night after night i see u out here biding ur time and waiting for i don't know if all of us stood in a circle around u do u think u could tell us where we should go? cuz i'm trying to find out why we are all together when the easiest thing in the world would be to just walk away and i wonder what life would be like if it ended tomorrow do the chains of life ever go away? do the chains of life ever go away? not today hey i see u about to draw something i'm dying to know what its gonna be i know u feel the pain i feel inside don't ever keep it away from me cuz i'm dying to find out why ur so indecisive when the pain that u spill on the floor isn't setting u free and i wonder if anyone's told u that life is amazing do the chains of life ever let u be? do the chains of life ever let u be? not to me the soul of man has got me fading his eyes are closed so he won't see the waking dream has no life inside but he lives on essentially cuz our children are giving up asking us all of our questions and our teachers are dealing with teaching them what they should know and a voice in the crowd of the free has been just about silenced will the chains of life ever let u go? will the chains of life ever let u go? i don't know

Today's Outlook: The intense Scorpio Moon sets the stage for an emotionally powerful day as Scorpio's two ruling planets, Mars and Pluto, conjoin in a fiery show of passion. This suggests volcanic eruptions of feelings, displays of suppressed rage and struggles for control. Fear of loss can make matters worse unless we pay attention. Taking the high road is crucial, for integrity combined with kindness can open the way for evolutionary transformation.

My 3 year old daughter, Kaya, wouldn't go to sleep tonight. I tried everything, but finaly I had to take her for a car ride. When we started driving, I had Phil 4/20/02 in the CD player, with the killer Rainy Day Woman Jam, and Dark Star-Blues for Allah-Dark Star. But Kaya wanted them to "sing words on the radio". So I asked her if she wanted to listen to Johnny Cash instead, but she said "No, I want Bob Dylan, he's nice." So we listened to Blood On The Tracks, and she passed out in about 10 minutes. She also wanted to hear Blue Jippy (Gypsy Blue), but my 10/15/99 show was scratched.

Another Vassar memory: In 1994, he and his jazzgrass band played at what was the Horizontal Boogie Bar, and it was poorly promoted, to the point that I estimate that there were only 50 people at the bar. Vassar and his band goes onstage and says, "Well, let's just pretend this is a packed house." He and his jazzgrass band played exquisitely, richly and beautifully for around 135 minutes; playing their hearts out for the sheer love of it! One of my all-time favorite experiences inside that old Warehouse...no lie! I didn't stop smiling for days.

Boulder, CO USA - Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 16:58:28 (EST) [67.165.213.140]
Hi, folks! Aaaahhh...Vassar! First, the name of Peter Rowan's tribute song (I believe) is "Play Vassar Play", as the Rowan-Rice Quartet played it at both Telluride and Rockygrass last year. Vassar will always have a special place in my heart, as I was lucky enough to meet him back in 1990 before he played at the old Warehouse -- the 15 minutes spent just BS'ing with him I'll never forget. When I think of Vassar, I use the term "grace", because that's what he did every time he was onstage. The last time I saw Vassar was with Old & In The Grey at Rockygrass 2003, and the final song of the night and festival was a *fantastic* 16-minute version of "Midnight Moonlight", where Vassar played this *HUGE* solo that was so etherial that when he finished, the crowd erupted in massave applause as the song kept continuing. I could say much more, but whatever band he is playing with now is only that much better. It was Vassar VASSAR VASSSSSSERRR CLEMENTS!!!

if you've tapped into wolfgang's vault, check out this doozie: Dickey Betts 12/14/74 (http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/ConcertDetail.aspx?id=2391|1830). You have to register but its free. The lineup is huge, including Spooner Oldham, Vassar Clements, Bonnie Bramlett and the Poindexters, among many. So far its been an electric set followed by a bluegrass set and now back to electric, as Vasser is hypnotizing Elizabeth Reed. I'm loving it.

update on Ma Dukes..thank you all for your kind thoughts and words regarding my Mother..be them via phone calls, email, myspace, or here on the forum..she is still hospitalized but doing a bit better today..Monday and yesterday were extremely scary for me and mine..she really wants to come home but her specialists are keeping her to see if all the meds will help the problems (which are many at this point)..her lungs are shot and the congestion is really bad at points and she cant get all of the shit up..they are afraid that the fluid will start to build up soon..the Drs are reluctant to suction it out, due to infection and pnemonia among other things..we wont even get started on the heart issues...it's been a crazy few days..I got some time to myself tonight so I'm going to head to the cabinet for a couple scotches...and believe me they will ALL be toasted to her and you..thanks again and I'll keep you posted

do you have flac frontend, if not get it, it decodes the files to wave files(?) that are burnable, just add files from your hard drive and hit decode it will chande them wherever your files are stored, then you can listen to them or burn or get winamp for free, and add the flac plug in to listen to files and i think you can burn them there also.

