I have enjoyed Ratdog shows in the past- but last night was just plain bad- bad setlist, bad energy, and bad music. I don’t usually get like that, am I’m sorry to say it, but I found myself looking at the kids freaking out at any “highpoint” as ignorant. I understand that is wrong on many levels...but what can I say. I’m getting older.

one thing I liked about Phil, was that he chose many killer guitar players to jam with...(Robben Ford, Larry Campbell, Warren Haynes, Trey, etc.)...If Bobby did that, I'd go in a minute...Bobby and friends!

To what Derek said, historically almost all my favorite bands have been guitar driven, GD, JGB, Max Creek, the ABB, Led Zep and Dire Straits. Not sure if Pete Townsend or Lowell George would be considered guitar gods, but I loved their bands too. While I’m no fan of Karan, I love Bob Weir, he was a huge part of the band that changed my life, that was the biggest most fun part of my life for over 20 years. He could play with anyone (short of Ozric Tentacles) and I would go see it.

Never saw Joan w/bobby, just Phil. And the smoky sexiness she brought to Candyman and High Time were a sorely needed dollop of deep feminine soul. Not to mention the Shakedown. Oofahhh.

It’s been pretty quiet in phil world lately. The first thing I do every day after I log in is go to the phil site and see what’s new………nothing, for months! I know he said he’d take a year off from touring, but I would figure a 2 – 3 night run at the Warfield here and there. And while on the subject, a pre- HAPPY 66TH BIRTHDAY TO PHIL LESH!!!

ratdog and RD were both reeeal good at the vibes,,maybe just the huge scale but it sure was enjoyable. I saw Pearly Baker in New Bedford last night, now THERE is a dead cover band. They've been playing every tuesday at 'the bullpen' for like 20 years! Absolutley the best take on that music, they totally have their own sound, they have an AMAZING energy and rip it all night...i might go next tuesday, if anybody wants to catch it let me know!

SJ, that's ridiculous. you know what ...the music itself doesn't always do it for me. Once DG absolutely butchered Tangled Up In Blue and stumbled over the same verse three times. I, HOWEVER, am far from done. Ummmmm... I saw Ozric Tentacles at the Wetlands back around 2000 or so. I had to be completely sedated and then tied to the pole just to make me stay. hahaha Although if memory serves, I had a lot of fun that night. lalalala

I'm not looking for it to sound like the dead, just that imho that type of music needs an outstanding lead guitar, and I don't think Karan has it...and that is by design in my opinion...I can't pay $60 for sub-par dead music...I like the dead inspired sound with original, outstanding lead guitar...like max creek...but if Ratdog makes people happy(and it obviously does), that's great for them and Bobby...and if it helps keep the music alive, i'm all for it...

On another note, on late Sunday night I felt like I was at a Creek Living Room show. However, in this case, it was a rare pair of shows at the Fox Theatre on Sunday. At 7 pm, Sam Bush and his fine band tore it up for 140 minutes, with cameos by Jeff Austin, Danny Barnes and Dave Johnston. Midnight was a special YMSB show; which had been announced the night before at the Jeff Austin & Friends show and tix had went onsale at 10 am. The Yonder lads played a fine, inspired show, with Danny Barnes sitting in for the second half of the first set. Three hours of music, the last notes played around 3:40 am, and you can download the board at cotapers.org.

i like how ratdog sounds. the band seems to flow together. i do wish they'd play more bobby tunes. the ratdog studio disc was full of good songs. ofcoures if you're going to a dog show expecting to hear the dead sound you're going to be disappointed. to each their own though. oh yeah, when's the next providence creek show.

A bigger post-GD letdown was the recent Rhythm Devils tour. In the past, a Mickey show was a foray into world music and an area that was an influence of the GD, but totally *outside* that realm! The show I saw in October was watered-down GD nostalgia, with Mike Gordon playing his fill, Steve Kimick playing his Garcia...the only time the music felt relevant was when they were trying new Hunter material. However, that only got so far because of the horrendous vocal shriekings of Jen Durkin -- sorry, that may work in Deep Banana Blackout, but here, it was an atrocity. It was another exercise in lame GD nostalgia whereas past shows would feature percussion landscapes and different directions. Sadly, though, there are those who still want the GD-type trip when those roads have already been well traveled and cannot be explored again.

tonyh...I'm in the same boat as you. The only post-GD I would want to see is Phil because of the risks he takes. To be frank, when Jerry died, so did the Grateful Dead...simple as that! Now, when is Creek going to return to Colorado?;-)

Yeah Creekhead alot of people really liked that show. maybe I was just in a bad mood or something but even though i liked the song selection the band itself held no spark for me. I tried to get into it, but if I am trying then the music itself is not doing it for me. Once Weir absolutely butchered Althea and stumbled over the same verse three times i was pretty much done. I am glad you enjoyed it though, i wish i could say the same. I say bring back the Midnights, they were a bit cheesy at times but Cobham on drums and Alphonso on bass were way more talented than anyone in Ratdog.

