willingness to take risks working with different musicians, and not just doing GD regurgitation. First GD was 4/15/83...can't recall my first Creek, but I know it was one night around 1985 when a friend and I stumbled into the Warehouse for the first time, and the one tune I remembered was Rider. However, I really didn't latch into Creek until around '87. And as I've done for years now, I say NO to DSO!

the point being of course that both phil & weir were at least vital, integral parts of the band while DSO is just a bunch of homo's with a bit of musical talent cashing in on the grateful dead. like after a girl has been with you, whats she supposed to do, never have sex again cuz it will never be as good as it was with you?

Those of you who are converting cassettes to cd's - if you record them at a pretty low level (-3 to -10db) and send them to me before you break them up, I can raise the levels to exactly 0.0db with no clipping, and return them to you. I can also remove the tape hiss for you if you want. (just thought I'd throw that out there for your consideration.)

the Grateful Dead were like the Hank Aaron of Music. Consistently great, yet for the most part they operated under the radar. there were more sexy bands, like the rolling stones & led zep that were great and when they came to town it was a huge event, they were the willie mays' and mickey mantles of music, but at the end of the day there was hank aaron, the career leader in home runs and rbi. baseball & the grateful dead, and bacon, the 3 most important things in life.........not necessarily in that order!!!

good guess, but no. It was Denny McLain of the Detroit Tigers, in 1968. His 31-6 in-loss record that year marked the first time a hurler had racked up 30 or more wins since Dizzy Dean in 1934. just keepin' ya on the up and up. hahaha... (; The Dizzy Dean's... hmmmm, good name for a band.

it all comes down to having a usable copy to master for a cd... they would need master copies of the show and the tune would have to be without flaw on the tape.. the older shows are probably on reels with issues like tape striction and such.. alot of work and time for a project that only what 100 people would buy.. honestly.. i would rather see a release like Spring Water again.. or like a nice set from eastover or something.. all mastered and such.. but they play alot of cover tunes and those would need original artist consent and $$ paid to the original artist.. maxology seemed like a good idea.. but it might be unfeasable

So to get MAXOLOGY finished the band should agree on the songs to be included...then have a committee of sorts formed that would find the best versions of those songs to be recorded.... except for maybe some of the older choices which might be found in johns attic???? hahahaaaa.... seriously though... COME ON BOYS.... don't let that deal go down. Put Carl in a position of power... he'll relish the hot dog, I mean the opportunity.

he was good, very good. but in 26 years he never won a cy young award. in his best year he had a 3rd place finish. no doubt he had a great arm as evidenced by all those strikeouts. but the bottom line is winning games. when nolan ryan, despite all his gifts, took the mound his team had a little better than 50% chance of winning that game.

the things about DSO i don't get are the prices they charge.. they are a cover band.. jeez.. they ask alot of dough, more then i paid to see the real thing.. and why do people tape them... hmmm, they are trying to recreate the show in the same way.. why tape when you can get the original show by the dead on cd.. hmmm. but for people that go... i can see there side.. like any cover band, and i have seen my share, floyd, ac/dc, zep.. you go to hang with friends and have fun, have a beer, sing songs you know.. you don't go to hang on every note and be transported.. you go to have a good time.. but they should charge less... they should charge 10 bux..

i got the cd's sweens, thanks. JW, i agree with you, i'm no fan of DSO, my friends in ben lomond dig them, and these are people who have seen the real thing. i always tell them, we have max creek, they are not a cover band, and they are waaaay waaaay better than DSO. the guy who plays the bobby part is frightening to say the least. i understand they plan on re-creating the brilliant cornell show from may of 1977 when they are up there on that exact same date.

tony...it's the recording quality that sucked on that Allmans release...for the $$$$, it was unacceptible. sk...DSO is in Boulder tomorrow night, but I'm driving 45 minutes north to see John Prine instead. Sorry, but I cannot and will not do soulless facsimiles, and still contend that all DSO is doing is living off the coattails of the Good Old Grateful Dead! When I want to hear Grateful Dead, I listen to a recording...simple as that. So...any possible release date for Maxology?

Maxology is very close to being finished. We just need perfectly played, perfectly mixed, perfectly recorded live versions of the songs that the all the band members agreed upon from the band's past 36 years that will fit on 2 CDs.

Hi, folks! tony, tony, tony...that Phil w/Ryan Adams Fillmore show is -- without a doubt -- not only the single worst show I have since since moving to CO, but one of the single worst shows ever experienced! Ryan was not ready to play that type of music, and it showed. What was played that night failed to pass for a dress rehearsal! A show so unlistenably awful that after "Bird Song" was mangled in the second set, I could take no more and headed for the exits: One of only two times I left a GD or GD-related show early. I respect Ryan as an artist and writer, but as a "friend of Phil's", on that night, he was absolutely pathetic!

from someone who was there for both nights: "Suffice to say our experience on Tuesday was very different from what has been written in the widely-disseminated screed posted about Monday's show. There are many reasons for this, one of the largest being that any show where the drummer is lost less than 2 hours beforehand (Molo had food poisoning) is definitely a recipe for disaster. Molo was back last night, and he was stellar. I think we reaped the benefits of his absence on Monday--he was, truly, abjectly apologetic for his absence (he came out to the rail and apologized to the crowd, over and over again, for several minutes before the rest of the band came on stage--"so very sorry," "I'm sorry" etc.), and he simply tore up SOBs all night long on Tuesday. He was, simply, relentless."

dt, yeah, you didn't download it at all. need to first install java: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp?locale=en&host=www.java.com THEN you need a bittorrent client, i like azerus. if this is too much, i'll grab it 4 you. http://www.vuze.com/app there's a download inthe lower right. i have my volunteer gig in 1.5 hours, so i can't really help now. later after 9 i can. email me your phone # if you like.

Again as Pte Carroll used to say - I'm pumped and jacked - Tommy - I just reserved a room at the Best Wester in Lee (Hey Space!). It is 4 miles from Eastover at $85.00/night- gotta love the Western Mass prices. You are welcome to stay there if you need to. No invites please. I'm too old to step over hippies sleeping on the floor and in the bathtub :)

Tommy - thanks for this afternoon - I'm in for Friday at Eastover. Let's look into a room in town since the resort is all sold out - or if you want to drive back to Worcester -that's an option - but I won't be driving back that night. Let me know - I'll start checkin on rates.Last year Scotty and I got a $100 room.

tony, that Cumberland is probably the best I've ever heard (which encompasses a lot of Garcia versions as well), the pedal steel solo is beyond insane!!! I've not been impressed as of late with MOTB, I'm liking the sick bits series by Chris chappel?, he mixes soundboards and audience shows for a nice matrix...the last one was 12-1-79, excellent job, I like it better than the official release version. of course, anything with Charlie Miller I grab. those huge packs wreak havoc on my little DSL feed :( poor baby hahaha!