What first attracted me to Creek back in 1990 was the high percentage of "kickass" songs, like Windows, Trippin, Greatest Story, Darlin', Sugar Magnolia, Down on the Corner, Big Boat, You Can't Always Get What You Want, After Midnight... These fast, intense songs evoked the most dancing, and the greatest crowd reaction. Back in 1990 they made up about 50% of the songs played... today that percentage is much lower. I maintain that is what has caused Max Creek's crowds to shrink (that and the lack of paper :) - Lately that percentage has increased again, and the crowds are starting to grow a little. So I say, play more of those fast, intense songs... but then, what do I know?

I can't think of any reason to stay up past my bedtime just to listen to a liar spout more lies. i fully agree with bobby t, it's how they play it, sometimes they'd open the 2nd set with one of my favs, a sloppy crazy fingers followed by a ragged playing in the band, and another night they'd open with the 2nd set with the over-played samson & delilah into ship of fools and even though those 2 don't hold a candle set-list wise to CF......PITB, it's how they play them. oops, wrong band, but the story remains the same.

((Kevos' aunt))...feel better Kel :)....Eamon,almost!...the one time I saw Strangefolk outside of a fest they were great, back in '98...And just to play the other Devils Advocate, why come on here to plug the band you're currently in love with?..Aren't Creek and Folk members on friendly terms?..the whole conversation started because Carl made an innocent post about the setlist looking average, which he can say since he's at 99.9 percent of shows,in the wake of a couple of posts guessing the opener/closer songs for the night. The anonymous poster saw an opportunity to vent his feelings, thinking there would be similar sentiment to buffer his strong assertion, which to a point there is.Had he not angled his words to the slant of competition between the two bands,I feel he would have received a more neutral response. It did have the result of the matter being discussed, which the band members will read,so the message has been received..lol,insular clannishness.Nice verbiage Derek.:)

Neil Young said it best: LET'S IMPEACH THE PRESIDENT! Also, what Stretchy said on our troops: They're facing serious shit every day; and all because of (1) OIL and (2) Finishing What Daddy Started in 1991! Hey, Scumbag: Why don't you send your two daughters instead?! Sorry for ragging like this, folks, but It's the Scumbag-In-Chief whose name is a four-letter word that has caused me such pain for years!

yeah perhaps, but we need 100,000 not 10,000. idiots who never wore a uniform making decisions again. again, the two largest mistakes of this war (other than having it in the first place) were 1) ignoring the army's recommendation to have 140,000 more troops than were deployed, and; 2) Paul Brenner disbanding the Iraqi army. now absolute chaos. personally I'm going to love Georgie going against even the recommended grain even further, that will just make more people mad at him and Republican Party. not only do I not have plans to watch his highness's speech tonight, I never even knew there was a speech. I'm going to be doing something much more important, bringing over and hooking up sk's klipsch speakers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320066362701&rd=1&rd=1

SC, I’m just kidding around of course, except for the Bush comments, I think you prolly meant in that post is that you’re “disappointed” rather than “sad”……….unless of course that really, truly makes you sad, in which case you may be that 1 person in America who actually would need qualudes for medical purposes as opposed to using them strictly for recreational purposes

Comet McNaught has continued to brighten as it approaches the sun and it is now the brightest comet in 30 years. For observers in the northern Hemisphere, tonight is probably the best time to see it: Go outside this evening and face the sunset. A clear view of the western horizon is essential, because the comet hangs very low. As the twilight fades to black, it should become visible to the naked eye. Observers say it's a fantastic sight through binoculars. Meanwhile, solar heating will continue to puff up the comet, causing it to brighten even more. It could become one of the brightest comets in centuries, visible even in daylit skies.

if something like that makes you sad it's time to re-pioritize your life. what makes me sad is prez bush and his murdurous regime sending our young lads to do battle in a foreign land under the guise of a war that we started supposedly b/c they had WMD, now years later we're somehow still there. children going hungry, that makes me sad, max creek fans complaining about set lists, that doesn't make me sad.