I dunno 'bout that Silver Jack... I am pretty tough to please and I thought ...FOR ONCE.... That RATDOG at the Shell in Canandaigua last summer was SCHMOKIN'!!!! That was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than the Phil show I saw days before. It wasn't even close, imo. The Scarlet was sweeet, and Mark actually wailed on the guitar. And that Stephen was killlllllerrrrrrr. I actually thought it was the best "post-Dead" stuff I have seen since the Grateful Dead Reunion at Alpine Valley...which was also extremely good. But...you know what they say... Opinions are like me...an Ass-Hole. Oh, no...wait... I mean...

I like ratdog. Sometimes they’re excellent, sometimes they’re just okay. I never liked mark karan, not that I think he’s bad, I just think he thinks he’s the next coming of elvis, he’s a chooch. I’d rather see weir switch directions and do a tour with ……damn, I forgot their name! the bluegrass outfit he played with at the HSBG Festival. I like the phil band better, and I like any incarnation of the dead, most of all I really liked that guy in the black t-shirt who used to be weir’s guitar player.

Also he played with Dave Mason, Huey Lewis, Sophie B Hawkins, Jessie Colin Young and The Rembrandts("Friends" theme song)they also played the Horde tour either the first or second year.

The Grateful Dead weren't even the Grateful Dead the last four or so years when Jerry was alive. Thats when I stopped going. I walked out of Ratdog last summer in Canandaigua just as they started to play St. Stephen, you know its rough when you keep walking out on St.Stephen. I do like Phil and friends at times, especially when he played with Scofield... that was cool. Gone are the days........

Deb.. how are ya kid.. i also never went to the sidebands expecting the Dead. even went back to people going to teh Jerry Band asking when will he do some dead tunes. and then he would play Deal and they would go nuts and then taht was it. hahahahaa. Ratdog, like Bobby and the Midnites or Scaring the Children.. not the Dead, but now Bobby has decided to play Jerry tunes which kinda makes people think they are seeing the Dead.. that is a major bummer seeing Ratdog, i want to see Bobby play Bobby tunes Heaven Help the Fool, Festival, Easy to Slip.. i want that... not another lame version of West LA Fadeaway.. but he is selling tix to younger people who want to catch a glimpse of what we saw... i say let him do his thing, just we won't be there.

Hi, folks!! Aaaahhhh...SchwagDog! Bob Weir's Grateful Dead Bar Band! I'm with Tony 100%: I would much rather see Weir go back to playing with a distinguishable musician like Rob Wasserman instead of a group of faceless second-stringers. If I want Grateful Dead, I play a show on lossless or CDR. YMWV...I stopped chasing Jerry's ghost awhile ago.

i think HB has the idea.. Bobby wants to be the star in this band and has second stringers in his band. Karan can do some basic soloing and thats that, nothing fantastic. he probably found him in some bar playing All Along teh Watchtower and signed him up. and he probably doesn't want a Garcia clone either. Ratdog is a snoozefest.. Bob and Rob Scaring the Children was where it was at!

I decided to go to Ratdog last nigth at the last minute. Nevermind the weak setlist, the band was dragging, uninspired, and completely devoid of soul. Good thing for Weir that he seems to have a solid fan base of 19 year olds who don't know any better and dance like Tommy during the tortured Victim-Easy Answers combo at the beginning of the second set. I don't undersatnd why he chose Mark Karan as his lead player. I would think he would be able to have his pick. Just reinforces how much Creek rocks day in and day out!!!!!!!

and here it is, the 14th anniversary of THE STORM. Creek played Friday night in East Hartford and the forecast called for a huge N’Easter the next day. It’s still the biggest storm I can ever remember with over 30 inches of snow in the Hartford area. I know Fred & Kelly came up for the show and left sometime after the show, like 3 in the morn? and then drove straight into the teeth of the storm. Kel, how long did it take you once you hit the GW Bridge? Happy Anniversary to those who went to the show, I believe the venue was called Buster’s at the time.

One of my favorite aspects of X's playing is his ability to play such rippin' leads on the lowest end of the fretboard. Few guitar players utilize this as much as he does and none do it as well as he does. I believe the tone and brightness of the Languedoc (sp) lend itself to this aspect of his playing better than the Ibanez. I believe the tone is sharper and brighter and it picks this dynamic up better. If he brought back the Ibanez, I wouldn't complain. I love the sound and it's the sound I heard the first 18 of 19 years of Creeking. But really, it's the musician that makes the instrument and not the other way around. Sorry, I don't go back as far as the Travis Bean.

Good morning people. After giving the "Lupo's" show a listen I came upon idea. "Ratdog" is playing thursday in springfield and it is general admission, so somebody should go, bring a copy of the "Lupo's" show (make sure all dates, ect.) walk right to the front of the stage and hand it to Bob and say "listen to this" and say it firm like. I'm very sure something good will evolve, Bob is really clear now. Peace out.

Tommy, did you read the post from Zappa? He apoloigizes for haveing to post here, but someone is not answering emails. He has tried to keep this off the board, but when people blow off your emails, you have to do what you have to do. All what the guy wants is his tapes back, is that to much to ask? Tommy, since you live close to this person and see him on a regular basis, why don't you ask this person to send those tapes back?

8 BALL POCKETED ON THE BREAK: If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, breaker may ask for a re-rack or have the 8-ball spotted and continue shooting. If the breaker scratches while pocketing the 8-ball on the break, the incoming player has the option of a re-rack or having the 8-ball spotted and begin shooting with ball in hand behind the head string.

I love the new guitar, but the Ibe will always be one of my faves, along with Weir's, the one with the the sunburst and the cool neck inlays...time for a little 2-24-96 set 2 for breakfast, its mp3 but still melts the stereo!

Actually BUZZ is right WKZE is in Red Hook NY their broadcast tower is actually in Salisbury CT the station moved from Sharon about a year and a half ago or so to the present location in Red Hook i listen to it alot at work it is a good station but can get a bit folky sometimes but it sure is diverse.

that wkze station you mentioned actually broadcasts from sharon ct. by far the best radio in the state, unfortunately the signal gets lost in the hills and ya can't even hear it in torrington (their transmitter is on the ny state side) but if you livr in the hudson valley it's a great resource. between wkze, wdst, and the strong signal from wfmu in jersey the hudson valley really has it made...

Buzz i was standing right next to you for that 10/11/00 space into book...we all knew what the tune was but couldnt put a finger on it.....i think for one show, the boys should each pick one tune for the entire night....scott signs one verse then jam...then mark sings a verse of his tune then jam, then john and back to scott for his second verse and so on and so on.....would make for some great long jamming....

March 9, 2007 Today's Outlook: This is a rock-and-roll day, as the Sun in psychic Pisces squares confident Jupiter and awakens our power to dream. Attractive Venus continues to activate a stabilizing Grand Fire Trine, but we are more restrained today as Venus connects with serious Saturn. We are less concerned with immediate gratification than with making love last. Meanwhile, the intense Scorpio Moon turns our feelings inside out as we flip between imagination and reality.

Tommy, yes. that was kinda what they were going for... 7/4/89 was the finish of the 7/2/89 set 1 Playing... that Foxboro Playin is like 5 minutes long before Jer quickly gets it into Crazy Fingers... So Bob tears up the reprise on 7/4/89.. i remember the huge 91 MSG run (9 shows) and they do the same. wip out only reprise cuz they started it days earlier.. makes ya think, was it just 1 long show for the dead. hahahahaha.. didn't creek do that once, play Devil's Heart and then the next night play the Signature. something like that... its all one song!

Incandescent light bulbs are inefficient because they convert only about five percent of the energy they receive into light. Compact fluorescent light bulbs, on the other hand, use about twenty-five percent of the energy of conventional bulbs and generate seventy percent less heat than incandescents.

Hey BUZZ, we drove up to Sterling directly after the Ithaca show ended. Somwehow S.F. managed to attach himself to our party and rode up with us, sailing through the gate on our coattails. He had *mailed* his tent to FW and Martha and it was already set up for him. That's the way to do it huh?