Makes me sad to see people complain about song choice. I've been seeing the Creek since 1980, but these days only manage about a show a year, just too busy to get to shows. So I'm jealous of all you lucky folks who get to see them often. When I go, I go with a clean slate and am happy to hear any song played. I sure wish I could go enough to see a particular song played multiple times.....enjoy the music while ya got it. I try to listen to a Creek show almost every day, and I'm not getting sick of very much! Peace~ SC

Bosco...I really don't have any due to being in a cast still...BUT, I do seem to have 2 jars of the extra garlic left from the last batch. Do you want those? I will be at Troy only if you do. We are still looking at a early February start up time to go into the "pickle business" full time. All depends when Sears stops doing travel with me, after that, unlimited pickles all the time.

I have been cing Max Creek 4 along time too and think they are playing some of thier best stuff now it can't help the band to let people discourage them publicly because they have lost that loving feeling or what ever the case maybe. we all have a right to our opinions on here unless it's politics right. at Eden this year we spent the second SF set in the car listening to Creek and it was one of the best times ever, more fun than the first SF set that being said I enjoy SF sometimes but it's not the same level

still there's a person behind every post. what's that saying about how a person will tell one person about a good thing and ten people about a bad? ..something like that. Worth reminding why this site is here. The community is or can be, and this one certainly should be, part of the draw. People who love a band but jump on the slightest critique.. don't help the band they love. Especially if those people hardly ever go to shows. ...ZING.

since i hit 2-3 shows a year, i am glad with whatever they play.. when you see every show, it seems like they don't mix it up.. like back with the dead.. Hell in a Bucket again.. Way to go Home again.. jeez, they played it every 3rd show.. still better ratio then a band that plays the same set every night. creek mixes it up. some tunes, they play once a year or twice, like Mama R U Ready.. but some get heavy rotation.. maybe JOhn lieks to play those tunes. maybe he likes to play the tunes he wrote and not play covers. he might be proud of thetunes he penned and likes to sing em. if you don't like a tune, go grab a brew or something. shit, back in the 90's it seemed they encored with backporch every show. no complaints from me. hahahaha. just enjoy or find someplace else to enjoy. life is too short.

yeah well, just to play devil's advocate, maybe there's a difference between attacking to defend and defending to promote.. do you wanna help the band, or chase off anyone who may feel differently? insular clannishness probably doesn't help our rep as a fanbase... just sayin'. Want more people at shows to help these guys w/kids & bills? maybe keep it on the up and up, even if you don't agree. Just a thought.

Remember when X was doing "What I like about you" and it seemed like it was played every night for the encore...Man, that song made me cringe, bad experenice with a local band doing it way to much and made hate that song. Knowing how X likes to fuck with people he will problably pull it out in Troy just cause...did I say Troy, I mean I will be at Rochester, he will probably pull that out there.

I think one reason that new songs don't come out constantly is that those guys have busy lives outside the band...I'm sure it can't be easy to raise kids, have a full-time job, a part-time band to play in, and be expected to pump out new material...songwriting is not easy(or so i'm told)..I just consider it a bonus when a gem like "Chains of life" makes it through...As for John, I think he has really tried to mix it up more in the last few years...and if you don't care for Wildside, chances are there's a Said and Done, Emerald Eyes, or Darlin' around the corner..Bfree, I can relate to what you were saying about new covers being tried, then set aside...In Troy earlier in 06', x busted out the full version of 25 or 6 to 4 which I thought rocked and had much potential, but so far it sits on the shelf...I guess I can understand someone that needs to hear new stuff....to each his own...but i'm not going anywhere anytime soon...

Just a couple of points about the song list complaint.1st When I first started seeing Creek (1978) they were the only band that played different songs every night. Most bands played the same show night after night after night. So Creek plays a few repeats SO WHAT!Also they all have children and day jobs so finding time to write new songs maybe hard at times. So to the complainer why don't you try writng a few tunes, take care of your family (if you have one),play a bunch of shows and read insulting posts on your website. Let us know how you make out ! Oh and go Strangfolk yourself
